Yeah, agree with you.. MHW and MHWI are my only introduction to the series. I must say, the story was very lackluster. And the dragging cutscenes being unskippable can make coop a bit of a nightmare. Either way I love the game, the progression feels rewarding for the time required. Lot's of monster variety and weapon variety as well keeps you busy. Even catching some of the rare wildlife as pets to show off in your home. Beautiful looking game with a lot of content!
While I do love world the weapon variety is actually the worst in the series by FAR you should really give some of the other games a visit but note that world and rise added a ton of quality of life improvements and made the world itself much more fleshed out
yeah I'll just say what someone else in a video said more or less: "The game is grindy, but the grind itself is actually fun." Every land doesn't feel like it was catered to arena style boss fights, they all feel unique, alive, and flexible. every monster has a unique way of fighting and how to respond to you hiding. most will try to sniff you out but occasionally others will run and not take their chances. the thrill of having to learn and research these creatures made finding them even funner as you could learn their weaknesses and then prove it in the field. tracking them down, despite people complaining about it taking too long, makes a ton of sense. you are in their turf, you do not know the lands anywhere nearly as well as they do. the pacing is also slow, but fair, low rank expeditions have less monsters overall cause the high rank ones would eat a new player up for breakfast and possibly make them quit for good from raging. I could go on about how well I think MHW is. I legit did not ever want to play a MH game cause I thought it was a terrible series and hated how it looked and the way it seemed to play. World defied all that in the best possible ways and I'm now obsessed with the game.
Story has always sucked in MH, closest they came to a good story was 4 and it was still nothing special at all. Some games like GU they didn’t even bother pretending it had a story lol

@Dusty-No-Life And not only this. Let's not forget World is a PS4 title and, aside of load times and FPS, It looks the same in PS5. To counter some of your points about rise, 1. We know we’re the monsters are thanks to our owls if I remember correctly and 2. The concept of hot and cold drinks never made sense. I love that you references us not feeling anything standing next to lava as if a cup of ice water is gonna change that😂

