Ive done this for years. Have my OG mk1 version and a newer mk2 model and ive owned several over the years. Whenever i sell, i always end up coming back. I use a filterbank on pretty much every track i make. I have seen a lot of videos where people are using it all wrong, like with the input cranked up all of the way. Pretty much anything past noon on the input knob is going to be heavily distorted, but it varies somewhat from unit to unit. Shermans are like vintage synths in a way, meaning that no two of them sound exactly the same. Im not sure if i have ever seen a video on youtube showcasing the midi capabilities of this thing but thats where some magic lies. You can really make the Sherman dance via midi / cv. It also just simply works great as a drum machine processor. You can take a pretty boring drum machine (like an Arturia Drumbrute) and run it through a Sherman and BOOM! Instantly cool. It just gives everything mojo.
Can you please make a video on how to use the Midi CC? I've been using it with Korg SQ 1 sequencer and it can do interesting things, as well (modular), but so curious about the CC's.
You should look into D-Passion from The Third Movement, you probably don't like the music but there is a lot of Sherman Filter bank in there, quite fascinating...
Very nice! Thanks for making this video. You said this is only with some of the newer models, correct? So if I bought a brand new one it would be able to do this sort of thing? Or are there certain models I should look for if I want one that can do this?
Yeah everything going into it gets coloured but with gentle input volumes you can maintain the original sound well enough if it’s just filtering you’re looking for
Excellent! I have bought one two weeks ago and I've been having a blast. Just one question: I usually use it with Ableton/Bitwig, and the output when I put it as an insert or send/return on the Daw is extremely low (when knob effect is turned to eff 100%). Have read that is a normal "issue" because of unit voltage, and it would be nice if someone knows how to solve it! It would be great to not increasing the output signal through the daw (20-30 dbs!!). Thanks!

Holy cow, I can definitely see how these sounds could be used in mech, guns, or a multitude of other things in game. Harmonically rich. Super cool!
I have already used some of them as part of designs for sci-fi machinery yeah :)
@@SoundsMick Sick!
ok, this is crazy. the sound samples are awesome!
Love the sound of the Sherman, great demonstration!
I wanted one of these forever. I never was able to get one. It was on my wish list for 15 years. I love that thing..
Brilliant video, I love the Sherman FIlterbank 2. May need to get another one soon.
Cool!! Have 2 Shermans, an old one and a new rack mounted. Quite a combo with the Arp 2600. FM in.
great video man
I never heard/of this thing, it's rugged as all fuck, I even like the package and stance, badass man, thank you
Great video. Thanks Howard Moon :)
👏👏👏👏😂
Hey, those were some smashing sounds, great work 😃👍
Hey Mathew! All of the current range have this feature 😀
thnx for the samples, this is rad!
Bro that was solid as hell! I'm glad this popped up on my feed! You're certainly a fresh character :) Peace and take care -- You have a new Sub
Awesome!! Thank you!!
very kind of you to share the sounds - thanks a lot
nice! would be cool to see a video about the FM in or amplitude modulation
Most Excellent.
great stuff
Wow, the new (ish) noise/fb loop is a great idea. Might need to look into a FB2, again...
Cool demo, thanks very much
Love my rack Sherman. It lets me do all kinds of nasty things to drum machines that I wouldn't be allowed to do to a real drummer.

Wild style! Cool overview, cheers guys 👍
Sherman into the Sherman😂

Imagine 4 Sherman’s in a column with 4 player mayhem 🤯
Herman, Sherman? Oh c’monman
This thing is freaking amazing. Where can I find it and how much?? Thanks for the info and intro😊
Here you go! :) signalsounds.com/sherman-filterbank-2-analogue-filter-tabletop
I'd like to try this with a Solar42
💙
I wish the overdrive could be bypassed, most people just overdrive everything and it sounds mushed

Hi, already found a solution? I’m struggling with the same problem
@@yoniglasius4737 Not really. My unit is on sale right now because of it.

leftfield, chemical brothers, underworld …. to name a few
phat planet is a drum loop through a filterbank
...Michael - link expired... any chance?
Lemme see, was working yesterday, maybe I've messed something up
It's just expired it seems, will get a new one from Michael and update the link on here
Sorted, give it another try now @AndyHolt72
@@signal-sounds beautiful - thank-you, love you guys, got all my Retrokits stuff from you.... always great service.... cheers
what kind of watch is that
apple watch probably
Odd design choice to put the inputs and outputs on the back.
Check out the compact version all the jacks are on the face of the unit (it’s a flat rectangle)
It's been that way for almost 30 years, don't see him changing it any time soon :)
Also the Double Rackmount version has all the connections on the front @@SoundsMick
english Jorb. lol.
I wish I had a wife 😔
