Exactly the reason why my Prorex reel is a 8.1 to one gear ratio. You can always reel slower, but its a chore to reel a lot faster or burn retrieve if you want to get that line in with no play or take up that extra slack quickly left out there. Most fast retrieve reels still have plenty of crankin power even on a 7. 1 or 8.1 gear...I don't like slower retrieve reels, they're twice the work. I fish only for big river stripers in major current and haven't had any issues pulling them outta submerged trees or from behind boulders. And I'm a bank/shore fisherman. No boat. Another great video. Very informative. Keep up the great work.
In Europe we use heavy Braid 80-100lb for Swimmbaits, you never now what's bite, in the river's swim's a lot off huge Catfish 6-9 ft and over 250lb and they love swinnbaits too.
Those mono hand gestures are so spot on! 😂. I no longer use fluorocarbon as a leader for big baits. It’s too easy to burn it using a FG and so many other connection knots and you can’t tell. Using a short mono leader will see far less baits being cast off or broke off by a fish.
P-Line CXX is by far the best. I’ve bank flipped multiple 6-7lb bass on it and it holds up so well over time, it’s also super cheap and always in stock
My local Fort Worth Tx Cabela's doesn't even carry it. The employee working the reel counter hasn't even heard of it. I've been using it since it hit the market and used the Premium before that.
I swapped videos I've been watching from the one's made by B.A.S.S. Professional Anglers on swimbait & glidebait set-up... to yours. I TRUST YOUR OPINION MORE THAN ANY OPINION THAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER. Thanks for the win.
heavy braid. 80# and you can add a fluorocarbon leader uni to uni and direct tie 100lb fluoro. for simplicity, power pro makes all the lines anyone needs from regular PP to maxxquattro .
You should check out the savage gear 4d line through pike they make a 20 inch one and it would be neat to see a vid of you checking it out or maybe even getting one
I love the savage gear baits. I prefer the 3d over the 4d. Just caught a 5,7 and 10lb bass Saturday. The 10lber was on an 8 inch 3d line through trout. Rainbow trout color.
Bro you should try sunline flippn fluorocarbon for the slow bottom baits, has a yellow marking every 2ft or so so u can see those small ticks, but it still disappears under water plus it has less stretch than sniper, just supple with low memory and lasts longer than sniper or seaguar abrazx. Also you need to try sunline super natural mono. The most supple thinnest mono with the least amount of stretch ive tried. Comes in a clear blue and green. And even suffix pro mix is a good durable mono.
Am I too late to get a response? Well my lake had a lot of grass almost all the way to the top like 30 feet off the bank. I was using the Swaver and was getting followers like crazy on the grass edge. I got one on a 💣 out cast. But normally the action of the bait would fail because of the grass. So I can’t get a full cast in. Then I lose the followers. What bait can get the followers but also have action the whole cast? Thanks have a nice weekend or day or something 😂👍
My only issue with braid for walking topwaters is it seems to catch on the baits hooks. Now I'm talking a spook or sexy dawg so that may be different than big magnum baits. Going to experiment with a mono to braid leader on them though. Great video as always
@@stevenversace2720 I tried that and didn't like it and it defeats the point of the strength of the braid. I did learn of a solution though: 4-5 bobber stops on the braid right in front of the knot will keep it off the hooks
@texoma_outdoors i should have mentioned, that fix for the problem is best done with thick to very thick mono (in terms of bass fishing) and with a loop knot to connect to the bait.
Great info. You are totally right about straight monofilament and big topwaters. I tried fishing a mega dog on 25lb mono and the action just wasn't there. Switched up to braid to leader and the difference was might and day. Keep up the good work.
One bad thing about braid and big baits is the braid will wrap around itself on retrieve and on drag then mid cast it suddenly stops and your 250 or whatever custom bait your using is gone unless it f;oats and not at night paid my dues to the ferry man with braid on big baits can be scary great info though love the vids Cheers!! :))
EZPZ fishing braid to leader can be, I just hate how braid can dig into the spool and cause some nasty backlashes or snaps. For the most part, it’s straight mono or copoly for something general
Hey I have another question for you. How many consecutive days can/would you let a spool of fluorocarbon sit on a reel unused before you respool or before it starts to lose its strength? I know in one of your videos you said you respool every 3-5 trips or so but are those 3-5 trips in 3-5 consecutive days or are the separated a little more?
I dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Melvin Reuben I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Your going to lose a lot of baits. Matt Allen uses smaller diameter line, so I can see how it works out, but most guys aren't going to follow his rig set up to those little details. He also prefers the power handle on the Tranx, which can move on you during casting and engage the reel breaking off a bait. You have to hold the handle to cast and most guys hate that. Guy's fishing the bacca burrito from the bank prefer braid w/no leader unless the water is clear.
I know I’m a little late to the video so hopefully you respond. But I remember a while back in the 250 video with manchee you liked fishing it on copoly. Did something happen that changed your mind or is copoly still a good choice?
Prob the best all all around like IMO is izorline xxx 20lb. You can throw softbaits and hardbaits up to around 8oz. Only thing it is bad at is walking style baits
In Germany I prefer to fish for capitals Silurus Glanis ("Catfish") that regularly exceed 140 pounds. I am desperately looking for a rod that can take such tremendous loads and cast baits around 10oz with ease. Do you trust the Megabass "King of Baccarat" to do this or do you know a rod that is perhaps better suited? Best regards, Normen 🤙
Thank you this was helpful. I'm going mono with a musky rod and a Cardiff. Would there be an advantage to running copolymer since it is basically a more clear version of mono?
9thchild no huge difference in my opinion, but for muskie, I know a lot of guys run straight braid to a 80-100lb flouro leader to the bait because of the teeth and scale of the fish