Rise is the second mh game that I've played (the first being world). As for now, it's my favourite mh game (well, I haven't played a lot) because that made be give a second chance to the series. World was too big for me, and the monsters were taking a long time to be beaten, while a kinda of chaotic environment was created for me. I didn't know what to do, and the game wasn't beginner friendly. I stopped playing the game, and had the intention to never play another mh game. But then, rise came out. Rise is a more relaxing experience, a more controlled environment. It was actually manageable for a beginner like me
wow we had similar experiences. when you feel like you’re done with rise, definitely go back to complete world and try out ice borne, it’s really good imo
The issue is that it doesn't feel like a monster hunter game. I'm glad new players like the speed and accessibility but it is a bit of a turn off to their core, existing fan base who came to love the series for it's slower, more difficult gameplay with longer fights.
@@Chris-ls1ub I didn't want to struggle. I just wanted to relax with fighting some monsters. If I want struggle I will play fromsoft games. Plus, it's not only the "struggle", I also should hunt the monster in a giant map, finding its footprints and so on. I have a limited free time, I can't waste 5 hours for a hunt
My favorite thing about Tri is the Ceadus fight. The theme compared with the fact that you fight him in the ruins of cities he's destroyed just fills you with this "Oh shit, we're next" and like you're the last hope for Moga Village. Monster Hunter is never direct with their writing, but if you read between the lines, god DAMN is it juicy
MHF2 was my first MH and I feel like the IB hate, while warranted in some ways (clutch claw lmao), completely disregards the massive scale the game was brought to. No loading between areas, turf wars, the sieges, sos flares, the environments (except AF), Fatalis etc. This was a good af video, but idk. As a lifetime hunter myself, I find the bashing of IB among my fellow old hunters crazy. That game (on PC) was a gift.
I don’t hate any monster hunter game I think all are amazing I have countless hours in MWIB and it did bring in good addition to the series. This list was more of I think these games are better than that one but they’re all good.
I actually liked rise because of the fast pace it has. When you work you don’t have enough time to appreciate all of the different mechanics MHW has, so it was a breath of fresh air.
@dds4585 I second that! World's co-op needing to watch cutscenes before your friends could join felt tedious. Also, there's only so many times I can put up with the handlers bullshit and hear "HEY PARTNER" before I want to deck her lights out. Honestly if I had a dollar for everytime she's almost gotten herself killed I could buy myself lunch.
As someone who started with Tri, I’m completely unbiased towards the game. That being said it is a masterpiece, I love underwater combat, I loved the maps/monsters, I love Moga village and I miss the fact that it had split screen for arena quests. Ultimate took it and pushed it to the up most extreme, ate the shit outta that game on Wii U. In all seriousness monster hunter is an amazing series and I’m lucky to have grown up with it. All the games are great, even rise I can find fun in.
Monster Hunter is like Pokemon but instead of forcing the animals to murder each other in illegal pit fights you do the dirty work by yourself like a real man.
Been playing since freedom 1 on psp, and world is my favorite easy. If i let nostalgia talk, it probably would be Unite, but World made so many improvements it's insane. It truly feels alive.
I think World has the best endgame. I got into MH back in MH:FU on PSP and played them ever since. Endgame just never quite made sense to me and as much as I understand the appeal of older armor abilities it's quite jarring to think the final monsters armors don't really matter all that much besides a few pieces. Then you're pretty much relying heavily on RNG to get charms you wanted because of how much obnoxious different kinds they allow. Making "finishing a set" feel like a fucking miracle rather than an intended goal. It's so satisfying coming back to World and seeing my complete sets. Then I turn on MH:Generations for nostalgia and end up back on the Sakura Method for those damn charms despite doing every single quest already 😭 Basically older MH is RNG city and as much as I love those games I'm loving the new direction. Sales numbers don't lie. Older titles feel like getting upgrades was a plus to clearing the quests rather than the intended goal. World it feels like that IS the goal. No wonder no one got into the games back then. It was literally trying it's hardest to not give you good gear. I finally get a game where I'm loving the beginning pacing and everyone complains about the very changes that helped this series explode into Capcoms best seller. Criticism's like that need to align with reality. That sad reality is the older games just weren't doing it. Also it's crazy to think majority of the series was on objectively shitty hardware. The fucking Wii while we were on 360 and PS3s. Jesus fucking christ. It more or less skipped an entire hardware generation. I'm actually getting Kingdom Hearts levels of flashbacks on trying to play this series. It's so all over the place.
Finishing a set in world is so much worse tho. You don’t need a perfect talisman in the old games but you need decorations in worldborne. Making them rng sucked. And the power creep making everything except fatalis and some alatreon and at velk pieces also wasn’t very good
@@trustyrat8632 genuinely my 1 problem with world and iceborne is how theres 2 good armors endgame. i think its more fun in a game to be able to have a variety of armors to choose from with different playstyles while none are just obeselete from the others,
>Tri in S Tier Based af Underwater combat was great and people just couldn't get good. Also 3U gave us G Rank Purple Ludroth armor, my favorite in the entire series based on skills, alone
I expected 4U in S tier, objectively is one of the best MH games if not the best one. Finally Im seeing World ranked low, was a great game but too overrated for me. This thanks to the people who never played other MH games, and the ones who think that graphics are essential to make a “good” game. As for now Im really enjoying Rise, and Im liking it more than World.
I doubted this video's quality and credibility till you put Dos and Tri/3U in S tier. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to quietly watch every video you've uploaded and everything you'll upload in the future because I think you're funny.
Not going to lie i'm pretty sure this is the first video i've ever seen of yours and I started to skip to the end right as you were talking about it, so now I gotta give you your watch time
Been playing MH since I was child and I consider World as the peak MH. It's like a love letter to old players and a fresh welcome to new ones. It made MH mainstream and got the recognition It deserves as Elden Ring did to the Soul games even if Bloodborne or Sekiro were the really good ones. The quality, the capture rewards than just killing, those huge non-load maps that Rise got inspired, the natural feeling of the weapons, the Monsters interacting with anything and you can actually interact with, etc. I will be there hunting on Astera and Seliana with new and old hunters until my journey makes me ship to the Next World.
Finally someone that isn't afraid to admit that they are 100% totally and objectively correct. I wish everyone could be like that so we could have 100% accurate debates and discussions. God bless you.
rise is either peoples favorite or least favorite. i think sunbreak adds enough content to justify the pacing, but if you're ranking it as a monster hunter game, a D makes a lot of sense. good video.
World and Tri are the best, objectively. World has the best combat and visuals, Tri is just badass. Other than those two I actually agree with most of these rankings
I’ll move World to a strong B or entry A for trying to keep things fresh and pulling new players. The same changes they made kept me from putting World next to 4U and tri. Besides that im okay with the list.
Honestly I just adore Rise's fast pace. Nowadays I don't have the time to sit down and play a game for half a day and do little to no progress in it. Rise was the first monster hunter where I didn't looked up guides for building armorsets, because building a single peace of armor doesn't take days of grinding the same monster. You can farm stuff really fast and if something doesn't works out, then I'm like "meh whatever" and don't feel bad, that I grinded, maybe a day in worst case, for an armor I'll never use again. It lets me to experiment much more, with the builds and even the weapons I use. And I think that sometimes a vastly different style is needed to put things in perspective and help you to appreciate the other games in the series. Edit: Typos.
So basically the more obtrusive, more grindy, more difficult game for the sake of bad gameplay design loops= better? Yah, I’ll keep playing world and rise 👋

