As a non sponsored review you should address their anti-consumer repair politics which is a BIG issue for someone who doesn't buy the new iteration every time it comes up.
As nice as the GT performs, the release of it has been unfortunately tainted by dangerous bugs, DOAs, anti-consumer behavior by FM, and a looming silence to the complaints of customers. Mine ghosted once, otherwise performs well. But I don't trust it, and I don't trust FM any longer. Which has made the enjoyment of a once life-changing device, entirely bittersweet. Their ridiculous warranty voiding criteria also shatters confidence in the product, and it breaks my heart.

A lot of truth in everything you've said. Have owned my OneWheel XR for a few years now and I can't believe a few 'major' consumer complaints have NEVER been addressed. Specifically the 'Nose-Dive' issue! I enjoy my OneWheel XR but its amazing to me this has NEVER been addressed by Future Motion. Unfortunately, most (including myself) learn the limitations of the board the hard way and being an early adopter of the XR there wasn't much information on nose-dives at the time. Although, I personally know the limitations of the board I have zero doubt most new purchasers are still learning the hard way.
I would probably get one if FM didn't join anti-consumer practices that are even worse than Apple's.
Well its polarizing topic. I use apple products and am fully aware I have to depend on apple with any repairs (recently replace with them out of warranty battery and am quite happy with their service) but wouldn’t want that with my car… now if Onewheel had more authorized centers other than the one I cali (maybe certified 3rd party shops) it would be acceptable - they don’t want to risk anything when it comes to say combustion of faulty batteries - but it’s ironic that in fear of bad press because of unauthorized mods… they created bad press. I was Wery cautious with FM ever since they didn’t allow for returns… in EU they’re mandatory, so there’s that, but on other hand sending it overseas for repair sounds ridiculous…
Anyone seeing a OneWheel GT for the first time here should know this is a $2200 device that intentionally bricks itself if you unplug the battery, and can only be brought back to life by shipping it back to the manufacturer’s single service center in California. If they go out of business this is literally a $2200 paperweight.
There is a huge uproar about this in the OW community, as well a genuinely surprising number of GTs arriving DOA, and a serious safety issue called "ghosting" which anyone interested the GT absolutely needs to look up before purchasing. FM has still not commented publicly on *any* of this even though the subreddit and Facebook group have since the launch of the GT become a steady stream of users reporting DOAs and serious board malfunctions.

The onewheel gt is ALSO a very fun ride made by a great company! Politics aside, it’s a very fun ride and I personally own one and have no issues! Not saying this is entirely false, but onewheel isn’t going out of business anytime soon. I think that right to repair should be instilled, but either way, it’s a fricking awesome product! They fixed the ghosting in the footpads if you buy a new board or ask for a new front footpad.

I heard!! Yea we had so much fun 😊 no issues on my board thankfully. Didn’t know about all this controversy. Ghosting sounds scary but from what I’ve heard it’s a very small percent that got affected. It’s still a fairly new/small company and I love what they are trying to do and the products they make 😊 never been paid by them but I just love onewheels. I hope everyone can just enjoy their boards 🙏🏻

@@j.h.514 no the percentage is small, and having proprietary parts isn’t anti consumer. The majority one Onewheel owners don’t feel the need to take their boards apart. There is a vocal minority that have issues with it and the ones that have an issue with it are canceling their orders or sending their gts back. If you aren’t interested in something you just don’t buy it. Simple as that. Just because they’ve been around for 8 years doesn’t mean they aren’t a small company. They still only have one facility. You’re reaching a lot here
Not addressing any of the malicous practices put in place by Future Motion is not great. I own a Pint and I did not know how bad they are trying prevent any repairs or modding. The GT is the pinnacle of this and having 1 service center in the world for 2-3k$ products is not acceptable. The time and money to send it back to California from EU is just mind boggling. Not to even mention about the ghosting issue which is actually dangerous and not properly being addressed.

You have a massive platform, and for good reason. I love the positive vibe your videos bring, but as many people have already done, I'd like to bring your attention to the problems with the Onewheel GT.
The GT is a very expensive product and for many of your viewers, will be something they have to save up for and commit to, and potentially have their children ride. I'm glad you haven't experienced problems, but there are currently dangerous ghosting problems where the board will shoot off on its own, potentially hitting someone with a 30lb missile, there are right-to-repair issues where Future Motion booby-trapped the board to corrupt its firmware if you ever try to service the board yourself.
I hope that in your future videos of onewheels that you balance the pros with your newfound knowledge of the issues. Thanks for the video and enjoy your board!

Love the vid, Matti but I really can't get behind FM any more - especially as a Canadian. If anything goes wrong with that thing, the only service center is in the USA and you're out the time + cost of shipping it for repair. I wish it wasn't the case since these things look like an awesome time AND filmmaking tool.

@@mattih yeah I definitely wasn’t implying you had anything to do with it, and if you do want to learn more they’ve had boards dead on arrival, ghosting issues, bricked batteries, and they’re deep in the right to repair right now. All of that being said, I did order one, maybe foolish maybe I’m shooting myself in the foot but they look like tremendous fun and I’ve wanted one for a while.

Man the big youtubers - intentionally or not - failing to cover the massive issues with the GT and FM in general is really gonna hurt our ability to spread the truth to the public at large.
Most laymen will just see what you guys post and think it's some amazing thing, when it's actually a DOA / Ghosting lottery with the most anti-consumer measures of any PEV. This is gonna be a mess.

