I am curious as to what the wife thought when she walked up with you I. The swing with your helmet on. That’s the real story here!! Congratulations for surviving and not damaging the truck. That’s entertainment.

So does your wife just look at all of these projects, gadgets and builds and say “what in the world are you doing now?”. “You are building it again?”. :). Cool project and your wife is a saint. 😊

Brian, What if you were able to store the tent in the raised position and not lower it to be handled again and stored. You do not seem to have much overhead space, so it may need to be located on the left side of your garage where you currently store bikes etc. Best to install some sort of locking system so there's not constant pressure on the lift cables.
Hey, Remember to never make the wife mad, then stand behind the truck to lift the tent. You did say you weigh about as much as the tent, so lifting a body in the truck bed is possible... Ha!

I will store it on its side probably on casters so I can move it around👍🏻

That was priceless ! "you're worried about your truck. What about me ?" Hahaha, your wife is such a good sport.
I'd probably wrap a heavy piece of carboard with a harbor freight furniture moving pad, and throw it on the roof of the truck draped down over the rear glass.

You could mount the winch somewhere else and use pulleys to redirect if you needed more clearance. You could also make a stop coming down from the ceiling that you could just raise the tent to and hold it up there along with adding a couple of safety straps as a backup.

Thanks , just ordered one of these and I'm gonna stick it in the attic of my garage. I didn't wanna keep my tent on the car and this make it easy.

Ok, i know you where nervous but!! That was pretty comical. Your wife made a good comment when she was worried about it hitting her in the face and you were worried about the truck. Have some nice cables made to length, i would recommend a shackle but you have no room for one. You could also put a pool noodle or something similar on the front of the tent to prevent it from hitting your truck. I'm glad your experiment went as planned and nothing bad happened. Until the next video, have a great one ****

From South Africa. Hi Brian, My objective when re-configuring and setting up my Landy was to eliminate pre-departure packing and prep, not because I'm clever, but rather because I'm an idiot and always forget stuff.
So it stays packed.... idea is food / water , turn key go....

  • @eddeetaylor

I would make some type of cart for it with castors. Not sure if these can be stored vertical or not. But if they can, make like a cart that they use at Home Depot and put it on its side and move it to where ever you want to store it.

Great set up ,I put my Hoyt’s in the attic and had the cable come out a ring I put in , it looks like you don’t have any attic space judging by that big beam you got running across your garage ,any way looks like it worked very well

You need to design a bracket system to store the tent up suspended in the ceiling.

Looks like the hoist will do the trick. As far as stowing it when it's off the truck, I'd find an open space along one of the garage walls, and stand it up on edge (with some sort of protection between it and the concrete floor), and lash/cam strap it to the wall using a couple of lag bolt eyes (one on each side screwed into studs). Would also have a couple of inexpensive Harbor Freight 4-wheeled furniture dollys handy to lay it on when moving it to the hoisting/lowering position, and back to the stowage location. Just my 2 cents worth. 😉

Yeah. I’m going to build some small carts with casters to nest the tent in sideways to push up against a wall👍🏻

Why don't you make short saw horses on wheels. And have wheels on the saw horses so you can roll it around. But use your wooden frame you made to hold the saw horses in place and under the tent. Just a thought.

How long is the cable on the lift? You could mount it over by the wall and run your cable through a pulley where it’s mounted now. That would give you more height if needed. Just an idea. Great work though. Keep the vids coming. BTW did you give the Bluetti away? I missed it.

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  4 месяца назад +1

That is an option Kris, and I actually already have a winch mounted on my floor on the other side of the garage I used when I had a small camper to pull it into the garage👍🏻 I did announce the winner, it’s a pinned comment on the video

You will be fine ✅ The straps can be rebalanced after your lift. Do you have insurance on your wife. All set. 😊
Mark each straps or cable to there lift position.

Cool! I was envisioning a come along for some reason. Is there a way to store it sideways or will it get warped? I've seen people make hanging racks for their Jeep tops and canoes, so something like that is a possible option.

Are your joist engineer joist (I joist) or solid lumber. I have the same idea as you but I'm told I joists don't hold that much weight and can be dangerous.

I believe he doesn't want his equipment that he hauls in his bed exposed to the weather elements. I think the next one he'll have some sort of bed cover. I'm not sure if it's just that and a cover that's just the height of the bed. Or something elevated like a shell. I'm not a expert I use 1st generation Honda CRV's for camping.