MHP3 is S tier for me, that game give me such memories feelings playing monhunt with friends first time, cuz the older series I always play solo, and damn i still remember attacking monster with analog stick in ps2
If I learned something in regard to Monster Hunter, then it's to stay away as FAR as possible from the Monster Hunter Community. It's full of trashy nostalgia fans and elitists. And this comment section just proves me right. I will keep enjoying my trashy, grindy, clutch clawy MonHun Iceborn to the fullest and I HOPE that Wilds will not cater to any nostalgia troglodytes out there in the slightest. Let it be World, but times two. And for the love of god, please keep the Clutch Claw. Just to piss off nostalgia idiots, but more importantly because it's an awesome and fun mechanic.
If I could get ahold of enough drugs that I put world into C tier I would be having one hell of a time! =P However, Rise is still below World. So the list is redeemed in my eyes ;)
TRI WAS GO GOOD BRO PLEASE BRING BACK UNDERWATER COMBAT. Dude the fear of realizing the monsters followed you underwater and now you have to clunkily fight back in a zone you arent used is awesome, like so awesome, people really dont understand how terrifying it is to have to fight out of your environment with limited movement.
Honestly, Rise is one of my favorites. I like that is streamlines the game a bit. Some of the functions in the oG stuff was cool and immersive, but some people just wanna get out there and fight the big lizard! (Me I wanna fight the big lizard). All and all I agree with your points, but I still love it. However I really with they brought back Playable Palicos. Say what you want about that function, I loved it.
mh freedom unite was my first mh, i remember that i couldn't defeat the khezu and left the game for like 3 month and came back and defeated him. When i got to tigrex i couldn't kill him and left the game for 6 months, came back and defeated him. From that point i finished the game and had a blast. The game was so fun becuase it was hard and you realy needed a strategy to defeat the monster, also learning the moveset of course but hearing the quest complete music after so much effort was one of the best things that you could ever experience with this game and seeing yourself improving time after time. With the recent games like MHW and MH Rise it isn't so fun like in the old games because evreything is so easy. I still like them but they are missing this core point
I would put iceborn in A. Why ? Because It hase a beautiful living world, an excellent endaga with the best fights such as Fatalis. And negative things don't bother me with the game.
I agree with you, world and iceborne are revolutionary for the franchise. They introduced big beautiful open zones, rolling backwards, and moving while healing, turf wars. And the game felt soooo alive. The siege system wasn't perfect but it made the game feel so alive. Live events, title updates this games multi-player felt so fresh and amazing. Whether or not people enjoyed this game they can't deny that iceborne evolved monster hunter. I guess the problem with the devs is that they tried to take what was good about iceborne, but rushed it and made it too flashy. Which is what created rise, took was good about iceborne but kinda messed it up adding the wire bug. Iceborne is a great game and I think people are a little too biased. 3u and 4u are S tier still 😁.
bro I just realized today that they purposely made the monsters in Rise super fast to make up for the wirebug and dogs (literally can't remember what the dogs are called). I tried great sword in both 4U and Rise, and that's when it hit me just how jerky and quick the Rise monsters are. The heavy weapons just don't feel as good as the light ones in Rise. Haven't played Sunbreak but hopefully the monsters are better
@@waltuh2412 true true I've gotten way better at the game since writing that comment. It still plays differently than the old games but if all the weapons do
people hate rise because removing the need to actually fight monsters and work together with people removes the core fantasy of monster hunter. Rise isn't a monster hunter game- it's an arcade fighting game. In rise, you have complete control over essentially every situation in combat due to wirebugs. That's not monster hunter.
Funny how there are a shitton of people complaining about the list even tho it's 100% right The ones complaining are mostly world/rise new players who never played the old games, they played them for 5 minutes got mad they can't steamroll stuff and stopped playing lol I love world but it's 100% a step down, the player is just too powerful and has too many tools Haven't played rise bcs it looks waaaay too fast for me
Just here to point that in MHRise, you know where the monsters are because your little owl helps you track them. I assume that you have never feed the little fella, and never pet it too :c

