  • This was my entry into the Five Hours of Power VIII contest held by the NoLimits 2 developers. It gave the challenge of creating an RMC conversion of Son of Beast within five hours. The twist is that all entries will be judged by none other than RMC (more info here: nolimitscentra....
    While I could list a hundred things I'd change and fix, I decided to leave everything it as it is, showing all the mistakes in all their glory. One notable mistake was that I didn't go into the simulator to check my work. This led to many of the rolls and transitions to be considerably too tight and led the forces to be a bit too strong at many points. However, for a very rushed first draft with little time to think of what element to put next (which felt very uncomfortable to me since I usually create the whole coaster at once), I think I was able to pull something pretty fun together with a couple nice moments.
    [Note: I didn't have much time to make the trackwork and execution of elements of much quality so I made the POV in rider position. This was so that the ideas of the elements weren't detracted quite as much by bumpiness of the track. Of course the element execution isn't completely fixed by this, but you may be able to at least get the ideas behind the elements, even if wonky at times]

    5 hours? That was an awesome ride for 5 hours. Great job. I think adding a loop where it was on the original would have tied this together neatly. RMC haven't done a standard loop yet either. I miss the NL community, it's been years.

      Thanks! I was debating whether to have a loop, but I chose not to because it I thought it would hamper the pacing and I'd have to put a bunch of time into custom supporting. I thought the heartline roll underneath the step up would be a nice way to give a little homage to the loop and also be a really nice element. It does feel a little empty there, but there weren't any supports there that could be reused so I thought that no matter what, it would be expensive to build something vertical in that spot. This was among the bigger decisions I had to make for this, but after thinking about how RMC would approach it, I thought they would likely opt out of a loop (not because they've never done one, but because of the reasons they have never done one).

    That double entry set, at the bottom then the top really seperate this from other coaster concepts. Its got a great mix of elements and g-forces that would bedazzle any thusie and would make the park a destination spot no doubt. You have a very creative mind and I hope to watch your career with a great deal of interest.

    Well done m8! You've created some awesome elements. My only criticism maybe would be the way they are connected / pacing ;)
    E.g.
    1. I love the first stall section!
    2. I'd remove the second inversion as this type of inversion is pretty common on this layout and i like the 5th one way more :)
    3. The double down into the heartline roll lacks a bit of lightning rod (i know the limitations of the contest may be a reason :) )
    4. I maybe would remove the last inversion (because the double-right looks a bit weird to me) though i love the shaping and late ejector-airtime :)
    Though a very strong entry 💜

      Thanks! And yah, tons I'd change about the layout, but there wasn't much time to think (for a good amount of time I wasn't even sure that I'd be able to submit anything). For one, I didn't realize how many inversions I had put on it. Probably would have taken out a few (like the first barrel roll, then maybe just have a plain outerbank in the structure instead of the zero g -> outerbank, or something), but also I think the unrealistic forces and roll rates hampered the pacing a little. Also I'd probably want to try to avoid the giant turn on the far side of the layout. But otherwise, for the time I had, I think it turnout pretty nice :)
      edit: also probably would change the direction of some elements. Like the last hill might be better if banked the other way, maybe the stall should exit counter clockwise, etc.

    Too bad a retracking still wouldn't have saved SOB. The problem was the subpar lumber in it's supports. :/

    I keep feeling like the biggest thing people keep forgetting about Son of Beast is that one of its claims to fame outside of being 200 feet tall was that it was the first looping wooden coaster in the world. The loop was considered the "best part of the ride," and seeing all these RMCs not bring that part of the ride back is kind of saddening.

    • @jacksongrace
      @jacksongrace  Год назад

      I was heavily debating whether to add a loop. On one hand it would likely slow the pacing a bit but of course it would be a huge symbol for the coaster and represent Son of Beast. In the moment I chose to just have a barrel roll to symbolize it a little and also make it so I didn't have to do custom supports. Definitely regret it (I had a few interesting ideas for it), but I was still unsure if I'd even be able to finish at all (it was my first 5HOP so I was struggling a lot with time). Anyway, even considering that it was 5HOP, it's not my proudest creation.

    • @lastone032085

      SteVe is going to need it's entire lift hill + 20% of the ride redone or structurally fortified. Cedar fair is pissed with the maintenance costs with SteVe but love that it's a crowd favorite.

      @lastone032085 Год назад

      @@svis6888 El Toro doesn't sway and flex in anyway close to what SteVe does. El Toros issue was in how the load got transfered into the footers which cause the structure to sink and form that 'pothole' everyone was talking about for weeks before the accident. SteVe's actual wood structure tears itself apart top to bottom on a daily basis. Iron Gwazi literally everything RMC learned from their mistakes with SteVe. Steel lift/steel supports on all high stress areas and tire drives on all block zones.

    • @jacksongrace
      @jacksongrace  2 года назад

      (J'espère que la traduction est bonne) En fait, le coût ne serait probablement pas trop élevé car il s'agit d'une conversion RMC. Ces derniers utilisent la structure en bois existante d'un ancien grand huit en bois (dans ce cas, Son of Beast) et la transforment en un grand huit en acier de classe mondiale. Je vous recommande de faire des recherches sur Son of Beast et d'essayer de trouver les similitudes entre sa structure et celle de ce grand huit. :)
