This is one of the best improvisations I ever heard. I'm usually not that fond of improvisations because they rarely match the qualility of the better compositions, but I feel this one is really good, even after hearing it several times.
It took me a long time to come to appreciate this. If you are unfamiliar with the plant chant "regina coeli", on which this improvisation was based, it would be really helpful to have it alongside this improvisation. The climax, I think, is at the final pedal statement of "regina coeli, laetare, alleluia", which was almost rendered in the original (major-ish) mode of the chant.
Sadly there is very little on the internet about him. There is one CD of liturgical improvs, one CD of various pieces, one german CD with two improvs and another one which was only a limited edition! I have the first three CDs mentioned. I will be putting up more recordings when I get my CDS back in september! If you want more detail just message me :-)
The fact that Devernay could get this much out of the organ is notable, considering that it was recorded before the early 90's restoration when the organ was in extremely poor condition.
Another great improvisation by Devernay. Thanks for posting!

Woooow... Really incredible final!