I have a question for Nibelsnarf even after all this time, do you prefer fighting a Gravios or a Tigrex?
If variants/ sub species count than molten tigrex by far. If it’s between normal gravios and tigrex than definitely tigrex.
generations ultimate has nibelsnarf, so objectively it belongs in S

Thank you Mister Nibelsnarf, nice video.

mh freedom unite was my first mh, i remember that i couldn't defeat the khezu and left the game for like 3 month and came back and defeated him.

9:42 play mhw again, you didn't get it. Then redo the video thanks.
I, Diablos from monster hunter approve this message
bro I just realized today that they purposely made the monsters in Rise super fast to make up for the wirebug and dogs (literally can't remember what the dogs are called). I tried great sword in both 4U and Rise, and that's when it hit me just how jerky and quick the Rise monsters are. The heavy weapons just don't feel as good as the light ones in Rise. Haven't played Sunbreak but hopefully the monsters are better
Cap, gs still goes hard
@@waltuh2412 true true I've gotten way better at the game since writing that comment. It still plays differently than the old games but if all the weapons do
Hell yeah homie 3U bros rise up! I’m the psycho who bought a Wii U for MH3U. Best MH experiences ever
I always hate the long grind in the monster hunter games I don't know why people hate rise
This 100%
Well u prob quite minority then as most MH players enjoy grinding, especially ones in older ganes
people hate rise because removing the need to actually fight monsters and work together with people removes the core fantasy of monster hunter. Rise isn't a monster hunter game- it's an arcade fighting game. In rise, you have complete control over essentially every situation in combat due to wirebugs. That's not monster hunter.
Funny how there are a shitton of people complaining about the list even tho it's 100% right
The ones complaining are mostly world/rise new players who never played the old games, they played them for 5 minutes got mad they can't steamroll stuff and stopped playing lol
I love world but it's 100% a step down, the player is just too powerful and has too many tools
Haven't played rise bcs it looks waaaay too fast for me
Just here to point that in MHRise, you know where the monsters are because your little owl helps you track them. I assume that you have never feed the little fella, and never pet it too :c
Brave of you to assume he actually plays the newer games
Or does anything more than skim through them for the sake of making videos
Wow bro, cybershell vibes in this video, welldone!
Thanks I appreciate it
