There's nothing like developing your own film at home for me it's a lot of fun. What I love about caffenol is that it's cheap to make, it's eco friendly, it's as far as I know the least toxic so it's safe to handle and if you develop a roll of color film in it you often get a really cool sepia tint, great tutorial Manny.
Hey Thanks Man Late on the reply! I completely agree I have other developers but I rarely use them for the same reason of ecological impact. Plus it makes me laugh a little that I am using coffee. Thanks for watching and happy shooting!
Thanks for giving out the substitute for potassium bromide in a form of salt. The whole video is very valuable for us caffenol fans. I got me the Lomo tank when it was still not expensive. Lucky me! Thanks a lot for this film. :-) can’t wait to watch the telecine video.
Hi Manny! Saw your vid with Ben on Ben's Camera show episode 9 Caffenol. Great stuff!!! I have a ton of K II ready to process and wanted to ask if you could provide the recipe you mentioned where you cut the K 40 recipe in half. Cheers and keep up the great work!
You got it. I normally use 143g soda wash(Arm&Hammer), 16g vitamin C(100% powder), 10g iodized salt, 42g instant coffee(caffeinated of course). I put these in one container with 1200ml of distilled water. I then measure out 600ml of the solution and add 600ml of the distilled water. I put in into the freezer to get the temp down to 20c/68f(about 3.5min per degree). I normally do a 5min presoak but considering the age I only do a max of 3min at 28c/82f. Like I said on the show, this year I will be working more on this formula. So the presoak part is still a bit of a mystery for me this one works quite well with k40 but for this one I'm not sure yet. In the winter I put the tank in warm water for the presoak. The developer I set for 6.5min with a 1min agitation in the beginning and quick ones every 30 seconds. Water wash until all of solution is washed out. I put the caffenol back into it's receptacle with a some steel wool overnight. I use Ilford Rapid Fix (time varies with usage). Wash in water let it sit in water for 5min. Remove remjet as needed put back into water with some photo flo(a drop of dish soap works as well). I give it one more cleaning and dry out of the photo flo and hang dry. Some thoughts on this is maybe a slight increase in the soda wash could increase contrast...........also a bit of soda wash in the presoak........herbal developer candidate, maybe a bark(mesquite for me) or mint and basil. There you go I hope this helps, thanks for watching!
@@tiomannysworld6835 It went well! I did one film at 3 min and another at 6.5 min and got better results at 6.5. Starting to move into test strips and the lomo tank, I have been developing in a 5 reel 35mm tank which makes the results more unpredictable. Which isn't bad but with the k II I feel to retrieve the most from it, the lomo tank is needed. Cheers to you good sir!
I use 1000 ml for anywhere from 4 -6 minutes depending on how used the fixer is. I use Ilford rapid fixer. hope this helps let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching and happy shooting!
if its the new ekta for sure it will work. if it's the old ektachrome 160 g you may have quit a bit of reticulation. for the 160 try putting the fixer down to about 68 degrees fahrenheit. This will help for the emulsion not to melt off. If it is the new stock it will work with regular temps. Thanks for watching!

@@tiomannysworld6835 Thank you very much for this!!! I will be starting shortly this afternoon. Cheers and keep up the great work with expired film.
Also would love to see any of the experimentation with the formulae
@@jaredmichaelsobotka3454 I am stoked about it! How did your developing go?

Do you know if I'm able to do the same with Ektachrome 100 super 8? I'm assuming it'd turn out as a B&W negative???
