I bet dell didn't even know it was possible.
Surprise that DELL even watch this and response
Wow dell you apparently watch youtube well at least you know your laptop design is good
No matter what conditions, at all costs. Even soaked in rain and unplugged for a week....Adobe is always asking for a fkin update.

i had a pipe burst once in my room. soaked my laptop, tablet, phone, and plasma tv.
the screen on the laptop was dead, but i swapped it out with a replacement part. disassembled the whole thing part by part and after some air drying for about a week it worked perfectly.
the tablet and phone in rice worked like a charm.
the plasma tv is the real amazing part though. it was plugged in and on while getting soaked. when we were cleaning out the room we tilted the tv and water started pouring out of the corner... like a lot of it. could have grabbed a small bucket and filled it.
i assumed the tv was dead so i left it OUTSIDE on the patio for a week. just before i was about to throw it away i decided to plug it in and test it...
worked fine. not so much as a dead pixel.
amazed.
Ty Guy Amazing stuff mate! You really care about your stuff, you persevere, oh man you are one amazing guy! I could imagine some people just throw away all their stuff. Great stuff man!
Miniply he left off the part where he filed an insurance claim and got money for the devices that never actually got killed haha :p
new TV meet old TV lol
***** HAHA i wish. the reason i was so determined to get everything working again was not because I "really care about my stuff"...
it's because I didn't have any insurance lol. would have had to replace everything out of pocket
Ty Guy i was just teasing anyway.. but yeah in that case you really lucked out. phone partly aside, at least none of those things are really critical..but its still money lost if they were trashed.

You also fail in capitalization.
I actually like this more unprofessional type of recording, bit of a blast from the past perhaps, but it's nice.
Same here!
Yep!
Yeah the unprofessional clips are so much better, they provide a unique feel to the spectator, like if the spectator had a deep link with the holster of the show, thus allowing an unconscious immersion to take place whilst the content is being played.
well, it is still tech tips.
Who gives a fuck! If it got over 10k likes then it's a success.
Whenever you pull something apart, make a video off it
- Replay video backwards for re-assembly
- If something awesome/horrible happens, you can put it on youtube ;)

+Draken Weiner I should point out that if had had a HDD instead of a SSD inside he would have lost all his work!
+Darth Awar I don't think water would damage the data on HDD, but it might be much harder to recover the data though since you need to crack the HDD up to read the disks inside.

Linus: "Fortunately, I don't have an Apple computer, so it comes apart."

Please, don't get me wrong, but I just don't understand why some americans love to be hipsters against their local companies. I have a MacBook Pro with the best specs and I paid twice that an American would pay(bought in brazil) and IMHO is the best that I could buy, the easiest laptop computer ever to get fully taken apart, thanks to the precise and simplified internal design. If you think that brand or product X is better than Y, it's ok, you don't need to proliferate your hate or to hail the brand.
Off-topic: My mother has this XPS 12 Duo(almost 4.5k USD in brazil) and is almost perfect, except for the screen that sucks completely, the ghosting is really strong, only problem on this machine.
Rodrigo Martins not going hipster nigga.
Rodrigo Martins Linus is Canadian but on to the point Apple have done some questionable things in the past(such as soldered on RAM). One thing that irks me(along with other people) is Apple clamming a lot of things that are revolutionary and one of a kind. Although I do agree Apple has done some neat stuff(homogenizing features into one package), it just screams PR nonsense.
undeadkillers Yes, I know he is Canadian, I was referring to people in the comments. Normally Americans and teens that keep spreading the hate of everything. If I don't like something, I don't need to hoist my flag and expect that the others will have the same opinion.
I didn't remembered that, you are completely correct about the soldered RAM, this is why I have the non-retina MacBook Pro 15 model atm. In case of Linus, I respect his opinion, I watch him for some years and he devotes his life working with computers, I trust on his view, and probably he knows what he is saying.
Ths guy might be a hipster, but at least his grammar is alright.

