    In this video, we bring home two 2024 Honda Motocompactos that we bought at Love Honda in Homosassa, Florida. We start by touring the showroom at Love Honda, and then Joe, the Parts Manager at Love Honda helps us get our two Motocompactos in the back of our Van.
    Next, we unbox and unfold the first one, and make a test ride in the parking lot at Love Honda. Then we make a longer test ride, past Love Power Equipment and on to Love Motorsports. At Love Motorsports, Brian, Charlie, and Patrick take turns riding the Motocompacto. Then we continue our longer test ride and return to Love Honda and load up the van.
    On the way home, we stop off at The WrapPros to have them design and install a vehicle wrap on the Motocompacto. Please leave a comment with your guess as to the wrap. Best guesses win prizes.
    When we get home, we unbox and unfold the second Motocompacto, have lunch, and then show the three accessories we have, as well as show all of the Motocompato accessories available at your Honda dealer.

      Ronnie, thanks.. You can sort of get an idea of the ride in the section of the video where I ride on smooth asphalt. Smooth as silk, and fast. However, on a concrete sidewalk, you feel every expansion joint in the sidewalk. It is impossible to ride on a lawn, even one that is well manicured. Same for a dirt or gravel road.. no luck on them. The wheels are solid rubber and there is no suspension. However, on a smooth surface, the grip is amazingly good, and you can lean over and take turns really quickly.

I spent a full day yesterday changing phones and setting up the new phone so I could use the Android Motocompato app, only to find out that the app doesn't report battery charge, and so since it thinks your battery is dead, the navigation always tells you that you can't get there.. pretty frustrating.

My first riding video will be a ride to Lake Beverly and back... about 8 miles round trip, with the return mostly up a slight hill so it will be a good test. There are not many hills around where I live, but Lake Beverly is in a low spot.

      Tim, Thanks for the kind words. I wonder the same thing and also if trains would allow them on the train. To be effective for commuting, there would have to be a sidewalk between the train station and your place of work. Some jurisdictions may allow them on sidewalks and bike lanes, and I imagine some would not. I also wonder if an airline would let you carry on the battery and check the Motocomposto as luggage. I think it will take some time until the rules of use evolve.

      @@Vintage_Garage I live in Minnesota and I have a Segway-Ninebot E45 electric kick scooter I ride to work when the weather is favorable. Here vehicles like that are legally considered PEVs (Personal Electric Vehicles) and can legally go anywhere bicycles can go, including sidewalks and bike paths.
      As for the Motocompacto, I'm starting to lean towards getting one. All the motorcycles I've ever owned have been Hondas; over the years I've had a 1982 Honda CB400-T, a 1987 NQ50 Spree scooter and a 1975 CL360 Scrambler (unfortunately I don't own any of them anymore).

    • @Vintage_Garage
      @Vintage_Garage  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@fixman88 Thanks for watching and your comment. I think the rules on where they can operated will evolve over the next couple of years, and will differ by state, and also possibly by city. Up up until last year, to operate an electric scooter on a street in Florida, it had to have pedals, but last year, the legislature passed new rules in response to lobbying by a company wanting to operate rental scooters in St. Petersburg. Electric scooters no longer needed pedals, as long as they had a seat under the new rules. But even that new law is still a bit vague and the implication is that some Florida localities may choose to make up their own rules. Until am told otherwise by the Sherriff, I operate the Motocompacto on the sidewalk, in a bike lane, or on a street with a 30 mph or less speed limit. Being able to operate on a street without a bike lane really opens up a lot of useable territory.

    • @fixman88
      @fixman88 8 месяцев назад

      @@Vintage_Garage Thanks for the reply. In Minnesota if I remember correctly you can take a bike or PEV on any road that isn't Limited Access (meaning one that has Exits like a freeway or Interstate highway). I stick to sidewalks, bike paths or side streets; if I need to go further afield I take my car. I have taken my Segway-Ninebot E45 from my apartment in Saint Cloud all the way through Sauk Rapids to Sartell and back a couple of times, that's a pretty good distance.

    • @Vintage_Garage

      @@fixman88 Thanks for watching and your comment. I think the rules are evolving, and each State and locality may end up with different rules. Up until the Florida legislature passed a new law this year, an electric scooter had to have pedals to be operated on the street here. You didn't need a drivers license or registration. The new rule allows for electric scooters with or without pedals as long as they have a seat. They now can go anywhere a bicycle can go with no license and no registration, but there is fine print in the legislation that says that localities may choose to make up their own rules;

      Dan, Thanks for watching and your kind words. I hope you are buying it with plans to use it as it is intended, that is for the last mile or two of your daily commute to save you from walking. If you are buying it as an electric bicycle and don't plan to ever fold it up, you will be disappointed by the rough ride on rough pavement or on sidewalks. To get an idea of the ride, push a shopping cart from the grocery store to your car on a rough parking lot. The Motocompacto is fast and smooth as silk on a smooth, newly paved path or road, and is bone rattling on rough pavement. The plastic sides rattle badly against the aluminum frame on every bump as well. I hope my long rides on my follow-up videos illustrate that for you. RUclips analytics says most people who watch my videos only watch for an average of about 4 minutes, so they miss the riding segments at the end.
      I am not an iPhone user and am still struggling trying to set up a cheap used Android phone with the Motocompacto App, so I still don't know what the app will do. I think the odometer will be in the app, as well as other things based on the screen prints I have seen. The cheapest phone that I think will run the Motocompacto App is the Pixel 4, but the used one I bought on eBay was DOA. Getting another one this week and I should know in a week or two if it will run the app.. Apparently, you need Android 13 to even download the app on an Android device.

