This is an aspect of Pinhead and the Cenobites' character that I wished they explored more: they can be bargained with as seen in this one, Hellseeker, and Judgment.
What was going through Clive Barker's head when he wrote all of this? It's groundbreaking in terms of extreme horror but it's also horrifying. Especially the last scene where Frank (wearing Larry's skin) is torn apart by the chains and his screaming. 😱 Andrew Robinson really stepped up his game in this movie.
From what I’ve researched he used his experience as a prostitute being he wanted to explore the evil side of love, couple with the fact he used to visit hardcore S&M clubs in the 80s where people would get their bodies pierced for fun. If you haven’t read the source material I highly recommend it as it is so much better than the film in terms of it being a seriously twisted romance novel. Plus I liked the cenobites in the book better as they were…. Idk how to explain it other than they were so much more weirder in the book.
Barker is openly gay. I think he said he saw some S&M stuff like this down the years, and was horrified at how cruel it could be. That along with his own fetishes as well, is the basis of the S&M sadist cenobites.
The Cenobites in the first and second movie are just perfect. They completely missed the mark with them in the other movies in so many ways. In this one they have such an otherworldly presence to them and it's terrifying.
Cut it off before the end! "I want to hear him confess himself. Then, maybe...maybe." Female Cenobite: "But if you cheat us..." Pinhead: "WE'LL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART."
i was obsessed with this movie when i was 10..parents finally unleashed me on the horror section of the local video store...this ..return of the living dead, dawn and day of the dead...i remember the VHS tape of Hellraiser had an ad before the movie , where to send a check to buy a poster or shirt..my mom did it for me i got the poster ..i thought i was so bad ass!
I remember renting the VHS tape from one of those musty little video-rental stores back in the day. Man, it seemed so cutting edge back then. Now you can really see how "'80's" it is.
It so chilling when he said "perhaps we'd prefer you". Her whole plea was based on the assumption they would leave her alone to get to him and she had given them something important that slipped them by, and then their first response is not surprise or anger that they missed a trick, but that they might still want her, which milks her misery further which ofc is what they are all about. Iconic film. treat to see a lot of these old films growing up as a kid where they had maximum impact. if you were not watching these on a tapes back in the 80's - 90's you missed out :)
The remake isn't that bad. Yes it's a slow burn but so were the first two. i hope to see more out of the lady who played pinhead. She did a good job. I'm glad they didn't simply 'black leather S&M Goooo'

They hit the nail on the head in terms of dialogue, brilliant lines by the cenobites

I love this movie!
"YOU'RE TEARING ME APART PINHEAD!!"
I did not open the box , I did not open it, its bullshit, I did not! Oh.... hi Pinhead
This is an aspect of Pinhead and the Cenobites' character that I wished they explored more: they can be bargained with as seen in this one, Hellseeker, and Judgment.
Who are you? Explorers in the further regions of experience. Demons to some. Angels to others. My favorite line
DEMONS TO SOME, ANGELS TO OTHERS
One of the GREATEST scenes in horror cinema history!
Idk how to explain it other than they were so much more weirder in the book.
clive barker drew upon his experiences as a sex worker while concieving of this: so there ya go.
"Jesus WEPT' was Andrew Robinson's idea. He was tragically underutilized in Hollywood.
@@ihatemovingpictures gay sex worker?
Barker is openly gay. I think he said he saw some S&M stuff like this down the years, and was horrified at how cruel it could be.
That along with his own fetishes as well, is the basis of the S&M sadist cenobites.
The Cenobites in the first and second movie are just perfect. They completely missed the mark with them in the other movies in so many ways. In this one they have such an otherworldly presence to them and it's terrifying.
Fun fact. This is what the Godhand from berserk takes influence from
"A waste of good suffering!" I may never cry again!
Always felt this film was ahead of its time
Almost confirming this is the new killer of DBD

Cut it off before the end!
"I want to hear him confess himself. Then, maybe...maybe."
Female Cenobite: "But if you cheat us..."
Pinhead: "WE'LL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART."
"I am a demon to some, an angel to others, and to still others I am known as... Bob."
i was obsessed with this movie when i was 10..parents finally unleashed me on the horror section of the local video store...this ..return of the living dead, dawn and day of the dead...i remember the VHS tape of Hellraiser had an ad before the movie , where to send a check to buy a poster or shirt..my mom did it for me i got the poster ..i thought i was so bad ass!
That girl was my childhood crush🥰 so fine.
I remember renting the VHS tape from one of those musty little video-rental stores back in the day. Man, it seemed so cutting edge back then. Now you can really see how "'80's" it is.
I remember i watched first few minutes of Hellraiser 2 on VHS and as a kid i was really scared. But now... Hellraiser didnt age well.
@@Watcher4111 Yeah, horror movies got so realistic and graphic as time went on that these '80's horror movies look almost cartoonish.
One of my favorite hellraiser movie
Who would have thought this video would be so helpful 6 years later with the DBD teasers. Thanks for uploading!
"No tears please, its a waste of good suffering"
An incredible line later to be adapted by Ut2004's Nightmare characters
It so chilling when he said "perhaps we'd prefer you".
Her whole plea was based on the assumption they would leave her alone to get to him and she had given them something important that slipped them by, and then their first response is not surprise or anger that they missed a trick, but that they might still want her, which milks her misery further which ofc is what they are all about.
Iconic film. treat to see a lot of these old films growing up as a kid where they had maximum impact.
if you were not watching these on a tapes back in the 80's - 90's you missed out :)
It wasn't shown on this clip, but his last remark is "We'll tear your soul apart."
That line was epic as well. Great scene.
Watched it back in the 80s..believe it or not it was groundbreaking. It still is worth a watch. Pinhead was something else
Ditto. Also was a great source of "samples" in many industrial/goth songs.
"Many, many times..." - Best quote
"demons to some, angels to others" is such a good line
Unquestionably the best scene in the entire collection.
This 2:27 minute segment is better than the WHOLE 2022 remake
The remake isn't that bad. Yes it's a slow burn but so were the first two. i hope to see more out of the lady who played pinhead. She did a good job. I'm glad they didn't simply 'black leather S&M Goooo'
That's why 80's/90's movie are way better than modern movies.
THE BOX, YOU OPEN IT, AND I CAME
Demons to some angles to others. Hell of a line
Yeah to me they're just a bunch of right angles.
@@botterminator demons demand diamonds
It makes no sense to me, the God of the Christian or Catholic religion created demons and angels, does it? Albert Einstein said time is relative and a psychiatrist works in a mental hospital
And Aliens are from outer space?
Seeing this nine years ago, at the age of fourteen, made me realize what horror could be; and has inspired my writing ever since.
