Hi Dina. A tip just in case no one else has mentioned it, if you would like your garlic bulbs to grow bigger, cut off the scape (the flower) before it gets too big so it puts the energy into growing the bulb. Or alternatively, cut the scape off before it opens and use it in a stir fry or roast for flavour and fibre. I know you're a veggo, I'm a omnivore, but I am also a garlic fiend. As far as I'm concerned, you can never have too much garlic. I sometimes peel a dozen or so cloves and lightly and quickly deep fry in a mix of olive oil and butter. Don't know if you consume dairy or not, otherwise just use olive oil, bit not too hot.

Hey that’s an awesome tip I never knew! Thank YOU!

@@jeffchristianson-ziebell7727 , you're welcome. It's very similar to any fruiting plant or tree, where the similarity with fruit trees and bushes that live for years on end being that with fruit trees you pick the fruit off the trees in the first few years or so so the energy goes back into growing the plant (or with matured fruit trees you thin the fruit numbers down to get better fruit). Think of removing the scape as being the same as removing fruit from a tree.

garlic will store longer if you pull it when the bottom 2-3 leaves are brown n crispy. each leaf represents a layer on outside of bulb and when the leaves die so does the protective papery covering start to decompose, so for best storage harvest a little earlier would be my sugestion but your garlic definitaly looks great and im sure tastes wonderful.

My garlic harvest went weird. It died back pretty early, and the papery cover never really developed. But the bulbs were massive, with so many cloves! It is all cured, and we’ve been tapping into our stores for cooking and fresh eating. I put beans and peas on my arch trellis that my son and I built, and we got our first harvest yesterday. Blackeye, and Iron and Clay peas are bearing prolifically. Looks like your tomatoes are a week or two ahead of mine. Your beefsteaks look GORGEOUS! I can almost taste the tomato sandwiches already!

@@DinaJoy so if I use the organic from the store, I just pull it apart and plant it the same? Cool... thanks Dina

That is what I did. I think they may have undergone cold storage before getting to the store, so when I planted them in the fall, they thought they were supposed to grow on through what they thought was spring. So, they got hit with another cold period in our winter, and ai think they split up a second time. The result was a LOT of cloves in the bulb, a huge bulb, and no papery covering over the cloves. The harvest was also pretty early. It didn’t affect the taste, and so far they have done just fine in storage. I wonder if they were originally grown in South America, and were confused by the opposite seasons.

I've planted from organic garlic in the store in the past. I actually just ordered a new to me variety from amazon last month, and got it and they were excellent quality, I'm going to plant them this fall. Usually I just save some from the previous year's harvest to replant unless i want to try a new variety.

I definitely noticed the hair cut. It looks good. And I'm the same. I use A LOT of garlic, way more than the average person lol. I'm doubling my garlic planting this fall.