The youtubers over 500k subs reviewing the onewheel are the biggest sellouts in the world. Even Linus Tech Tips with 14 MILLION subs made a video DO NOT BUY A ONEWHEEL. But this lying sellout Matti is encouraging people to get hurt on a flawed product. Modded XR's just won every single official onewheel race. No contest. CBXR and JWFFM is already more capable of the GT in torque because they have the exact same motor but you can use 84 volt in the CBXR so it owns the GT and doesn't ghost and is repairable. This Matti guy should have just gone into banking if he's gonna sell his soul like this. And has the nerve to deny knowing about any of FM's evil sabotaging practices when they've been doing it for years is such a straight up lie

Future Motion is anti-consumer, anti-right-to-repair, prefers to keep it’s customers ignorant, and makes customers pay significantly for any issues after their extremely limited warranty is expired. Until they change their behavior, I recommend skipping their products.
Love the “please notice me! I’m a good boy FM!” Videos vs the rebel’s that say hell no as long as the maker engages in anti consumer behavior.

I love and 100% respect the positive vibes you bring to all your content Matti, but given the issues with the GT (that can cause serious harm) and FM's policies, not to mention their silence on the matter, you really dropped the ball on this one. You say you were unaware of the issues and yet you're a huge OneWheel fan who spends a lot of time in the social media world, how could you have not seen the conversations? Perhaps you made the choice to not address the cons along with the pros to this piece of hardware because you didn't want to kill the vibe but when it comes to the risks of this, I think you missed a huge opportunity here and as a result compromised your integrity and authenticity. Yes, the OneWheel can be awesome fun, but don't let the fun blind you to the realities of the dangers of this and the seriously anti-consumer, anti-community practices of FM.

Matti, not only is my one wheel surprisingly always the funnest part of my day, but I’m a digital creator who also finds it to be probably the most advantageous part of my “pack“. Since getting savvy on it I’ve been able to stop worrying about carrying a gimbal and I can cover 10 times the amount of ground (and save tons of time) I used to cover working around the city for a day. Probably about 10 other uses I can’t think of at the moment, but great video and I hope to get to try one of these new upgraded onewheels soon!

Half the charm and feel of the XR was the «looks like you made it yourself», that industrial esthetic was spot on - the GT? looks like an expensive toy :/ And with all the lockouts on fixing things? Not a good look by FM, from everyones underdog darlings to «oh god, not you too guys» in just one product :/

how do you drop a video basically telling people to buy a GT when you can't service it yourself without sending it back to FM's ONLY service center, you cant replace the tire, you cant unplug the battery, its ghosting.

Don't get me wrong,I love Matti but he seems to just hype any product now. I ride an XR and would not buy a GT. He's saying how great its gonna be for trails without even takin it on trails. In my book his credibility has gone down cause any product he review is 110% amazing. Yes Gt is a good product, but id still recommend an XR to most.
Expensive Crap that can't be fixed unless shipped back to the company. No thanks. That's no better than a Walmart bicycle.

If anyone is considering a OneWheel, do yourself a favor and read the negative comments. Serious issues with right to repair, boards dead on arrival, the safety problem with boards ghosting, and of course them making mods impossible because it fries it's own firmware (bricking it) if you disconnect the battery or attempt other upgrades.
Every RUclipsr who owns a one wheel is always so passionate about it. I tried it once, almost died, and decided I would rather live... 😜😜😜

I've been wanting to get one since I saw Matti and PM riding these a couple of years ago and finally decided on the PintX but luckly I read about all the bad FM stuff before I pulled the trigger and now I won't be getting a OneWheel until they better themselves. Especially since I live in Sweden it would be hell WHEN (not IF, WHEN) I have to change the battery or tire. It's too bad because the product looks cool as hell

I no longer have any interest in their products after Louis Rossman showed how they are highly anti-right to repair under the ridiculous guise of‘safety’. Serializing batteries to controller and using odd sized tires is a money grab and planned obsolescence. Send money to the EFF avoid these products.

@@mattih Id say GT all the way , coming from a skateboard background, that concave is so important to the natural feel and smoothness of the board connecting to your feet.
Do your research on the onewheel models before you buy one, as it stands as much as the GT seems to be a viable option. it has a load of issues that has a lot of safety concerns.

I’m not buying one until they give us the Right to Repair! Do you know that if you unplug the battery it bricks the board? If you need a battery replacement you have to send it in because, even though it’s a plug and play replacement, One Wheel incorporated a software tweak to brick the board. So, even though you spend almost $3k you don’t own the board - THEY DO. If YOU owned the board you could modify and repair it. That company is crooked. Not to mention all the ghosting and other issues. Sorry Matti, I love helping you make money but THIS company is wrong; and you disappoint me that you don’t take a stand on something as important as Right to Repair. You have a platform and it would be nice to see you use it positively.

dude, I tried the pint for a few but without medical insurance I needed to get rid of it before I cost myself even more money...someday soon
Yeah Future Motion increased tire size just so when you need a change you gotta ship a 35 pound paper weight and in the process forcing a smaller tire side wall reduces the natural cushion provided by it and exposes your hub even closer to the road. You can't fix it, they won't sell you OEM spares, and of course if you do unplug the battery then it brick itself. These brand new boards are ghosting and Future Motion refuses to address the situation, but they'll make the news when a $2,200 brand new board ghost and drive itself into traffic causing an accident. I'm not in the US and how am I supposed to fix my board if Future Motion expect me to pay way more than what the board cost itself in shipping alone. Batteries and tires are perishable parts and the user should be allowed to change them, but even if you replace it with OEM parts in your own it'll still brick the device since you need special software to make the board accept the new parts.
