Part II is here! ruclips.net/video/WRye41YbmdQ/видео.html
your a legend for making this content in 2021. ews delete is the only thing worrying me about my build and this helps a lot
Watched this about 50 times to get each part thru my brain , thank you just got the car connected and I’m about to start fixing my dash lights
Glad you found it useful!
I'm about to pick up a 97 328i with SAP codes. I want to do the delete myself and properly tell the ECU to stop caring about the SAP system. I haven't watched the entire video yet but I'll definitely be using it for reference. Thanks man.
Yup sap delete is easy, just watch my intermediate tutorial as well
You can just jumper the pins in the plug under the hood and use the OBDII port inside :)
Correct! I found that out like a month after I made this video. I'm planning on making a new version with updated info soon
You have no idea how much this helped, granted I didn't do much searching to figure it out but I don't how to tune the stock ecu!! Or get access to it I should say
Working On The Part II Video This Week! Thanks for all the support
How to change the alpha n to tos in room raider?
Ty so much man, helps when your beginner.
could you please make a movie or send ecu with popcorn as "cleanish" has? :)
Stay tuned, I will be doing a Part 2 video covering that
@@CanyonTuned I am waiting🙈🙈🙈
Sick how you watch cleanish as well. Have the banner on my e36

@@CanyonTuned where’s it at?!?!
great video
Hi. I am using romraider. I have a ms41 stroker 3.0 m50 engine. First start in the morning is in the AFR lean 16 or 16.5 range. Afr is in the 15-16 range until the engine warms up. No engine problem. All sensors and elements are intact. No error log. After the engine warms up, afr is normal. Idle 730rpm afr 14. While driving 13.5. Acceleration and high speed and accelerator pedal full load 12.7. But in the morning the problem afr very bad. No air or vacuum leaks.
You need to tune your cold start enrichment tables, I forgot which table it is but it has an X-Axis of coolant temp, and the datapoints are % enrichment. You'll want to bump that up a little
Hello, first i wanna say thanks so much for the tutorials they are really useful and well made, tho can you upload the flash utility somewhere again, because the links in the description dont seem to be working, thanks in advance :)
This is a more up to date version and is recommended: sites.google.com/site/openms41/read-write-ms41/ms41-flash-tool
Great video that is helping me figure out how I'm going to tune my brother's E36. You have earned my subscription good sir. My only question you may be able to help me with is do you know if a Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable will work? Not a big deal if I have to buy a cheap VAG COM cable but coming from the Subaru world I already have a Tactrix ready to go. Thanks for the videos
Tactrix is subaru/evo specific. Pretty much every platform requires a different tuning cable. I've collected about 10 different ones now. The only cable that's more universal is hp tuners, but that doesn't support bmws
nice work bro
Hi, friend. the mega link is down, can you upload it again? Thank you very much for everything you teach us
Sorry my account got hacked and I'm locked out. You can buy the flash tool on the ms41 wiki, it's a little better
@@CanyonTuned ok, no problem thx me friend :)
Nice video thanks. I'm looking to upgrade my standard S50B32 eruo engine into a race built/tuned engine (new pistons, rods, higher compression). Just need to find a person in New Zealand that can tune the dual vanos on a dyno with this method.
S50 dual vanos is fairly easy to tune since it's just on/off, basically you want to do 2x runs of each intake and exhaust on and off and overlay you dyno charts to see where the power overlaps then set the vanos switchpoint 300 rpm sooner
Once you head the “uhhm” you can never unhear it 😢
This was one of my first videos, cut me some slack
Hi!!!! Men thank you 🙏!!!
I have some questions for you though…
Do you run a specific driver for that kkl ftdi cable ??
Anyway your video is very very very informative!! Thanks again!
Yup, you can get the drivers here: ftdichip.com/drivers/
@@CanyonTuned wow thanks!!! Which ones are you recommending???
Please can you confirm the pin numbers we need to weld in the obd plug😊
Google ms41 wiki and look at the "enable write page"
Pretty sure I mentioned them in the video as well.
@@CanyonTuned thank you! Worked like a charm!
for scanning modules and coding what would be the process? could you make a video about it? awesome content!
No idea how to code honestly
@@CanyonTuned ok, for scanning what program would you use? my e36 doesn't have a obd2 port underneath the footwell only the 20pin connector
@@SonyPsp08888 check out my advanced tutorial, if you don't have an odb port just get a obd extension cable and run the 20 pin -> odb extension -> obd cable so you can have the laptop inside your car. Rom Raider logger works great
all i hear is "ummmm" hahaha but thanks man❤️
This is when I first started youtube lol it was rough at the beginning
so complicated i just need to flash ews my sap and get rig of nmy cog light due to manual swapping
I have another video for a one click solution.
Good videos 👍 .. can I use the Ftdi cable looks like the one you have but in the title of the cable it says for Volkswagen ..
Seat .. Audi . I have a 95 bmw 318i trying to remove the ews2
Should work
HakenE30 supports this
Hey dude nice vid but i dont have all paramters to change as you do what ist the problem?
You are working from the full read...you need the partial file. Follow the exact instructions in the video please
@@CanyonTuned yes but then the program says ecu reject
Then either you don't have the correct definitions or your specific ecu isn't supported
@@CanyonTuned it is supportet porbably this is what in romraider says this ecus is not supported ther ist not mine

