Yes you can connect. As shown in the video, similarly connect one pin of push button to GND and other pin to digital pin. You can use any pins starting from 2 to 12.

No , that will be different concept again, we have to send some PWM signals using RF transmitter from joystick. On the drone, receive it using one more RF receiver, and create control signals using Arduino. May be I can try in coming days.

16U2 chip doesn't have bootloader. That is the issue.

Your 16u2 chip doesn't have bootloader.
You need to burn bootloader on this 16u2.

Have you used same analog pin as per circuit?
