Episode 61: An Aerial Telecine Experiment Part 3
What's up everyone! In this episode We will see my 3rd part of an Aerial telecine experiment. i used an old spotlight attachment for this project since it had 2 double convex lenses set together in an assembly. I figured why not give it a shot and see what can be seen with a low wattage led for the light source.

Bauer C1M Super 8 Camera Breakdown Overview
After some research I found your channel. I have some 8mm Kodachrome from the 1970’s. Would you have any recommendations where I could send it to see if it can be developed?
very cool thanks, hmm so lets see i know that there is a few but they are quit expensive spectra $95, pro8 $115, rocky mtn film lab $48.50(comes on a dvd). I know there are few more maybe gauge. Best of luck, Thanks for tuning in!
I got a Bauer C Royal 6 (I thought they were all the same but I apparently bought the 6 model? Oh well I’ll get an original eventually.) that I’m importing from GERMANY! This model doesn’t come up for sale on US eBay at all! I’m afraid I’m probably also gonna import a Nikon R10 from Japan as well because at the moment NOBODY in the us is selling any that ain’t parts or repair!
Hey Bud do you mean the Bauer c Royal silver? OOh an R10 so nice those dudes! Hard to find both of these i've kept an eye out too haven't seen any up for sale. If I do see any I'll let you know big guy!
@@tiomannysworld6835 good 2 hear! Getting hard to get an R-10
Very interesting. Thanks for the great video Manny.
I'm curious to see how it looks man, thank you bud!
Looks like you're building a "Death Ray" and disguising it as a telekinesis lol
Just a regular telecine bud lol!
I was going to use a bike tyre repair glue and a cotton bud where the split was. in the end I replaced it the Braun 800 is 62 mm thread
yeah I a have a few hoya lens hoods for that and some other cameras but I figured what the heck, give this a shot see if it works. It worked quite well the rubber is thin enough to not add hardly any weight. I did it kind a haphazzard so my finish is rough but I think taking time with it measuring it out. I was eyeballing it then trimming as I went. Thanks for tuning in!
Fortunately they still have eye cups for my bolex but it pulls off easily and I found a broken JVC camcorder eye cup that fit perfectly. Great technique. Would have watched earlier but didn't get the notification
Thanks for tuning in Barry!
manny that intro was really cool! thanks for this video!
Thank you man, I appreciate it!
What equipment did you use?
Hey bud so the gear in this video was an "el Omegar" enlargement lens 75mm f3.8, sony fdr ax43a (Exmor R CMOS), gaf 3000s Super 8 projector. The image is recorded pointing the camera at the enlargement lens and using the optical zoom almost fully zoomed in. The enlargement lens is mounted to the projector using foam sticker tape to absorb micro jitters from the projector. That's the setup that this footage was shot with. Nowadays I use an Elmo FP A for all 8mm work with the same lens and camera. Hope this helps ya out, thanks for watching!
Super 8 guys always bounce back
You know it bud
Que bueno Manny. A la espera de las imagenes y los proximos videos.
Gracias Carlos!
I can’t find the live chat..
I saw ya in there bud thanks for dropping in!
I believe it's true
Wasup?! I’ll try to tune in.. comin’ up at 9:00, right?
Thanks O!
How's it going? It's raining here in south Florida
Blustery and dry so far been raining a lot here! Thanks for coming through Barry
Damn, really solid camera, will have to keep an eye out. Thanks for the video, Tio!
No doubt Remy, thanks for watching!
Anytime
Good to see ya Barry!
I'm sampling various B&W stocks
Man so cool, for me getting colorized soon
That's why I shoot fresh film, not that often though
Good evening Tio
What a fantastic video, Manny! So glad you’re back, you always seem so authentic in your videos. Keep creating, my friend!
Thanks Mike, I'm nose to the grindstone bud! Thanks for watching!
Looks like the Alps
This was in the camera when you got it?
This was shot by my friend with my Nizo he took it to iIaly and Switzerland. Last weeks video has the first two reels. Thanks for tuning in Barry!
Hey Manny! Wow, those tracks really up the production value and I love your music choices. Very cool bud, I'm going to rewatch it on a bigger screen, -keep up the good work!
Awesome thank you!
have done some 8mm recently, reversal, love it, pity not much colour film about in europe
I really like reversal as well, nothing like being able to project your films! Really I was under the impression that there was more regular 8mm available than out here in the states. Figures though hey thanks for watching and happy shooting!
@@tiomannysworld6835 Took some Kodak super 8 100 D for my mums 80's in May on a cruise in Norway, had it back recently very good took with my dad's 233 c camera he used when we were kids.
