The pictures turned out great. This looks like a cool process. It looks like you are making coffee to drink. I didn’t know this type of developer existed. Thanks for showing me something new.
Wow what an incredible experiment! Never thought you could do this with coffee. Would definetly try this out too and lets see how it will work out with me 😁. Your pictures are so amazing at the end. Thanks for sharing your creativity 🤗
Great results for your first development, you’ve inspired me to try it ! With the washing soda without water, how much do you think I should use following the rest of the measurements ?
Note the very high level of emulsion fog he got. This is a characteristic of "caffenol", although it seems to vary quite a bit. Why? Probably because instant coffee is a commercial food product which has all sorts of by-products of the "instant" processing required to make it. You can assume that some sort of real coffee is included in instant coffee, but you cannot assume that the chemical elements it contributes will be the same in all brands or have the same amounts per teaspoon. Caffenol may be an interesting diversion for some folks, but it packs some negative aspects: (1) Because you never really know what you are getting when you use food products as photo chemicals, results will not be consistent. (2) High base fog, as noted. This adversely impacts image contrast, sharpness and usually means higher grain. (3) Must be mixed fresh for every use. It has a useful life of about 30 minutes and is usually dead by 60 minutes, and it smells bad all the time. Conventional developers can usually be used once in diluted volumes or reused a number of times without dilution. (4) Although offered as cheap to use, in fact it is as much as three times as costly per film roll to use as a conventional developer like D-76. However, you have to order photo chemicals from a supplier, and cannot buy most of them in a supermarket. (4) It is not easier to make. D-76 uses four chemical components (the same number as caffenol). Advantages of caffenol over conventional developers? Really, none.
Let me know what you think of the images and if you have ever tried caffenol