Done the same thing with my laptop. My daughter decided it was thirsty.
An drowned my poor lappy. Pulled it apart (completely) dried everything with a towel.
It took a few hours but it runs fine again. Done the same before with a router and a few phones. Seems to work most times.
your daughter decided your laptop was thirsty
hold on for a second
nope I can't keep my sides from going into orbit
Yer lol To cute. Had to tell her that the laptop doesn't like water.
Jesse pog I remember making a little gif animation with a PCB igniting (I know, not very realistic), and then text flashed onscreen saying "water is out poison".
But I would have waited a bit longer, and I do not recommend using a towel, fibers can get stuck, causing airflow problems or even worse, retain moisture. And I would have waited longer than a few hours.
Yer noted.lol a towel is all i could think of tho.
I don't have a compressor to blow it out. So i went all ghetto on it.. I really didn't think it would work.
I feel so good for you Linus! This story reminds me of the summer my mom gave me my first laptop when I was 12 or so: it was an old ACER with a 200MHz P2 I believe, slow and dusty, but I loved it. I left it outside over night and the following morning it was soaked. I opened up the bottom, removed the battery and let it dry for 2 days and it powered back to life.
These old style videos are still my favourite format. Congrats on getting spooked and then fixing your Laptop Linus!

As a computer repair tech, I am very glad to see that you took the time to attempt the repair. I have fixed a number of water damaged laptops and more. I think you could have taken the entire board out to make it dry a little easier, but it obviously wasn't a big deal. The best repair I've done was running jumper wires around a cracked motherboard to make the circuits work. The person did NOT want to lose their $1200 laptop so I made it work. I would love to meet up and talk tech with you sometime. You guys are the best.
You had no likes since last 8 years.
Here is your first one :)
here is a little tip, water is naturally not very conductive, it gets its conductivity by going through metal pipes and picking up extremely small shards of metal but still enough to make it conductive, rainwater isn't very conductive, its natural, so recovery based on rainwater versus, say, a hose, rainwater would have a greater chance of recovery.
All sorts of contaminants make water conductive, not just metals or running through metal pipes, mineral deposits exist in a lot of places, including the atmosphere itself. Rainwater is not very clear, as it picks up lots of debris and pollutants after condensing.
That said, it's true - clean water is not conductive, and there are worse sources of water than rain... But also rain water is pretty dirty, chemically speaking.
yes, but... his motherboard has metal in or on it making the water conductive sooooo... ya
any type of metal can make water conductive .
you make no sence first u say it isnt making water conductive then u say it is transfering electricity to it electricity can not transfer in a non conductive enviroment
yep..
Amazed! Especially since its a dell.
Dell laptops are pretty easy to disassemble, I don't see what's so amazing.

Unimpressed. Try bringing a laptop back to life after a beer spill and 30 minutes in a swimming pool. Rain is nothing to fix. Oh, did another that had baby formula spill... Was gagging the entire time cleaning it. They both worked when I was through.

It seems you're utterly incapable of abstract thinking. What he said, was close enough to establish a connection (to connect the dots) and make the damn joke. And besides, I'm sure you've heard of how there is a place and a time for everything. Well, this was neither the place, nor the time to be pedantic/anal/meticulous. I wasn't writing a dissertation here, but tried to get a laugh out of people. For fuck's sake...

Next day in the advertising departement of dell: this 1000 dollar Notebook is waterproof
You can see the future.
It's not waterproof at all if he would have turned on the laptop while there was still water it would have easily died the only way it could be considered waterproof is if water CANNOT get inside of it at all.
themartonfi it was just a joke. there is nothing to be serious about
I would be laughing soo hard if when he turned it on it showed porn and he said right where I left it
Before putting it back together 100% inspect the fan, and see if you can access the base of the shaft to see if water got into the the oil. I have repaired water damaged laptops in the past (ones that were completely under water), and the main parts to die are the hard drive (benefit of an SSD), and the fans needing to be oiled.
Turbine oil can be had for around $2 and works well on the fans.
The LCD's almost always need to be replaced if under water, as water gets into the many layers of the LCD panel and discolors them ( in addition to damaging the lights and also causing dead pixels, so I usually just replace the panels)
The modern power saving features on many laptops will protect the most sensitive components, as they are able to completely cut power to parts like the CPU and other items when turned off, even if the battery is connected.
I sneezed on my Compaq Before and it died.... :(

I reburbish a lot of radios, headsets, timers, PCs, basestations for the fast food industry.
Iv'e see everything from water damage, rats eating there way out of the equptment, headsets being droped in deep fryer.
You'll be surprised as to what is still salvageable.
True
+Bryan Geonzon Why are there rats in a place where food is made?!
dalmation black Your guess is as good as mine. I'm guess a piece of food made it inside then the rat found its way inside to get to the food and couldn't get out then the rat chewed through some of the wires and eater starved to death or electrocuted its self.. (This is alot of assuming lol)
When equipment just sits around for years and is never cleaned let alone ever opened then it breaks down and is sent to us to fix it usually has surprises mostly spiders, grease fumes typical stuff but every now and then ill find random stuff that caused the equipment failure
+Bryan Geonzon now i know not to buy refurbished items

