I think this portable sampler and live controller has great potential! To break the monotony of a loop, I, however, hope that they add a per step (or per group of steps) probability feature soon to Move and Note. Other than that, great work Ableton!
Maybe a software update adds dubbele the tracks just clicking the track button twice? Depends on the arm processor. It would also be a more direct competitor to the push itself.
I like how you guys solved the problem of inconvenient file transfer from move to ableton. For me, transferring files via Wi-Fi is much more convenient than do the same thing with a memory card in octatrack, for example.
Yeah big selling point. Akai doesn't do this because their entire Web experience is a disaster thanks to Inmusic who is stuck in mid 2000s Web design spread across 3 different Web sites each with a login I really don't see them running a nice Web file server soon. Roland seems to be slightly better maybe they will figure this out soon for their samplers
Totally! Or even recording audio track by track and trying to sync it. So many cool ideas just get buried in MV1, OP-Z, KOII without seeming the light of a day.
The reason I’m interested in this is because of my workflow and the time and space I have to get it done. IMO this will definitely help to get ideas started and put in a project. I work on my music production while on my lunch break at work. So this is definitely what I’ve been wanting.
the developers historically do not listen to their community. thats why the beats they use in their promos sound nothing like the hits that are made from ableton. theyre in their own world for better or worse
Not comparing it, just an example of a portable DAW. Akai is the closest given its OS and interface. A portable Ableton device with a touchscreen could easily be the best on the market.
I really wanted to love this, but it just seems a bit too limited. I do love the idea of simplifying the Push workflow but was hoping for a bit more. I think I'll pass and stick with the 378 other groove boxes I already own. I hope a lot of people like this and it encourages them to make something more capable in the same vein, or even add more to this in future.
@vrg-s1k thanks for your reply. I have a push 3, I just don’t use it much as the majority of my creative workflow is done on hardware. I use Ableton more for arrangement and mixing which is not really the strength of the Push. I really hope this grows into something with enough features that I’m convinced to pick one up though.
Finger drumming exercises made for move! Oh how I woulda loved this when I first started. What a great feature Ableton. That to me was the coolest part
Web sample syncing and exporting is a very big selling point. So many music hardware companies suck at making web apps/services. This one looks nice and clean. Using SD cards feels so quaint in 2024 but it's oddly still the standard. Every new music device should be configurable remotely from your laptop/phone IMO.
Looks like a fun device. Some great features, some conspicuous omissions…but you can’t please everyone. I’m excited to see how this develops through future software and hardware updates.
That's not a track count it's four separate MIDI channels, which I assume are polyphonic, so it's a full drum kit, full polyphonic synth, full sampler, and then whatever you want to add on top of that all at once. That's considerably less limited than a lot of stuff out there, even if I have my own complaints. Poor marketing on ableton's part to call them tracks. In the sense that a DAW has tracks that's true, but the entirety of a digitakt, could be a "track" on this devices, if I am understanding it properly.
As someone who uses note on the toilet everyday, this got me so hype tbh. I imagine this is not made for composing entire tracks on, but just to sketch ideas. I also think people are forgetting drum racks are basically 16 tracks in one, so you really don’t need more than four tracks to sketch those basic ideas. With the rate that Note is improving, this will definitely become more powerful with updates as well. I think it’s gonna be a useful toy and I’m excited to get mine!
Honestly despite people's complaints. I think this will train people on how to produce beats that are memorable and creative and original instead of just making something over produced which is what 70% of producers do
So much good going on here. Having said that, it’s just a shame that it’s limited to only 4 tracks. While I’m certain that is “good enough” for many, it’s kind of a dealbreaker for me IMHO. Even an additional 4 “MIDI tracks”, for controlling other instruments, would take this to another level. Perhaps this can be addressed by a future update.
I was sure I heard wrong when he said 4 tracks, and just thought "nah, can't be". What a shame, looks like a fun device, but that's a dealbreaker. EDIT: After thinking about it, it's not that bad since you can have drum racks with 16 different samples and you can play them all chromatically. That gives you more than Elektron's Model:Samples with 6 tracks, but only one sound per track (unless you use sample locks, but that's still more limited)
Quite amazed about what this can do, seems incredibly versatile. As for the limitation to 4 tracks, I understand the idea is to use this on the go as your sketch pad and the finalize things in Ableton.
I understand the criticisms but I am still very excited about this. I see this being very useful whenever traveling, just to have something portable to have fun with.