Mr. Redfin haha yeah, those giant wels definitely deserve the braid hahaha
I whuld love to catch a wels catfish wish the whuld bring em here but they probably whuld kill off some native species

I’m actually obsessed with Berkley Big Game. 😂🤙🏽 It’s been great for me! And so affordable! 🤷🏻♂️😁
I use big game for almost everything and it never disappoints.

Great vid. I’m gonna say fishing a Hudd on mono is a great way to have your heart broken. I’d personally never do it under any circumstances.

I can't find a subline brand line???
@@seatee4770 thats ny fat thumb and Samsungs auto corrects fault...... SUNLINE FLIPPIN FC.
I do need to try there natural mono! Heard it’s really good as well! I’ll have to try out the other styles than soon!
Thanks, just getting started so i will start w mono.
Jim min Yeah, you can’t go wrong with good plain mono to start with!

Do you tie a loop knot for ur big topwater? Helps a lot with action
Hudson Fishin I actually don’t, I tie to a snap on the bait for the most part
Your videos are awesome. I just started to get into swimbait fishing. All this information is great 👍

Lazy JC Ranch I’ve had problems with smaller baits as well but with the bigger heavy topwaters, I never really run into that issue!
@@crazybassfisher good to know. Again I always enjoy the content
use a piece of mono that is twice the length of the bait and you won't have that issue anymore

What line should I use when there is big pike
You gota try Braid to FC100 leader it’s fantastic 👌
Tyler Reagan I’ll have to try it out for my topwater than!
The System leader line is the best of both worlds. Florocarbon with stretch but doesn't retain memory:)
Great info. You are totally right about straight monofilament and big topwaters. I tried fishing a mega dog on 25lb mono and the action just wasn't there. Switched up to braid to leader and the difference was might and day. Keep up the good work.
BassBound TV It’s crazy how just line can affect in such a big way these baits!
Do you ever fish big swim baits at Roosevelt Lake
Jeffrey, is this still accurate for glides?
What are your thoughts on izor been throwing it for a few months love it so far
brandon sherrell Izor XXX is my favorite copoly, super strong and fairly thin!
@@crazybassfisher right on ive been using it for most my stuff some straight some braid to leader

Any decent combos for beginners
I got a Cardiff 300a and a Daiwa dx Swimbait in extra heavy and 25pound mono and it’s been amazing
CODiSS • I have the same set up but throw braid to leader also very happy.
Tyler Reagan awesome dude 🎣🎣🎣
What the guys above said is a great start, the Dobyns fury line with a Cardiff or lexa 300 is also a great route to go!
Solid video, sound info 👌
Britanie Rodriguez Thanks for watching!🙏
Just the info I needed! Thanks!
Steve Fisher Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Do you use shock leaders ?
Do you have opinions on braided main line to a longer flouro or mono leader (6-12 ft) depending on what you're fishing and the way you're fishing it?
Logan Sherman you can definitely do straight braid to a 3-5ft leader and do just fine on a lot of different applications!
great info Geoffrey
thank you
I live in Phoenix I would love to fish with you sometime
If you had to choose, would you go with mono or p-line?
What’s a general line?
I always thought braid to leader was the best
EZPZ fishing braid to leader can be, I just hate how braid can dig into the spool and cause some nasty backlashes or snaps. For the most part, it’s straight mono or copoly for something general
Weren't you big into Izorline copoly for a minute?
Ian Kehler I still am actually. It’s the copoly that I’m using right now actually. The hook up just didn’t have any to show for in this video haha

@Shane Orion No problem xD
Would Seaguar InvizX fluorocarbon be good for big glide baits (20 lb), small soft swimbaits (20 lb), and big soft swimbaits (25 lb)???
Can you even buy Battle Shad/ Citizens anymore?
But I feel like also should have mentioned that you can use braid 2 Leader for everything just like the tactical guys do.