Actually as I was responding to Daniel saying "your cool" you're wrong bitch, now sit your ass down before daddy spanks you again.
It’s been 7 years, I remember watching this video when it came out and I used the techniques shown here to save my xps 15 yesterday.
A-dell rolling in the deep...
I have an HP 15 laptop, the same thing happened, (Except it fell out of my bag, fell three feet, and into a 4 ft ditch while still on) The laptop shut off, which is what scared me, so I spent the whole day in school with a laptop that was completely taken apart, just air drying it, and at the end of the day, I reassembled it, and it ended up working perfectly fine. Now I use it as a Linux machine.
I think the only reason that laptop ever stood a chance was because rainwater is mostly distilled. There aren't a ton of electrolytes in it to fry anything.
The more plausible reason is that todays laptop's components are designed to be more resilient to extreme conditions (better insulated capacitors/batteries, built in fail safes, etc.) that if water does get inside the laptop, as long as you take the proper procedures, the machine has a very good chance of not turning into a paper weight.
Yes i think it is also the reason why my brand new g602 is now malfunctioning. Water dripped in mouse, while i was cleaning the dust and something sugary, was holding the DPI clicks, pretty tough and frustrating because i just bought it.
So yeah accidentally, when i was cleaning the case, water dripped on a little circuit inside the case. Didn't really bother me because never had done such thing before and many times i had left out my equipments outside, under rain, or forgot them. Nothing happened, nothing malfunctioned.
But that water was coming from water systems, not purified, non distilled.
After all that happened, i realized that my mouse started to malfcuntion, didn't read anything sometimes. Unwanted clicks, skipping etc. I tried to wash circuits with Vodka (since it's distilled alcohol) but it didn't really work out well. Then someone told me to put the circuits in paint thinner (synthetic). It worked. I salvaged my mouse big time. Only G4 doesn't work and i have to use ALT+TAB or Ctrl+Alt+Del, click somewhere, then back to desktop.
So if anyone wants to clean their mouse up, use distilled water, or don't use anything at all. Alcohol (for medical purposes one) works best. But i didn't have any pure alcohol at the time. Thinner also works but it's a bruising/abrasive material. So be aware, don't let your parts sink in thinner for more than a few seconds. You never know what will happen.
Kaptan Kosto I put mine in with a load in the dishwasher then let it dry for a few days :)
Sam B erm
FKProds rainwater is not by any means distilled. cleaner then tap water maybe but damn sure not pure. have you ever heard of acid rain. it worked bc the laptop was well built and he knew what to do

Great video!
I have a Dell work laptop which has gone with me to more countries around the world than I can count. I know they are well built but this really drives the point home!
I think it shut itself down because it says low battery. So it saved itself before the rain. So there wasn't enough power in the battery to spark with the rain.
it doesn't really matter how much power is in the battery i don't think, I'm pretty sure a reaction would occur just based on the chemicals in it being mixed with water.
we dunno how long it was running on when it was left out, and the entire time that it was forgotten even if it went to sleep it would be draining the battery. on top of that it sat a week and that battery was losing charge that entire time so the fact the battery was dead means nothing.
About 3 weeks ago I accidentally spilled half a liter of water on my Lenovo laptop. It took about 3 seconds before it shut down, and needless to say I was pretty sure it died.
Took the battery out and disassembled it. I let the thing dry at a radiator for something like 13 hours, and it actually turned on. The battery was full AND was charging when the accident happened.
The thing is, normal tap water (and rain for that matter) is not a very good conductor. You would think that water is the worst thing that could happen to your electronics, but that is not necessarily the case.
***** If the lithium got mixed with water it is more than likely that the laptop wouldn't have survived at all. That stuff can be dangerous!
edward stables It would have lit on fire... Case solved.
whow this is really one of the rare times I have seen you kinda down linus :O anyway good effort!
XD haha yeah I know but still...
Linus sounded so depressed and heartbroken throughout the video
One time, like a month after building my new PC, I had something similar happen. I was filling my waterbed, which involves pulling a garden hose in through the window... the window next to my new pc... yeah. Well, my poor, beautiful new PC got a full-on 4 or 5 second blast from the hose when I dropped it. God it was terrible. I did the same thing, but only for 3 days or so. I took every component out and scattered them across my dining room table with an industrial floor-drying fan. Worked fucking perfectly. I was amazed. My session didn't even end somehow.
When I was a student, I went out to a party and got really drunk. When I got home, I decided to go online with my laptop on my lap. I fell asleep, and when I woke up I had vomited all over the laptop. I just took it apart, cleaned it off, and left it to dry.
It worked, but the keyboard was mostly fucked... and it didn't smell too great :P
Now your notebook is watercooled ;)
It was a perfect chance to overclock it... What a shame to dry it out

