I went from the P125 to this and the the P115 is MUCH better in terms of sound AND key action. Yamaha claims its the same on both pianos.. lol ITS NOT !!❌ they messed it up with the P125! Love the P115, own it for a year know. Bought it thanks to this video and reply👌thank you.

Wow, that's strange ideed - but good to know! In this case even more very glad that I pulled the trigger after trying the P115 in a music store in 2018 which blew me right away. I couldn't believe how authentic this lightweight and cheap keyboard felt and sounded. I'm EXTREMELY happy with the P115 since 5 years already. I would not even exchange it for a medicore grand piano.

Sounds very natural! Do you think the newer P125 sounds as good?

Hi - I have no idea since I never tried the P125. But based on my experience newer gen Yamaha products always are improved over the older, so the P125 should be at least as good. I originally tried the P115 in a music shop and was immediatly blown away by how realistic it felt and sounded. I always recommend to try a digital piano by yourself in a music shop before buying since feel and sound is a matter of personal taste.

I own a P125 and I'm thinking of switching to a P115 because the CFIII grand sample (default paino sound) sounds better.
On the P125 the CFIII sound has a brighter edge that I really don't like :( It also makes softer and more dynamic playing more difficult I feel like. Its like you don't have control over that "brighter edge" kicking in. You get it when you don't want it.

@@jortepap Ah interesting - good to know. Soft playing on the P115 is very accurate to my taste, hitting the keys softer really makes the sound not only quieter but also darker which is very important imho, and like in all Yamaha digital pianos I tried so far (and unlike some other brands) the sound also doesn't kick in at all when hittng the key very slowly, which the same behaviour a real grand piano has. As mentined already I'm very happy with the P115 and never felt the need since to look any further.
Since it was as cheap (under $600 - for my FP-8 I paid nearly $4'000 back in the day...) I even bought two units to have a replacement in case of failure. But keys so far did't break, unlike those in my older P80 which I had to fix then by putting in heated needles as shown in a RUclips guide. I think there was an issue with the grease reacting with the plastic which in the meantime obviously has been solved. So so far no complaints and no failures at all after 4 years of intense playing.

      Thanks! Good to hear!
1 question: Do all the keys make somewhat the same (amount of) sound? There are not a few keys that make clicking sound or something (compared to the other keys)?
Some keys on my old DGX-620 were way louder than the others. Was a bit annoying.

@@jortepap I never discovered anything annoying regarding this. The single keys of course don't all sound exactly the same as it's the case in a real piano, but this is also what makes the P115 sound as "real" and natural. But it's not difference in quality or annoying volume jumps, just natural difference. I really can't say anything negative regarding the sound and also the feel of the key mechanics - and I'm saying this as someone who regularly played on a bif $100'000 Steinway grand piano. Of course it's not the same, but it really feels and sounds as natural that you can forget that it's a digital piano during plaing. The only small negative point one could mention is that the sufrace of the keys is plastic and not synthetic ivory which can be an issue when you sweat a lot. But I for myself don't have a problem with it.

Great playing. Could you tell me if you can connect it to a pc in order to play it with vst plugins ? I'm looking for a good digital piano that I can also use with my Native Instruments library. I assume all these keyboards have that feature nowadays but I'm not sure.

It has an USB connector, so you can connect it via USB to a computer both to send MIDI notes from the piano to the computer, but also to send MIDI notes from the computer to the piano. I tried it and it works well. I think I not even needed a driver. What the piano doesn't have is a standard old-school 5-Pin MIDI-Connector. But not a big loss when you have USB.

    Still love my P115.
Just went to a big piano store and almost all digital piano's I tried (also waay more expensive ones) felt worse than the P115 😂 even an expensive piano like the Nord Grand (Kawai key action) was not as good as the P115 action. There were some nice sounding digital piano's but a lot of the key actions were just shit. Really slow and strange feeling compared to a P115🤷‍♂️P115 keys have great weight and response imo.

Seems we picked a winner here ;-) Yes, I feel the same. The P-115 simply feels and sounds right. I had to buy it after I played just some notes on it in a music store when it came out. It felt and sounded so natural. I don't look for another digital piano anymore since.

Even the Kawai ES920 key action didn't feel as good as the P115.

How's the action on this one compared to a grand piano? I'm a beginner in jazz piano so would you say this would put me on the right track when it comes to the keybed?

    • @b-music9329

Well, of course it's not exactly the same including all the tiny details in behaviour like the escape mechanism and distance of key suspension, but it nevertheless feels "right" even for someone like me who also had the chance to regularly play on an expensive Steinway grand - I also had another trained piano player saying the same when he tried it - which means it behaves correctly and "true" regarding dynamics and acceleration which is very important to be able to play high grade stuff like Chopin and also Jazz which works very well for me on this digital piano. It feels right and natural, accelerated notes pop out in a well way (clear and shimmery) and you also can go smooth and soft. It's done as well by Yamaha that I really forget during playing that I'm not playing a real piano. For me it's the best and most true felling and sounding ditigtal piano I've ever owned or tried, even including much more expensive ones even though they offered more emulated details like escape mechanism, which then often felt sort of artificially or exaggerated to me. I also like the sound coming from the built-in speakers - neither too bassy nor thin - just right and natural. This is very important for me since I never play with headphones because I really need the natural room sound to feel comfortable.
But I only can speak for this exact model (P-115) - which means I didn't try the follower P-125 (the P-115 has been discontinued). I previosly owned the Yamaha P-80 and the Roland FP-8 for many years and I also tried various other ones in music shops. Yamaha for me generally has the most natural feel and the best linking from mechanics to sound engine. But this probably also is a matter of taste.
So to cut a long story short: if it's good enough for an advanced player like me it for sure too is for a beginner.