Cant u show us how to do the step with connecting the opins?
Unscrew the two screws on the 20pin connector. Split the connector. On the back use a jumper wire and solder it. It's dead simple
I have MS41 , got the file and disabled EWS. There is only OBD 1 connector inside my e36 which I used in order to read. How can I flash? How to locate the 14 and 18 to bridge them when there isnt x20 connector in the engine bay? Thanks!
Then you have an obd1 car. You cannot flash it, you need a removable chip switched out in the ecu with a tune in it. Tons of them on ebay
@@CanyonTuned my bad its a 16 pin obd 2. That goes inside the car, I dont hve the x20 connector. The ECU is ms41 index, I have found out that pin 7 is the kline and pin 16 is the 12+ volt. Can i bridge 7 and 16 and try to flash?
Hey, thank you for this video series. Before i want to get started on everything I had a quick question. I did the e-fan conversion just like yours with the relay and etc. My orange wire goes to pin 16 on the diagnostics connecter and at the moment its cut and directly spliced to the orange cable. I am wondering if Ill have to resplice the original pin 16 wire to the pin itself before I do any sort of tuning. And question 2 would be where did you route the orange wire as i see it going under the cowl to the fuse box? Thank you in advance!
My efan is pretty ghetto rigged. My wire that goes to the fuse box is just soldered to a fuse that's hot when the key is on. That way the fan shuts off with the car. I'm not sure what you're talking about what the diag connector. Nothing fan related should be going to that. Mines wired to the main b+ terminal where you can jump the car from the front
@@CanyonTuned Hey man nice video. You probably have lotta questions here but, do you recommened I do a tune like this after I just swapped to a m50 manifold? I dont know how to tune so Idk if I should just order the cable you bought.
hey man nice videos, Have you ever converted an ms41.0 to an ms41.2? I have read that it can be done in the RR forums but I am not entirely sure
I've never done it, but be sure to use the new quick flash tool and follow this guide: www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=13063

The romraider forums have stock bins. Just compare it with your bin from the car
Hey man great videos i just got in to tuning i have romraider and a proper usb wire but i cant for the life of me make romraider logger work it will just constantly try to connect but wont any help would be greatly appreciated
Are you using the obd or 20 pin connector?
@@CanyonTuned obd
You still need to jump the pins on the 20pin connector under the hood to get logging information. Refer to the ms41 wiki (Google) for the in information. There's two sets and they both need to be jumped
Is the software the same for M42B18 with a bosch ECU ?
Nope, refer to my other guide. That's ODBI ruclips.net/video/WQUWzzpRlPk/видео.html
When i open the image in rom raider it doesn’t show me any table to modify it, is it a common problem?
Sounds like you don't have the definitions loaded or the incorrect ones
Ms41 won’t read my cable and all drivers are installed 😢
Make sure your device is using com port 1 in device manager. That's the most common issue
Cant seem to get cable to connect with Seimens tool. It works fine with other programs. Any idea why it wont connect?
Make sure your cable is set to port COM 1 in device manager
Can you load the partial map and unplug the car, then make your changes and then plug the computer back in once you have everything changed and upload the new map changes
Yes the only time it needs to be plugged into the car is when you're actually reading or writing to the ecu. Or you need to log (see my other videos)
@@CanyonTuned so could i grab the save file, unplug from the car and do all the changes, then just plug it in when i’m actually writing to the ecu when i’m finished?
@@__akuuma You only need to be connected to the car when you're reading, writing or logging.
I connected pin 14 and 18 and turn on the quick flashtool and I can't flash. What to do with this?
Are you using the obd port or x20 connector?
I have installed those ecu definitions but in ms41 I’m missing DTC codes removal and also speed limit in rpm to make launch control, any chance to get that?
You need to be working for a partial file not a full
@@CanyonTuned yes I’m working on partial bin file but I have ms41.0 I think that’s the reason :c
Hello there got a problem can you help me please got cables got the flashtool i bridge pin 14.18 but when im going to flash my ecu nothing happent (also it say cable connected but nothing more )any ideas?

