    For years I've been trundling out the harbor watching the mullet topping the surface and never given it a go myself - but this year you've convinced me! Thanks for the great video!

    Nice I’ll be trying the new set up, I used the previous video setup a couple of days ago and had a bass first cast 😂
    I did use live common lug tho and not rag worm.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  6 месяцев назад

      Well that's a result, even if not the intended target. Interesting to hear you used lug. I've not tried that. Did the worm hold together ok after a few casts?

    • @thomassmith8806

      @@christchurchanglingcentre5428 the worm lasted a few casts I was changing them quite often. When a bass had hit it poor mr lugworm was a bit worse for wear. However ended up with a few schoolies this way. I will be trying ragworm next as I have never caught a mullet.

  • @pensacolafishin

    This is exactly what I was looking for. Here in the Florida panhandle I grew up fishing mullet setting gil nets then throwing cast nets never by rod or reel. Any mullet every hooked were rare or foul hooked. I wonder if these rigs setup would work here in the gulf.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  5 месяцев назад

      Do you know what type of mullet you get? We use this method for a species we call thin lipped mullet (Chelon ramada). I'm sure if you get the same species, you catch on this method. It's loads of fun.

    • @pensacolafishin
      @pensacolafishin 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@christchurchanglingcentre5428 Striped mullet some called it a grey mullet, roughly the same sizes as the ones y'all are catching. We use them for everything really, live bait, cut bait, crab trap bait, ones with size we fillet and eat.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  5 месяцев назад

      I always find it odd we don't value mullet in the UK the same way. We only really fish for them for sport, and most people don't even do that. We never use them as bait, despite everywhere I've travelled to using them regularly as bait.
      You'll have to let me know how you get on spinning for them.

    Another little mod to think about is using a titanium wire instead of fluoro, I’ve tried a low breaking strain (about 6lb I think) that I use for perch fishing. Small diameter but more rigid than fluoro so fewer tangles

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  6 месяцев назад +1

      I tried this last year, it worked brilliantly in theory, but I had the wire damage the mouth of a fish. I appreciate this could have been a one off, but it was enough to put me off.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428

      Well, this is a strange one. I will say no, because the hundreds of hours I've put into mullet spinning over the years I've not caught a single thick. However, I am reliably informed, and by good anglers, that they do catch thicks on the spinner in certain parts of the UK.

    • @christchurchanglingcentre5428
      @christchurchanglingcentre5428  4 месяца назад

      Yes. It's rated 3-15g, so suitable for anything that involves chucking lures in that bracket really. I've used it for chub and perch fishing on the river. I've yet to chuck light jigs for mackerel, but I bet it would be a joy.
