  • A 50th anniversary party and the new V8 supercharged 500R were celebrated on June 14th. This video shows event highlights, test boats and a run in the Performance 360 catamaran with twin 500R.
    The 500R is the new standard in high HP outboards, with incredible features including internal engine updates, a newly designed mid section "advanced racing core", and two new gearcases called R Drive and R Drive Sport built for 500+ horsepower, featuring a 1.5" prop shaft. Humidity calibration, a 6600 RPM range and more.
    Built for the ultra high performance sport catamaran market and the performance center console market, the 500R can be configured to work in many applications where 80+ MPH or 100+ MPH is the operating speed. 20" to 35" shaft lengths are available for any multiengine configuration.
    R Drive has a changeable nose cap for maximizing water intake, left or right camber for offsetting steering torque. The R Drive Sport has a longer skeg designed for 100+ MPH and a cambered skeg option for single engine use.

    Dad built Mach 1 and Envision boats in Monmouth Illinois for 38 years. Merc engine's were our bread and butter. He was with them since the Sea Star days before he bought the company. I have been blessed to have known Cotton Sims from Mercury racing and learned many things. Great video, brought back some great memories of Dad. Thanks

    My father built Mach 1 and Envision boats for 36 years in Monmouth Illinois. In 1986 we designed, prototyped and built this hull for a low profile,go fast cabin boat. He brought in Cotton Sims from Mercury Racing to put the boat through sea trials, Merc Racing is the best in the business and taught me everything I know from way back when. It's great to see there still kicking ass.

      @@Puzkajuzzi Too heavy and too expensive for anyone with a normal boat. Like I said how many different flavors of luxury yacht engines do we need from one company? Not everyone wants a boat that can float multiple 750lb engines and they already have several of those to choose from.. Can they not build us a 250hp engine with solid mounts, high rpm limit, sportmaster lower unit and a warranty that weighs about 420lbs? They have nothing for the 18-20ft performance boat crowd whatsoever, they just keep churning out "new" models of super heavy yacht engines 400, 450, 500, I think there is a 600 or something... Is anyone even going to notice a 50hp difference on a boat that huge? I bet not.

    • @Puzkajuzzi
      @Puzkajuzzi Год назад

      @@aj06bolt12r I don't think it is quite possible to build a 4-stroke outboard that has that much power and weight that low, atleast one that would be reliable and come with a warranty.
      However no other outboard manufacturers make such an engine either.
      It is a shame they don't make 2-strokes no more, i've heard good things from 200xs and 300xs optimaxes, powerful and very lightweight.
      On my 500kg boat I am running an old 225 Yamaha that weighs 190kg, burns gas a lot but still not worth upgrading to a modern one because there isn't really any options out there. Same power would be too heavy and same weight would be too powerless. So yeah I suppose you are right.

      @aj06bolt12r Год назад

      @@Puzkajuzzi I think its certainly possible... Probably just not projected to be as profitable for mother Merc.. Although like you said, noone else is making a suitable engine for boats like ours.. so if Merc did they would have the entire market to themselves.. But no... next year they will come out with an 800lb 550hp and everyone will do cartwheels for some reason.