Well done man. I had a 32" Sanyo CRT screen TV that had a water main broken by a clumsy siding guy. Right behind it. Had water poring straight through the back of the set. In through the top vent holes and out through the bottom. The set was in stand by mode. I did the same thing, opened it up, used a blow dryer on the PCB's, and a large fan on it for a week. Put it back together and it fired right up. Worked for several more years.
Linus you was so dam lucky to get that going again I wish I could of taken apart my old phone and got that running again.
keep up the good work with the videos.
Damn, that's epic.My sister got her laptop soaked once and she tried to turn in on the same day, anyways that laptop died.
wow I was a little surprised it turned back on and all, but the fact that it was exactly where you left it AFTER you had taken it almost completely is nothing short of amazing. great video guys! :)
I have been fixing computers at work for about year and half. Computers from the cnc machines that were incredibly dirty inside so I was washing them in the water.
The best way how to dry them is to use compressed air and blow all the drops off the pcb board because if you leave it there just to dry out, the water leaves soils and minerals on the place (Probably not case of the rain water, but I am not sure here). Those minerals can cause corrosion and oxidation over time and after few weeks you can encounter problems, so don't rely on it if its working after drying - it can still start failing after some time. If you blow the drops off with the compressed air though, it is a very good way how to leave it very clean and working for years and it will also look like totally new 😉
It works, but the laptop may not live as long as it should. Moisture will oxidize and decay some of the solder joints and connectors on the board as well as rusting some of the steel parts, screws and wire terminals in the connectors. I wouldn't expect to be using the thing long term. Its lifespan will probably depend on how drenched the internals were and for how long. Actually, a follow up for the working state of the laptop would be pretty cool :) +LinusTechTips
jamesb1221222 Linus probably knows that.
jamesb1221222 couldn't that work by resoldering? and replacing screws
Considering they still use it today, I would say none of that happened. So it has lasted at least 2 years 7 months.
jamesb1221222 if you clean the boards with alky ( full complete disassembly) it will prevent the oxidation, done when its still wet obviously
Sad Linus is so depressing
it is so sad, isn't it.
watch the vid xD
tell me about it lmao
Evan B. Yea man,i also kinda feel the same way if my laptop get wet and broke up..
Retirement Linus is even more depressing
mostly electronics wont get damaged if wet, as long as you dont try to turn it on, if already on, turn it off as fast as possible and remove the battery, or you will short it, because water is a great conductor. you were lucky it was just rainwater, had it been tap water, containing all those minerals and chlorine, you would have to wash it in distilled water or a huge amount of alcohol to get those nasty things, cause chlorine contains salt which is also conductive. Also rice is not so advisable because it has some fine starchy powder which will get into some nooks into your device and hardens, just put it on a warm(not hot) place, Dropped my phone once, I strapped my phone to the back my computer's water radiator for 2 days, turned it on. PRESTO!
Yep, spilled tap water on my keyboard once. I turned it off, took the little battery out, and let it dry a few days with the back open. Nothing broke and the water was from a private well, it is soft water and has no/negligible chlorine content so I can't speak on the mineral part.
Pure and nearly pure water (distilled) is not conductive, water with dissolved salts is conductive because of the ions in it
I once fixed a laptop that had a cup of coffee spilled over the keyboard. I just took it apart and placed every component on a heated floor overnight. The next day, it was abit sticky, and after just a new keyboard, it worked perfectly.
Cool
I was wrong on the soft water bit, it does contain enough minerals to leave a mineral deposit, but not enough to justify a softener.
I had an Alienware M11X that my mom spilled water on, wish I had known this in 2012.
*****
Not really, it was an overpriced piece of shit. Alienware sucks.
***** step1 sell the alienware step2 buy better laptop step3 success?

