You forgot to talk about what the other guilds do in the world. The Golgari farm all the food, the Izzet keep up plumbing and power, the Simic are the doctors of the plane, the Rakdos are miners etc.

If your Paladin swears the Oath of the Ancients or the Oath of Redemption, she should probably go Selesnya Conclave. If your Paladin swears to the oath of the crown, go Azorius Senate. A Paladin who goes by the Oath of Vengeance is probably a fit for the Boros Legion.
to be fair, each guild is a fusion of two of the five colors of mana, and green mana is associated with forests and nature (and also strength, endurance, and social darwinism)
In my ravnica campaign the main villain is an ancient vampire who woke up and said "what the hell happened while I was asleep" then he sees what the guilds are like he decided to take over the world (of course) because he sees corrupt organizations so my players are torn between keeping the status quo or join a vampire that isn't that bad.

The art of magic the gathering; Ravnica coffee table art book is also a great source of images and lore for anyone running a Ravnica D&D game who doesn't want to buy a bunch of cards.

The Selesnya worship Mat'Selesnya. The Izzet obey Niv-Mizzet, and the Azorious were founded by Azor. Why is Selesnya the only one you dunk on for their naming? For clarity, the dryads aren't Mat'Selesnya, they merely speak for it. They're Mat's middle-management.
Niv mizzet and azor are fantasy sounding names and the guild names are variations on them that sound cool. Mat'selesyna is just a regular ass name (matt) and them the guild name. Like itd be if the parun of the azorious was jon'azorious Thats why its funny to me

magic lore is pretty deep cause they have an entire multiverse to work with you may also want to read about plane like Dominaria (center of the multiverse and every fantasy element ever is here), Innistrad (gothic horror the plane), Kaladesh (india during a steampunk revolution) or Tarkir (lot of lore lots of dragons)

Depending on which angle you view the Simic from, you can almost see a potential mutual understanding between them and Yawgmoth(specifically pre-Phyrexia Yawgmoth). Just an interesting thought
Explanations about why the cult of Rakdos is allowed. Way back pre-guilds Rakdos the demon went on huge murder rampages, so he was given a guild on the condition he stopped. Now he mostly watches his guild murder people in fun and exciting ways instead.

I loved this video! If you really want to understand the Golgari and the Rakdos, just listen to Act 3 of Dolls over and over and over until it makes sense. Act 2 would help you understand the Orzhov and Act 4 is the Azorius vision...
The Cult of Rakdos is a release value on the pressures and dehumanizing hierarchies of the city of guilds. We're talking about a city bigger and more expansive then a hive city in 40k, with the same kind of top-down power structure that leaves most inhabitants of the plane with little choice but ot pledge themselves to a guild just to survive. You needs something akin to Rakods as a way of lifting taboos and letting off steam on a collective scale. But like all the other guilds they take their concept way too far and basically become the purge.

It added a bunch of stuff but it also as added things like getting free spells and magic items by simply joining a Guild, among other things. And it Adventure's Leauge Legal as well. I dont play with these rules though.
So bare with me a sec as I tend to explain more then needed (I just get excited haha). Anyway so before I met the fiancé never played D&D I very much heard of it( it’s fan base seems so awesome and fun) then boom here I am buying new books for us playing in a few different campaigns and absolutely love it. It’s kool cause we’re in a family campaign run by her brother so that’s fun and funny. Anyway on to the point of this video, recently bought the Ravnica book. Having just skimmed through it (even if we never played a campaign for this) thought it would be awesome to basically join one of these guilds rise to power/ranks and like overthrow it and be a massive traitor. Also if possible try and overthrow/rule the whole district 10 city and be a massive dictator haha. This game is so awesome feels like there is literally endless possibilities.
