  • The public transport in Manila can be overwhelming as a traveler. People often think it isn't very good, or easy to work out but hopefully with this video we will make it a little easier to understand. We have struggled using the public buses, jeepneys and also the metro in the past, but we are trying again! We decided we wanted to try out the local metro commuter train that runs straight through Manila
but our journey wasn't as straight forward and easy as we hoped...

I wouldn't stay outside long since I'd probably know where the nearby shopping mall would be, either a Robinson's or an SM, to cool down. That is actually Metro Manila (formally, the NCR). It appears you were mostly in Taguig (FTI complex area) at the first part and then Tutuban PNR station (in the real Manila City) later.
"Metro Manila" is the region. "Manila" is just one of many cities in it. About half of the cities here are bigger than Manila. While we do appreciate your effort braving the heat and promoting life here in PHL, please do it properly by naming your locations correctly.
15:06 Yes, I can imagine how annoying the constant honking it. But you are correct that it's to ensure the squatters living at the side of the rail will clear the path. It was much worse before because there were far more squatters there and it became regular news that someone gets run over. As the saying goes, safety precautions were first written with blood.
18:50 Having security inspection at the entrance of most (all?) buildings is perhaps among the most culture shocking for foreigners. We actually did not have those long ago. It only started ~20 years ago when Metro Manila became target of terrorists linked to the Al Qaeda (they hated us for being allied with the US). Intelligence revealed they will target populous areas like public buses, malls and movie houses and thus, security inspection was put in place. It became standard since then.

Congratulations for taking that “historic” ride. The last one for now. I love trains. You rode an old version of the old system (if you know what I mean). There is a 2-3yr old train that looks a “wee” bit prettier.