Good story telling Tio Manny!
Gracias Ruben!
I have the Braun 800 great camera my lens hood split but I managed to get a replacement 62 mm thread I like the Fujica 600 to the cartridges are great for backwinding effects and you can reuse the cartridges with loaded Super 8
Yeah same here with the hood splitting I have a vid planned on an idea of how to fix that issue along with eyecups that are splitting. No lie I have been looking at getting a single 8 just trying to see which model I want to go for. How do you like the optics on yours? I have seen some footage online seems to have a real nice image. Dig the backwinding option so cool man! Thanks for tuning in
@@tiomannysworld6835 I think the Fujica Cameras are Robust Paul Morbid has used them the ZX800 and ZX 1000 its easy to open the Single 8 Cartridges and load them with Super 8 just got A Quartz double Super 8 Camera and some film very Robust will be testing that one soon
@@tiomannysworld6835 I have the Fujica ZX 600 the optics are quite dirty on this camera and I have Fujichrome 25 to test it I got it real cheap love the back pressure film plate on it just like on old standard 8mm cameras I think they are well thought out cameras that should have been more popular in there time it would be nice to see them revived
Nice to see another video from you! I have lots of 8mm & 16mm cameras but not very many Super 8. I really envy your Super 8mm gear. I have to ask.. which is your favorite Super 8mm camera?
Thanks O! Tough question, of the ones I have I use the Bauer s209 the most. At least recently past year or so. I really like the images that come from it. All time fav is the Nizo I feel like I know this camera so well and I love the aesthetic of the design great glass yah the Nizo. Thanks for dropping in big guy! Happy shooting
Hey Tio, glad to see you back online. I've only been seeing you on Mikes Sunday livestream
Hey Barry! Thanks bud, yeah no doubt I try to drop in keep in touch with you guys at least in that way. I love this community I'm looking forward to making some more vids! Happy Shooting, thanks for tuning in!!
@@tiomannysworld6835 those were some fun films, I enjoyed watching them.
Hola Manny
Hola Carlos
I looked at these beautiful treasures with envy! Congratulations and all the best, colleague!
Thanks I love the way they look as well especially the C3R. Happy shooting!
I have this one too, did u think the lens if removed can be adapted to modern camera like micro fourth thirds using helicoid or any adapter?
that would be a cool project. You would have to make a mount to put it on any adapter and flange distance might get tricky but im sure it can be figured out
Thank you for sharing this video!
Thanks for watching!
Good morning. I have the Bauer C1M, in good condition, but the battery compartment closure is missing. I don't know how to connect the batteries and what their positioning should be. If you have a diagram or an explanation that will help me out a lot. Many thanks in advance
ok bud lets see what we can do. So the assembly takes 3 AA's there is a contact plate for the two on the fat side and the single battery will complete the circuit with a single plate touching the contact point on the handle. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and happy shooting!
I don’t know if this is a stoopid question or not, but loading film … isn’t it light sensitive and would you load as you showed it in a darkroom, I.e with a red light?
Not stupid at all. For standard 8 you can load the roll in subdued light this is because it comes on a daylight spool. It will expose about 2 feet of film. Back in the old days they would load the reels with a bit more film for this very reason. It can be loaded in a darkroom or a changing bag to give you a little bit more footage. Thanks for watching and happy shooting!
Films like this are why I love analog, and especially super 8, so much. This is really beautiful, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching and happy shooting!
does the Elmo 106 film in color ?
It can shoot any of the color films. It will auto expose 16/25 asa 160/250 asa. Best if you meter it yourself, for the tungsten stock it has an 85 filter that is engaged with a red slip plastic piece that is found at the top of the camera; filter in: when inserted in the back of the top handle. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and happy shooting!
Why are you using such a shit video camera for the telecine?
looks terrible
thanks for watching and happy shooting!
Is the Paillard Bolex P1 for DS8 or 2x8mm film? Which one is better? P1, P2, P3? I shot on a Czech camera, a Russian Quartz-zoom DSS-3, but I want to progress further. Thanks
Hey there the P1 is 2x8mm film camera. from what i've heard the P1 and the p3 because they had farther focal distance but this may mean the less elements in the P2 would make for a sharper picture. pure speculation from here say I have P1 and I love it! whenever i see the images i get from this guy it blows me away and I have yet to shoot any color yet. The variable shutter is very nice to have if shooting with a high iso film in the sun you can adjust your shutter accordingly. Hard to find in cameras of that era. Definately very nice cameras! I have a couple of quarz a ds8 and 2x8 both still run great and take great pictures, Hey thanks for watching and Happy shooting!
