    If you have electronic rear emergency brakes on a 2016 ford fusion you are not going to be able to just screw the caliper piston in all the way. You must put the car into "emergency brake maintenance mode" to do this watch this video. 2016 Ford Fusion rear brakes with EPB. This guy saved my butt.

    Tools needed; Lug wrench (19mm) T45 Torx bit and ratchet, Brake cube tool ($12.99 at Advance auto), flat tip screw driver /prybar. 1st side took me an hour including second run to the auto store for caliper tool. Second side was literally 5 minutes! thanks!

    Many people don't know, ford implemented a brake maintenance mode for the rear brakes, theres no need for that tool or any tool, RUclips how to turn it on, and the piston can be pushed down with your thumbs, makes life incredibly easy!

    Useful video. Bought disc tool for $13. Didn’t need it. Learned from comments to use Ford Service Mode. That put the electric parking brake in a state where a gentle squeeze with a c-clamp easily compressed the caliper plunger.
    First side took 3 hours. Second side 10 minutes.

    Make sure to put it in brake maintenance mode before taking off the wheels and always remember to lube those “caliper guides”, That’s the main reason the brakes go out so fast

    • @WheresWaldo05
      @WheresWaldo05 2 года назад +3

      The main reason brake pads wear out fast is due to buying aftermarket brake pads that wear out at best 50% of the stock/oem brake pads life capacity. Also if the rotors have defects in them. And lastly the caliper cylinders sticking so the pads are always or partially engaged.

    We have a 2018 Fusion and the caliper bolts are driven with a 7mm hex socket. Are you certain yours are T-45? They're both hex, but if you use a Torx on a hex head you might end up rounded it out since there's less contact area.

    I had to have some work done on my 2015 Ford Fusion and was told my rear brakes had about 3mm left on them. They said that they would repair it for $475.00 but I told them I would wait a little while. I feel confident after watching your video to do it myself, but I want to change out the rotors as the originals are a little warped. My question is, what is that tool you had to screw the piston back in and where can I get one. The shop also said the car had to be put in a service brake mode...is this true and if so, how is this done without a computer? Thanks for any answers.

    ….so I tried this just as you laid out. The piston went in about 6 turns hen stopped. This let me about a 1/4 inch short on clearance for the new pads. I checked with a couple of mechanics, and they both said you MUST put the vehicle in "brake service mode" prior to retracting the piston or you will run into the very problem I did. I'm curious, does disconnecting the EPB plug make it so you do not have to put the vehicle into maintenance mode as it would no longer be electronically connected to the wiring system? Thanks. Peace, John

      John Hutchison Hi John. Actually as you will have noticed in the film, I did not put the car in maintenance mode. I simply used the tool mentioned (the brake cube tool) to spin the piston back into the caliper. I did NOT have the brake in the on position. I have it turned OFF in this video.

      At 0:57 the EPB did get disconnected, correct? Or did you just move the wires out of your way? Several other videos make it seem like the maintenance mode needs to happen or all hell could "brake" loose (pun intended) It would seem that if the EPB wiring was unplugged, there would be no chance of it engaging during the pad/rotor change process. Thanks! Peace, John

      John Hutchison sorry for the delayed response. At 0:57 I did just move the wire to the side as I stated. I did not disconnect the wire.

    Thank you. I would have tried to squeeze in the calipers and ruined them. Thanks again

    Do you have a video showing how to change the caliber

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  3 года назад

      I don’t. But you would need to follow the steps in this video to remove the caliper. After that, you need to remove the hydraulic brake line from the caliper and the electrical connectors. Then the caliper should be free. Install the new caliper and you then need to bleed the fluid to get the air out of the system.

    So I could only get the piston to go back in 6 or 8 turns , leaves me 1/4 inch short of getting new pads on. Any help.

    Why did you not add any grease where the brakes sit in the caliper bracket?

    Hi! May I know what is the brand of the cube piston tool you used to push the caliper back, please? I saw few of them on online market but not sure which one would fit Ford Fusion. Thanks in advance!

    you dont need to put the scanner on the car to turn off the parking brake and put it in service mode?

    • @WheresWaldo05
      @WheresWaldo05 2 года назад

      Nope. Turn key to on position but not actually atarting vehicle. Push gas pedal all the way to floor. Push down on electric brake button. Turn key off then back on within 5 seconds. Now service mode is engaged.

    So what exactly is that little special, notched tool Called which is used to turn the piston back into its place and what's the usual price for one of those? Also, is there any other tricks or Maybe Something else you could use instead of having to use that specific tool??? .

    What? I just did one on a 2014. this has an electric parking brake. you would have to reset the brakes back. otherwise you could damage the electric motor. I'm just wondering how you didn't damage that.

    You do not want to screw in the rear caliper piston on a ford car, ford says do not screw in caliper piston. On a Ford with an electric parking brake per Ford you need to place car in brake maintenance mode, a very simple process no special equipment required. Once you do that the rear caliper piston is easily compressed even by hand or with screwdriver or small pry bar. If you’re going to make a how to video you should at least look at the ford service manual for the car. Lot’s of RUclips videos showing how to put you electric parking brake car into brake maintenance mode.

      There is an electric service mode for the rear brake. Search it up on RUclips.

    just changed out my rear pads on 2017 fusion, theres no way to change pads and get clearance for new ones just turning in piston, its has to be pushed back in unless your changing out new pads for new pads

    I've seen a video that a guy had to cut some notches off the cube because they won't fit correctly on a 13 mkz.. These two are basically the same vehicle yours fit just fine. My question is will I have to do that on my 13 mkz or should I just use the maintenance mode?

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