The unagi is a rough ride on unlock mode at 21mph. I wonder if Honda used standard wheel size. The air filled tires ride much better on the gotrax apex. I can ride on packed gravel and hard grass. Thanx again for all the posts and videos.

      @@DanWolk-zo5kf I don't' see very well, but both tires and their wheels are very different. The rear tire looks to have the profile of a regular tire, and if I read it right, it says 200*50 on the side of it. It looks like a solid scooter tire, with no place for a valve stem in the wheel. The front tire is a very low profile. The front tire says 8 x 1.5Z on the side if I read it right. It is hard as a brick and the wheel has only a slightly smaller diameter than the tire. I think legality depends on your state, and even your locality within your state. Because it has a seat, it is street legal in most places in Florida as I understand it. It can go anywhere a bicycle can go. Without a seat, you can't take a stand up scooter on the street here, although some do. I think the rules will continue to evolve. The first time a kid rides one down the hallway on a cruise ship at 15 mph, I expect that they will be banned from cruise ships... LOL

The Motocompactos are sold by Honda car dealers here, not by Honda motorcycle dealers. When Honda announced the Motocompacto two months ago, I immediately went to my local Honda car dealer and said I wanted one. They had never heard of the Motocompacto, so I showed them the literature from Honda that I had printed. Fortunately, they put an order for some that very day, and so they were one of the first Honda dealers to get some. They come five to a shipment, so I was able to get a pair of them.

      Matt, Thanks for watching and your guess. As first guesser you will get a prize with free shipping to the UK. As it turns out, I think the large cloth bags I stenciled as side bags will probably be too large for a Motocompacto side bag. I think they will drag on the ground, so I am thinking the large bags might be good as prizes for people who don't plan to get a Motocompacto but could use a Honda Wing shopping bag. Once I post the reveal video in a few days, I'll announce the winners and get shipping details, but for now, just stand by, as you will be receiving one.
      I also didn't realize how much storage capacity the Motocompacto has by default. When it is unfolded, I can carry my fishing tackle, camera tripod, lunch, snacks and two cans of Diet Pepsi in the space where the seat and handlebars store. Dick, Thanks for watching, your comment and kind words, much appreciated. The evidence so far indicates that Honda is shipping them out in batches of five, and I imagine that all USA Honda Car dealers will get a least five and then more once everyone has five. The dealers also get a display stand for their showrooms with charging ports built into the display. I am 76, so I hear you on that. I would have a CRF300L, but I am a bit short for it now at my age. The price for a Motocompacto is $995 US or $999 US, plus state tax, which in my county is 6%.
      I put a link in the description box for people who want to order online instead of their local dealer. Love Honda has already sold their first batch of five. Please go to the link below to a dealer in Rhode Island and ask them if they ship to Canada. They are all set up for online ordering:
      buymotocompacto.com/
      I forgot to answer your camping question, so I went back and edited this reply. A Motocompacto would only be good for camping if your campsite has a smooth paved road between your camp and the camp store, and the store is no more than 4 miles away. It would not be able to travel a dirt or gravel road, and will not work on grass, even it the grass is well maintained.

    Why does it sound like a bucket of bolts going over every little crack and bump on the road? Doesn’t sound at all quality. Anyone figure out what exactly is rattling and how to secure those things better? Very poor engineering.

    • @Vintage_Garage
      @Vintage_Garage  7 месяцев назад

      @ph5548, Thanks for watching and your comment, much appreciated. The rattle is worse in person, than what you hear in the video. In the follow-up videos, I take each of the two Motocompactos on longer rides around the neighborhood, after picking them up from the wrap shop. In both of those videos, I ride them on sidewalks as well as on rough roads, and smooth bike lanes. Riding them on sidewalks is bone jarring, as the solid wheels and no suspension makes the ride similar to sitting in a grocery cart while someone pushes you down the sidewalk. In this video, there is a smooth, newly paved asphalt road between Love Honda and Love Power Equipment. On that stretch, the ride is smooth and fast. Same for the newly paved asphalt bike lanes in the follow-up videos. The rattle is caused by the plastic sides rattling against the frame of the Motocompacto. You can duplicate the rattle by simply tapping the side of the Motocompacto lightly with your hand, so the rattle is easy to identify. Short of taking the Motocompacto apart and figuring out how to install foam between the side panels and the frame, the rattle is persistent.
