Judas priest Ford, would it have killed you to just install a couple of trap doors to allow easy access to the drain plug and filter? Forcing owners to remove an entire panel is why these panels end up getting torn apart.
I don't think it's that big a deal. I just bought a 2016 and pulled the cover off just to see what was involved in the oil change and a general look over. My cover is held up with 10mm hex head screws. I just turn the torque way down on my drill going back in with them. I bet that cover has something to do with aerodynamics for better fuel economy plus some protection from road debris.