How’s it going? I’m finally checking out everyone’s channels from our group that tunes in to Mike Long’s Filmboy24 livestreams. I’m watching your videos and thought I’d say hey. I don’t have any content to speak of yet, I’m just a guy who’s hobby is repairing old photography equipment, and who has lots of film gear. I’m planning on shooting a bunch of film this year. Anyway, take care and I’ll probably see you in the live streams.
Hello, doing well! Awesome I dig Mike's channel great content and the livestream is so cool man. Love chopping it up with fellow enthusiasts. Thanks for dropping in and saying hey, happy shooting!
can you use 500t film stock on the 104?
You can but it won't auto expose correctly. Have to manually set the fstop. It's about two stops off with auto. thanks for watching.
i just got the 104 and i put the light meter battery in the tray but it won’t fit back into the slot of the camera, i’m using a 1.3 v wein cell battery
Hey there not sure why that's not working for you. Usually they fit right in snug but not to tight. Sorry wish I could help out with that. Thanks for watching!
Hey I watched you clip which is awesome 👏 Btw Recently I got Elmo super 104 as second hand. After insert a battery, I confirmed that zoom function could work but pulled a trigger for a recording without a putting a film, then it didn’t work. What do you think about this occasion ?
Hey, sorry this took so long to answer. hard to say though It may be that the motor hasn't moved in a while and needs to get some lube. if you have a cable release try using that on the button on the body of the camera. if nothing try using the release on the single frame which is right below the viewfinder. if that one fires a frame off do a few more than switch to the regular fps release. This may unstick it but it will need some lubrication no matter what. Hope this helps thanks for watching and happy shooting!
Do you know if I'm able to do the same with Ektachrome 100 super 8? I'm assuming it'd turn out as a B&W negative???
if its the new ekta for sure it will work. if it's the old ektachrome 160 g you may have quit a bit of reticulation. for the 160 try putting the fixer down to about 68 degrees fahrenheit. This will help for the emulsion not to melt off. If it is the new stock it will work with regular temps. Thanks for watching!
Many, do you know about "off the wall" brand cameras that use lenses made by top manufacturers? I have an Alstar Pz 803 super 8 camera and I suspect that the lens is made by Pentax.
I have seen quite a few hard to say what the lens is. I normally gravitate towards certain glass on my super 8 Schneider mostly. They were used by Bauer, nizo and Beaulieu. I also have quite a few Elmo's and Canon each used their own optics. The camera you have I have never heard of but it looks nice from the info I found on it. Lots of super 8's out there that are excellent but aren't well known. Thanks for watching and happy shooting!
Time to ramp up your house security!
No doubt i got that taken care of within a few weeks.
Sorry how much fixer do you use and how doest that depend? thanks
I use 1000 ml for anywhere from 4 -6 minutes depending on how used the fixer is. I use Ilford rapid fixer. hope this helps let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching and happy shooting!
Hello, something is wrong with contrast and focus maybe film quality my 50 years old films are more better view. may be film is not fitted in the camera properly. development of the film also can be issue.
hmm ok the contrast is probably underexposure and the focus....if your using the c3m make sure the dial on the left should be set to infinity which should be the dial is set clockwise till it can't move. On the C3r each lens has its own focal length where your iso defines the field of focus. This is true for both except the c3m has the macro option with the the aforementioned dial. F2.8 is about 6.5 ft at f16 you will have focus at about 2.5ft. Shooting with primes is a bit more involved. So for 50 yr old film you want to overexpose about 5 stops depending on how it was stored will determine how well it responds. Solid rule of thumb is 10yrs=1stop overexposed. Hope this helps thanks for watching and happy shooting!
I am looking into getting a C3R, but have no idea what kind of film to use. Do yall have any suggestions?
Not to much to choose from here in the states Film photography project 500 and 100 negative stocks are nice, foma from Bh or adorama. In Europe there are many more choices on8mil, gauge, widescreen centre to name a few. John Schwind closed shop at International film brokers sad to say he had a good variety but no more. The lenses on the C3R are nice and have a good contrast for higher Asa films. If shooting indoors you will need a fair amount of room between your camera and the scene if shooting wide open hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Another vid...nice. That is a really beautiful camera, too bad about the light meter, that is always a bummer on those double 8 with no manual exposure control.maybe you can find another body, some nice accesories you have. Are the lenses D mount? I guess you did say proprietary, maybe not?...Kodachrome 40 seems perfect for wide open. Thanks!
Yeah It's a shame but what you gonna do other than try to shoot with it anyway. Nah not d mounts nice glass on it would be cool if it was. Thanks for watching, I'll keep them coming!
