    Thank you for posting. Great patience in pursuing the cause of failure. After watching, I honestly began to wonder if Honda might offer a warranty extension on the machine. Mine is actually in the shop for a non-electric related repair. Hoping to get it back this week.

      Jo, The key now is to see if another people experience battery failure and it that causes Honda techs to gain more knowledge in the Motocompacto. Honda Customer Assistance will just refer you to your dealer. I can't imaging the dealer would want to spend hours fixing a Motocompacto. All I hear from Honda Customer Assistance for updates to the Motocompacto App is a polite "As far as we know, there are no updates coming soon". I am hoping that fixing the battery problem will be as simple as changing the battery.

      @@Vintage_Garage Hope it is indeed just a defective battery. Fingers crossed

    You were doing some major surgery in the garage. I'm glad you found the problem. Excellent video, ride safe Vaughn.

      Gus, thanks for watching and your comment. As far as I know, I am still the only person who has had battery failure in a Motocompacto, so I don't think it will end up to be a common problem.

      I was at my local Honda store yesterday. The yellow 2024 Trail 125 is very nice. 👍

      @@gustwowheeling7337 Gus, as far as I know, none have arrived at any Florida dealer yet. I haven't seen one in person. When Honda of Melbourne gets in their first batch, then mine will come in to Love Honda about three weeks after that if the past is an indication of the future.

      @gustwowheeling7337 yeah I saw the photos of the yellow on Hondas website and it really never sold me. Thought it looked pretty boring, but in person it actually looks really nice.

    How amazing was that? Never thought the guts of the battery would look anything like that. I wonder if vibration could have played a role in the failure? Just gotta say, taking all the plastics off was reminiscent of what it took to change a simple air filter on some of my Hondas!! You are fast becoming an Master Tech on this machine!😎

      Tim, I do not know if vibration would be a factor. It might take more failures from others to get the answer. As far as I know, I am the first to have a Motocompacto battery failure by simply riding it. I watched the video several times, and the Motocompacto is shutting down as it should with the dashboard lit, and then the dashboard goes out when the Self Control Protector(SCP) blows. If you look at the dashboard lights, the Motocompacto almost stops normally, and just at the very end, when the Motocompacto is almost stopped, the dashboard goes off. If you follow the discussion in endless-sphere, there is a link to the part:
      www.dexerials.jp/en/products/surface-mounted-type-fuse/sfk0630.html
      That page is of some help, but the answer takes more experience and knowledge than my 50 year old Physics degree can provide. I think either the battery dropped below the 5% charge minimum, or the battery temp got too high, but there are other reasons possible too. I think something in the Battery Management System (BMS) decided to blow the SCP, perhaps as a safety measure. I simply do not know. Either the problem is rare, or it will happen to others, and if it happens to others, we will learn the cause.

      @Jayson1940D14. Thanks for watching and your idea. I'll think about it. The closest I came was the video "Riding 19 Small Honda in 19 minutes". Please look for that on RUclips. I made it a couple of years ago, and have more Hondas now, so I should remake it.. LOL.

    Just read the forum and watched your video, hopefully this is not a common problem on these as you haven't really done anything in particular to cause this issue. I'm guessing due to the nature of the e-scooter/e-bike community this will eventually be reversed engineered to take different batteries than the ones you're saying are backordered. It was still nice to see a teardown to see how these things work.

      Chad, Thanks for watching and your kind words. As far as I know, battery failure is not a common problem. I haven't heard of any others yet. We'll just have to wait a while to be sure. It will take a while for the Honda car dealers to get up to spec on how to fix a Motocompacto. If there starts to get to be battery failures, they will learn about it. Right now, I don't think there are any other reports. I think you are right that there will be a number of guys who try to come up with cheaper batteries, and parallel battery systems as well.

    I'm curious if the terrible suspension and less than perfect road conditions had anything to do with the failure.

    • @Vintage_Garage
      @Vintage_Garage  6 месяцев назад

      @BunglowBill. Thanks for watching and your comment. I do not know and we probably will never know unless someone else has the failure. So far, I haven't heard of any other failures. The ride on a rough road is much smoother than a sidewalk, so I don't think that is it. Honda expected it to be ridden on sidewalks. Also, the terrible suspension is the same in all of them and is the way Honda designed it, so I think that isn't it either. Please read the discussion on endless sphere referenced in the description field if you haven't already. I think the only way to figure out what happened is if more failures occur and point to a pattern.

    ok im donright shocked at how little of that bike is the battery. 😂😂

    • @Vintage_Garage
      @Vintage_Garage  6 месяцев назад

      Logon, the size of the battery didn't shock me, as Honda was trying to build to a lightweight luggable suitcase. What is shocking is that the battery blew up on a simple range test, and batteries are back ordered indefinably, maybe forever.