I think you have to swap one of the wires for it to work. Not sure but I would just buy the correct cable they're cheap
hi, i liked the video but i have some questions... i have a '93 320i so it has a m50b20 vanos engine and OBD1 siemens ms40.1... so no flashable. but i know that it can be red from eeprom reader and up to here no problem... now, do you know if the file is the same as that of ms41? can you edit with programs like romraider? is it possible to use the program you show in the videos? Thank you.
because the problem is not so much the reading but the modification because I don't know if you can easily modify it as an ms41
Yes, if you look at the romraider forums they should have definitions for the M50. You can try using tunerpro too I believe. Worst case scenario you can just use a binary editor but you have to know which specific sectors correspond to each table/value.
@@CanyonTuned perfect, I sincerely hope there are legible definitions for mere mortals
Anyone having problems with the definitions I can’t seem to find the right one
What dme is it for?
Hello!! Did you write the partial with the ecu mounted on the car? Is not necessary to use a bench setup? Ive seen a lot of people doing it just for a simple partial write and i was considering if its necessary or not. I know of something goes wrong you are f**d up but isnt it just a 1 minute work?
You never need to bench flash these ecus. Just make sure you have a battery charger hooked up if you're doing a full read/write
@@CanyonTuned Nice i thought so. Have you ever tuned a DISA btw?
Hey Bro! I have a 325i (bosch ecu, not siemens as you have). It's the same process to read and write the tune?
No those require you to flash a new chip, please check out my e30 tuning video. It's the same process
is this OBD1 or OBD2 LMK PLEASE!!
Been mentioned a thousand times I'm the comments. Obd2
Is this for OBD1? or OBD2? or Both?
You can't tune OBD1 cars, they're removable chips
Are the steps same for 96' 523i?
Yes and no. You might have trouble finding the romraider definitions for that motor. People don't usually tune them.
@@CanyonTuned it's got a siemens ms41 ecu with m52b25, did a bit of research and it should work, but i was wondering if those softwares even work on windows xp (shitty diagnostics laptop)
Hi, after flashing the ecu, i got crank no start situation and getting these codes
100 control unit self test failed
68 tank venting valve
Fuel pump is working but it looks like there is no spark
Any idea ?
Thanks in advance
Seems like either you checksum isn't correct when you flashed it, or you have a mismatch of DME software versions. Without more information on the steps you took, It could be a lot of things honestly
@@CanyonTuned thanks for the quick response
All i did was
Using the ms41 quick flash took a partial copy
Open romraider to change the rev limiter hysteria to 32 to make it fast rev
And then flashed to the ecu
Tried to flash the stock partial file
It flashes but still same issue crank no start
“I can still read and write to my ecu with out a problem”
Flash back to your original tune and try a different number, you might have gone outside the range of acceptable values. I've never messed with that specific setting before
Problem fixed, it was all because of the ews module it was causing the dme to not fully write or flash which ended up causing to ruin the flash IC in the dme
I had to disconnect the ews and bridge it
Then to flash the IC module inside the dme
Then to copy another dme and write it to my dme
Then tune it and its done
I hope it make sense
Could I see how you did the weld inside the 20 pin. Like a photo?
Open up the connector (there should be screws) and solder a wire to the back side of the pins mentioned. If you look very closely the pins are numbered at the front side.
@@CanyonTuned Thank you
Hi could you please confirm that this cable will work instead of ftdi chip?
Will this work with 92 or do I need a different ecu
That requires you to burn a removable chip, this is for 96 and newer
@@CanyonTuned thanks for the response 👍
I’m having issues with openms41 I can’t buy it and I found a link to the version you have, but when I hit partial or anything nothing happens. Device is connected, and bridge the pins under the hood with jumper wires
Check device manager, make sure your cable is detected and the port is set to COM1
@@CanyonTuned it is, do you have a link to openms41? The website to buy it is down.
Also romraider logger doesn’t detect either.
sadly i did all of it and it still dosent shoot/pop well i tried ye i did watch part 2
Do basic functions like raising your Rev limiter work? A lot of people make the mistake of not sending the "write" signal to the ecu explained in the first part
hey the url for the MS41 flashing utility is not working anymore..
Just buy the new quick flasher, it's much better sites.google.com/site/openms41/read-write-ms41/ms41-flash-tool
I know this is kinda dumb since in my country i'm not allowed to drive more than 109hp, but will this work on 316i e36? I don't have a license but i'm very interested.
Depends on what year. If you have an early model you need to use my other video to create your own tuning chip
316.... You mean 318?
I hope you see this comment. I know it’s an old vid but would you be able to turn off dsc through rom raider? or does it have to be dealt with separately since it has its own module
I think that's part of one of the body modules that needs to be coded not tuned. Most people just remove the DSC hardware and pull the bulb in the dash
@@CanyonTuned thanks
I am really close I have the backup.bin on the computer now and I downloaded the ecu definition files and they are in the definition file manager but when I go to open image and click on the backup.bin it says that the “ecu definition not found” I have looked on the forums and can’t find anything to on there did you have the same problem

You mean EWS? See this video: ruclips.net/video/-dFAqbgDHqk/видео.html
Does the EWS have to be bypassed before any mapping changes are done?
Nope you can leave EWS enabled and still make changes
Would you be willing to make me base map for my build so I can start and drive it to work out any kinks until I can take it to a dyno?
Just scale your injectors, add a little fuel and take some timing out of it if you're forced induction
@@CanyonTuned I know but I don’t know how to do any of that at all this is my first build.

Can you use this to tune a turbo e36?
Yes, you just need to run a 540i MAF or do the resistor mod on the stock MAF. You can check out the rom raider forums for details. I believe some people also run MAFs from other cars (the 350z one is pretty popular) and scale/calibrate it in your tune