Step 2 should be buy *TWO* better laptops. As much as Alienware costs.
FraggedDabloons that or a whole desktop rig
I knew someone who spilled an entire bottle of beer into her laptop she toweled it off then let it stew for a day. Then tried turning it on low and behold it did not work. After a few more days pass she comes to see me with it. I tell her it is dead she leaves it with me with vauge instructions of to see if i can do anyth8ng for it. Just in case I plug it back in try it again in front of her and then nope it is dead and nothing can be done to reverse that. I tell her I can take the working parts out and then she can get a new pc and transfer whatever. I pull the ram and hard drive both of those work. And i pull the battery it is filled with good Samsung 18650 cells. She staggers back in my door a week later asks me if I was able to fix it I said no here are the parts left that worked... as i had told her last time. She left the parts for me to keep and was wanting my advise on where she could get a new laptop... i told her walmart.
linus sounded so hollow and sad all the way through. I'/ really glad he got it working :)

Hahaha ya

why can't you spell?

Where? Kappa
About 3 months before you posted this video, I accidentally spilled a full alcoholic beverage on my open notebook while it was on (an Asus G74SX RoG notebook, worth about $1300 then), killing it almost instantly... Apparently, my notebook doesn't like vodka. I attempted repair (after the hangover), but the damage was done; It would power on, but wouldn't POST at all. I also damaged the LCD panel, as you could see liquid splotching on the display before it died completely.I couldn't work on it because I didn't have the space/tools/patience to do it after it had happened, so I just boxed it up and let it gather dust until an opportunity came about to where I could work on it.
About a month ago, present time, I went ahead and attempted refurbishing the system. I took it entirely apart, took some 'Isopropyl corrosion removing' solution and a toothbrush to it for a good amount of time on components that appeared to be 'sticky', and let it dry overnight.
I'm proud to say that my biggest fail turned into my greatest success, as it boots and runs as it used to before the incident! Working in an electronics repair shop (and having ~15 years experience) has it's benefits, I suppose.
Part of the reason it survived is that the keyboard is a completely separate removable part that is sealed from the rest of the laptop. And keyboards don't actually have a circuit constantly running, only when you press a key so it couldn't have shorted out, the keyboard anyways.
water still got into the rest of the laptop quite thoroughly
only when you press a key yes? ... well that is because you press connecting the circuit yes? ... water is conductive bypassing the press and this causes it to short circuit and if it was connected to a second button due to the waters conductivity it would fry the circuit board ... i know as I've spilled so many fluids on my keyboards (without pressing a button) i should have learnt by now to stop drinking at my pc :P
4 keys died on my desktops keyboard when i accidentally spilled pepsi on it, so i wouldn't say they can't died like that.
It was one of those membrane types with 3 layers of plastic encasing wires.
yeah 2 of mine died that were membrane, it wasn't wires though it was a flexi pcb... one with vodka coke, the other milk :P thats why i moved onto a mechanical keyboard, more resistant to small spills
Michael Burt
that's what a "flexi pcb" is, wires sandwiched between 2 transparent sheets of plastic.
Linus looked so depressed at the start of this video and rejoiced at the end.. Felling happy for him :-D
That's why you DONT water cool laptops

The real tips is "don't turn on the laptop when the laptop still wet"
+William Suryaadmaja dont press any buttons AT ALL im sure thats how peoples phones die they get it wet and instantly try to use it, nah if it was me id take the back off and disconnect the battery i wouldnt be pressing no buttons not even to turn it OFF! that battery comes right out that instant and will not attempt to test for a week or 2 later if i got out to do with it. i can see some people been like "well ive disconnected the battery for 6 hours it should be ok now" .... NOOO its still in the same mess it was in 6 hours ago need to wait at least 7 days even then id still be taking a risk let it dry.
+Julian john my old battery died i bought a new one and it's forced to fit in my phone
i did that but my phone was in the water for so long it got water damaged the phone works its just the screen is finicky and every once in a while the power button stops working for a while so i cant use ir
Linus Wet tips
@@HappySlappyFace Same, I need to order a laptop dell battery since it isn't charging anymore
had a same experience like what you did linus,
i used my waterproof sony xperia z to make an underwater movie.( when i was on holiday in greece 5 years ago) that worked, however the phone died 2 minutes after that, it was a salt water enviroment, and never gave it much tought anymore, i accepted the data loss.....
Last week i found it, lying somewhere and decided to plug it into the pc, and miraculously , there was a response. ( pc gave some usb_dloader thing )
not that it did much, but there was hope.
so i decided to clean it up, and give it another try, i cleaned the mainboard with an electrical tootbrush to remove all the rust that got there over the past few years. my computer said "s1 fastboot mode" ( so i got more hope that it was possible to recover the data)
after that i used alcohol and an ultrasonic cleaner to remove the last rust particles.
a friend of mine charged the battery ( it needed to be charged externally due to low voltage)
put everything back together and booted the phone,
to my surprise my computer said "sony xperia z connected" , and i was able to restore the data. ( the screen was dead though)
now after 5 years, i could finally look at what i recorded :)
i'll share it here with you guys, sadly it isn't what i hoped for, but it was a nice and interesting project to see that it could still be recovered

