The reason why the folders moved and changed sizes was because the water was messing with the trackpad.. Trackpads use heat and moisture to detect touch
Also touch screen like your track pad can use electrons from your fingers to touch and water has electrons too

Also the reason why you gotta remove your battery and use charger power when using it in your home. Can't power down quickly by removing the battery or powering down from the button. If you use charger power, you just yeet the cable out and you're good.

It helps me in the summer, when my gaming laptop is about to catch fire, I I pour out a jug of water and the temperatures drop so that I can enjoy full performance

icons were enlarged because the water made some contacts with the touchpad. It's like dropping some water droplets on a smartphone and screen starts to jiggle around.
I never knew icons were so absorbent.

If you ever spill water on your 💻 follow these steps and be fast to limit the damage:
1.Unplug it if it was plugged
2.Maintain the power button to force the computer to shut down
3.Position the laptop with the keyboard facing down if that's possible
4. If you cannot open it up and use a blow-dryer to dry it (ofc set to low temperature) leave the keyboard facing down like that for at least a day or two
5.Pray, your laptop's gonna need it
Yea. This is your best bet if you don't have much tech knowledge. You may do well to do this and then call an expert ASAP if you know one or have any available nearby. If they're worth their word on their expertise, they can give it a bit further chance of survival if they can come to you or it can be brought to them (remember to keep it upside down if possible) quickly after this. If they tell you "There's nothing they can do." Never call them again. Because they don't know WTF they are doing. Because the trick that would help is the most basic emergency trick in the book for this, but does require part knowledge and disassembly/assembly and any tech will have what they need for it on hand at all times.
EASY HEADACHE - Buy a NEW LAPTOP. Take out HD and move data to new computer

If you turn it off and remove the battery in immediately it will reduce damage but then you have to take it apart and dry out all the parts individually or they will definitely be corrosion

The ribbon cables that are connected from the keyboard to the screen is damaged and will no longer work until you pry open the laptop, find the ribbon cables, dry them (with a cool hairdryer for 3 minutes) and then restart the computer. And the really horrible sound was either coming from the fan bay, (which water was whirring with the fan) or the hard-drive. (also water whirring with the HDD)

Thanks for this video, cus i got paranoid after spilling some coke over my laptop. When i spilled it, i wiped it off quickly and held it up so it wouldent seek into the keyboard and reach the motherboard, the computer doesnt seem to be doing anything wrong, so i think im safe

I accidentally spilled tango on my laptop keyboard and well, I got one of the worse results, the keyboard doesn't work anymore and now I have to cope with it spamming letters or randomly clicking sometimes, I don't want to get rid of it because then I can't use some games that aren't on chromebook, so I'd rather wait and use my chromebook than gey rid of this laptop and use chromebook till my birthday or christmas

I also was doing a water experiment from online class when water spilled we quickly took the battery and some main components of the laptops and blow dreid it and then we put the components back on and when we switch on the laptop it working and even though it is a old laptop but it is still working nicely

@MJM TV It depends on the generation of CPU. The one shown in the video, yeah that i3 is terrible since it appears to be 2nd/3rd gen intel. However newer i3's/i5's can crush older i7s, especially 8th generation+ since that's when intel stopped selling dual core i5s and i7s in ultrabooks and standard home laptops.

FACT: if you pure PURE water on said laptop it won't cause any damage even if you pour it on the mainboard it will still function

This was the most satisfying thing ever to watch XD
Spilled an entire cup of black coffee on my Acer Predator the touchpad and the keyboard were drowned in that coffee. Before I could panic and go crazy I disconnected it from power, shut it down, turned it upside down, and cleaned it with a lot of paper towels. The entire surface was sticky so I had to clean it with hand sanitizer. Kept it inverted for 24 hours and used a vacuum cleaner to try and pull out the liquid. I did press the power button accidentally a couple of times while cleaning, the laptop was on less than 10% battery anyway. After 24 hours and after a lot of prayers the laptop did turn on and I stared at the screen fearing it would turn off instantly, checked the keys, all worked fine. Albeit, the spacebar got a little sticky, which I think can be fixed. I know I turned on my laptop too soon but I couldn't resist and had a gut feeling that I had done the right thing while cleaning.
So how does it work, 3 years later?

There was an accident in my apartment building and sewage water burst out and went into a few units, one being mine where I had left a laptop on the kitchen floor.
So, it wasn't just "liquid," but nasty liquid and it was almost totally covered by it.

Get your self a Lenovo thinkpad. I’ve had my X200s since 2008 has gone thru hell, with drops, spills, everything you name it, and still works perfectly fine. I refuse to retire my laptop. It’s been with me in high school, college, and grad school. I’ve spilled wine, soda, coffee, rubbing alcohol lol and I’ve only had to replace the battery once.
Interesting! I just came to this video now because I accidentally spilled about half a glass of water on my laptop (Lenovo ideapad). I used my hairdryer and a towel and it seems fine. I turned it on shortly after the spill to check every single key and they all worked. I am hoping overnight it will dry some more and it will be fine.

The droplets were about the size of a dime... I know I'm too paranoid but I'm worried af... The latop didn't shut down... I manually shut it down aftrrwards and turned it upside-down for a day...

@@physicsspace6380 Hey! Some keys stopped working. Then I ordered a keyboard for my work. But then, all keys got fixed automatically after 25-30 days. Although I bought an extra keyboard but it's of no use as all laptop keys are working fine now.

Tap water doesn't conduct enough current at 12 volts to create a hard short (it won't blow up your battery). You have no idea how ridiculous you look when you wear safety goggles for something like pouring water on your laptop.
As for that arcing sound I heard, I think that was the water finally getting to the backlight power supply (which outputs about 1000 to 2000 volts of high frequency AC to ionize the gas in the cold cathode fluorescent tubes). It arced to the water and from the water too low voltage components, which fried the rest of the motherboard (including the low voltage backlight control circuits). This stopped low voltage power from getting to the high voltage backlight power supply, and that in turn caused your monitor to go off. Also with the rest of the mother board likely fried from the high voltage, your entire computer will no longer function.

I spilled a normal cup of water on my laptop accidentally and it shut off almost instantly and now when I turn it on it's on a black screen for like 5 seconds and then it says "The system files are corrupt" blah blah blah and it's not letting me boot off of anything I've tried everything to get It to boot from something and it's not working I've even tried swapping out the SSD and it's still saying the files are corrupt and it's not letting me boot off of anything and it was only ONE cup of water like just a regular cup but ig it is what it is

I was prob a god of rng for 1 minute lol. Also this was insane because it was a 2k dollar computer that was a bit weak ngl. So basically, what I am trying to say is that I'm really lucky my computer wasn't destroyed in the process. I even saw the bsod ''CRITICAL PROCESS DIED.'' I just spilled hot tea on my laptop, i'd say around 400ML, and it shut off immediatly. I unplugged everything, held the laptop sideways so anything that was inside the laptop got out, wrapped a towel around it to dry the outside as fast as possible, and now i'm holding it open for 1-2 days and i'm praying it still works.