potato potato potato potato potato potato potato
I didn't, a friend of mine has some equipment to do that, if you really want to i can probably figure it out, but i guess google could help you out as well
I also take lots of pictures. Figured out without looking it up, that pictures help you to put it back together. Saved me a lot of headaches too.
Spoiler alert; the laptop blows up and kills everyone
Fuck you! I wanted to find out myself
I watched it and I can confirm it's legit.
Lies, the one with the camera clearly survived albeit severely injured.
I cant believe that really happened!
This video should be flagged! It's too inappropriate for youtube!
My mother's xps 14 took a bath in cononut water, and went offline, scarely so, but was back online after a night with a big floor fan blowing ar at it, so i guess dell makes great laptops :D
6:05. A marshmallow shooter? At first I thought it was unfair that Linus has a ton of gpu's, but now I'm really jealous.
I am super happy for you that your laptop was NOT destroyed!
ive picked laptops up in the rain from a local recycling center just out on tables outside, just leave them for 72 hours and power them up and they work
just to add the only problematic thing with a wet laptop will be the keyboard
Im Curazy Try spilling juice on one... Works fine, but takes ages before the keys don't get stuck down.
bassl0va must smell nice.
bassl0va Before using it I would disconnect it and run fresh water through it.
The laptop I am using right now had juice spilt on it and I washed it out with fresh water and paint thinner and dried it out with a blow dryer and had it up and running a hour after that because I needed to use it that day.
Well fuck.
***** LOL, Linus is much more than a simple unboxing channel
Is is Possible?
Yes yes
Okay. Love that fact that you managed to get it started. Also the "Stare of Death" lol. But seriously. Fixing it was pretty cool. You taught me and my dad something so thanks! :D

And this was the day Linus swore to the performance of Dell laptops
their desktop computers are meh though
Dell are Irish, how has no one made a joke about potato power yet?!
their customer service is complete shit though.
I was very tired when I wrote that.
They also make awesome bombs
It's free watercooling
pro tip:water coolers are expensive but the new nature cooler works better than any thing!!!and it's almost free...really really free
I had a laptop that my friend spilled water on.
..
"just wipe the keyboard its okay"
I wish I had known this in 2012
+Edwin Animationcraft your friend is a jerk
+MrFuckingFX yeah he actually was. he's okay now
+benjamin plays wtf hahahhahahhahha
do you want to know why you put electronics in rice when it has been water damaged? because some Asian will come and fix it and get free rice
+ThatDamnGamers No, it's because that water/moist is drained by rice... and yes im fun at parties...
Really was not expecting that conclusion. Awesome!
Thumbs up HP
Dell XD
hp sux
lol its not that bad i had one of 12 yrs
lostgaming I'll never buy another but I've never had one die on me so I'll give them that. They've all run scorchingly hot and the proprietary software has never run or even updated properly.
true
Imagine if when he powered it up and it went back to what Linus was doing when the Laptop was tuned off last time, it showed some weird pron. We probably wouldn't see it but it would be pretty funny for the cameraman and the people around.
This comment fills me with determination
Not sure I understand why...
+Dramawind Cuz he wanna sea it
***** The whole video is in one take, so I don't think that's possible.
***** Umm... do you mean to cut a part of a one take video and make it look like the cut never happened is not hard? Because it is, especially when the camera is held by a cameraman and isn't standing still on a tripod. Can you give me an example of a scene in Animator vs Animation where this happened?
That's one of the reasons I love my T440s. If I were to leave it out in the rain with the lid open, all the water would go straight through the drainage ports and never touch an internal component.
what's anT440
Lenovo T440s, it's a laptop.
Dash Lambda Its not a laptop its a TANK :P
express496
That happens to have a display and a keyboard~
Dash Lambda and a computer inside
Just had this very problem after my daughter left our laptop out in the rain upside down so the vents filled with water. I copied your processes and it worked a treat, laptop is as if nothing happened. Thanks!!
The second I saw Dell commented on this video, I immediately knew the outcome of this.
That was Awesome! I cant count the times I have lost things due to water DMG. Good for you Linus, it just shows what a little patience and knowledge do pay off some times :)
He sound so sad :(
Probably a loan from the shop ... i'd be sad too.... :D
Scotty B Spoiler alert lol...As of this comment, I was 4 minutes in.
I missed the gift part, probably too busy giggling as to how someone can " forget about " a 1K bit of hardware ;)
and edited the spoiler ( Sorry ) * sheepish grin *
These LTTs old vids are quite awesome!
$1000 laptop? The first time i saw it I thought, why is he using such a cheap old laptop.Guess style doesn't change across Dell's price ranges.
But dependability does apparently.
NO the new xps 13 is a macbook pro killer. He bought the LAST gen shitty dell laptop. The new XPS 13 is the ONLY good dell laptop in year, and stand alone.
lmao trying hard to be a macbook by stealing the product design inside out
***** you can also shit on crème brulee or how ever it's spelled XD
I think you haven't seen it closely.
Thank you for helping me save my Dell Laptop that my cat decided to use as a litterbox... It was a 250€ Laptop, so not hugely expensive, but still helped a lot. Before i was about to panic and get rid of it (the laptop not the cat) .
9:15 Did he just type in his password on video on RUclips?
The hell, Linus???
I ended up getting an old model M keyboard that looked really nasty. Surprisingly the plastic looked pristine when I cleaned it, but I wanted to be thorough so I decided to clean everything, and since water got into the membrane used for detecting keypresses, it didn't work for about a day, it would keep repeating keys, but I put it on top of a vent (it was winter, so hot air would be blowing through), and it worked perfectly. Amazing what proper handling of electronics can overcome.
7:33 God damn it you actually got me XD
The XPS series are one of the best line of laptops ever. I can't say the same for Dells desktops tho...
I'll have to disagree with that given that I own an XPS 15
Adam Hosein why do you disagree?
Credit where it is due, it has a solid build quality and 5 years later it is running pretty good. However, the dedicated GPU that came with this laptop was a serious problem and has stopped working, (search xps 15 gt 540m issues and you will see). When I had opened it up to change the thermal paste, there was paste all over the die for the CPU and GPU (a lot of waste). Trying to have an item fixed under warranty was a pain (and never got to it because customer service is crap). The Dell "Certified Technicians" on Dell Forums don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to computers (so asking them for help is a dead end). Operating system issues right out the gate (thankfully I made a recovery disk the first day I got it). The worst thing of all is their product support for the device as it goes on its life, the laptop has no drivers what so ever for windows 10 and they won't help with getting any for it and the slimy bastards whitelisted their mpcie port, so using an external GPU is such a pain (though possible with a few workarounds). In all honesty, it was a waste of money since I bought mostly the name of the device rather than the hardware.
Why not dell desktops? I have a web server running on an Optiplex 745 and it's never gone down in 2.5 years
all dem nocta fans in back ground
I actually like when you speak in this normal everyday tone as opposed to your usual Tech Quickie high pitched hyper voice, I still watch however as it's good info regardless, keep up the good work!
My lenovo fall in the water completly..fortunatly i fastly put it out ..it was full off water..water was flowing tru usb connectors out like waterfall ..and i did not even wait to get dry..i turn it on after just 10 minutes ..and it worked ..and i turn on some heavy benchmarsk to heat a laptop and dry faster
You got insanely lucky then because turning on a laptop right after dropping it in water is incredibly stupid.
*****
i know it was stupid..but somehow it worked..was not so 100% lucky with a android phone ..after fall me in the water i try to turn it on..it worked few minutes and just turn off...and the was dead 4-5 days and then when i give up ..it turned on and worked ..and it works now but screen has many like some tiny white dots from water ..at least 50 all over the screen but still usable..dont use it for daily phone but still good for android games.
Lenovo and dell make very good laptops ..i bet HP would die from tiny drop off water
you can do the benchmarks to dry out but what you think about the calc staying behind you need to clean it with pure alcohol
But, is the porn okay?