So many has commented on the small screen, and all the demos so far show that it cuts a lot of the sample and effect names. Seems like a small glitch in the design phase. It seems to work for the most part, but the sample/sound browser show the shortcomings of the display size. All in all, it does seem like a fun unit
The one thing I like over all the other groove boxes is the form factor. I try to fit my groove box in front of my qwerty keyboard and it's always too long vertically. So bravo.
Can you chop samples with it, like the simpler? If so it seems like a good alternative to the sp404mk2.. any ideas? Sp is not the best workflow for me as longtime ableton user
This seems really cool as a controller for Ableton and worth the price for even just that. But stand alone does seem unnecessarily limited but as a bonus feature that's cool
Wish there was more information immediately available about MIDI out functionality. Would love if the encoders could be custom mapped to a MIDI CC value for controlling other gear
how did they ship this without expandable storage 😂i swear these companies have no idea who uses their products. you want people to go outside and call this 'move' but you lock it a size thats less than most good kontakt libraries . well done lmao
This is Ableton latest rage. I guess it will be a surprise upgrade kit with a magic pocket for memory card. Just $999.99 😂 Seriously, most of the data is midi and presets. 64Gb is waaaay more than TE KOII 32Mb or Medieval 64Mb …. half staffed with non removable on board sounds 😎
How do you set a midi chennel to control external gear? The manual mentions nothing about this. Also, it specifically says it doesn't send out midi CC data. This severely limits its use as a hatdware controller. Is this something that may become a possibility with a firmware update? It would be really nice to be able to use the knobs to send CC out.

Dead simple with a short list of killer features(ableton integration, record memory callback, live sampling), tied to a huge audio brand. This is obviously a slam dunk product. Really curious how they're managing using the 32 pads for midi pitch live play. I've found that laying out pitches on a 4x8 grid sort of always hands you an unsatisfying layout when you go up in fourths, which feels obviously the best way to do it.
aside from the finger drumming practice which is pretty cool this is kind of a non starter for me. I just wish you guys would price the push lower so i could upgrade my push1
Ableton really needs a good hardware designer. Ableton Move is a good start. In fact, 8 years ago, I just hoped that Ableton Live could run independently on Push. This is not a difficult thing. It finally happened last year. Yes, it is Ableton Push3. It has very good interactive design. But the hardware architecture is very bad. The overheated processor consumes the battery quickly because it uses an x86 architecture processor. There is no type-c fast charging. But in Ableton Move, ARM processors and type-c interfaces are finally used. I hope to see ARM processors and type-c charging ports in the next update of Push.
Push is too big, Move is too small. I need something in the middle. I wish this Move would have a screen like Push 3 and would contain parameters and natural plugins + I want all of them to serve more for "song arrangement" part instead of live session.
Good concept, beautiful design!!!!.Perhaps some people think that four track is a limitation, i think that limitation is not be able of touch of hear a melody or beat that you have in you head when you are traveling or maybe far of you home or studio and you don't have you computer with you. MAN!!,THATS LIMITING!!!....A SLOW DEATH IF YOU ASK ME!!!😅
I’m just waiting for Ableton for iPad ala FL Studio Mobile - Notes (and Move) are great for a jam and inspiration but for true mobile music production just want Ableton on a tablet 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Ok, so the concept of this device is everything me and thousands of other producers have always wanted. A way to create ideas and seamlessly finish them in Live. Beautiful. But the issue is the 4 track limitation.. It’s just not enough. Not sure who at the company thought this was a good idea, I don’t know anyone who is ok with it(especially at the price). 8 tracks should be the minimum. And no, I don’t want to use the 64 channel samples. it messes with the workflow. If it wasn’t for this, I’d already have one on the way. Shame.. Ableton almost changed the game. Hope you can fix this in an update or I’ll wait for v2 in 5 years :’)
This isn't something I need; but it's interesting. If it had the mpe pads of the Push 3, I would buy it as an expressive midi controller (must also work with hardware synths), with the groovebox element as an extra.
I see there's a sample time of 4 minutes. I can import WAV files up to 100 MB. I just watched a video on how to chop long imported samples, where mute groups were mentioned. Drum pad volumes can be adjusted while holding down the relevant pad, using the master volume I see ADSR in the manual. 1. Is there pattern chaining? 2. Do I mute/solo drum pads in a drum kit individually in a live setting within session mode or drum sub-mode? 3. Which is simplest way to change timing of a one shot via micro steps with (11.4) Note Nudge in Note Mode or adding steps to a loop length? 4. What is the max SD card size?

99% of you complaining about the limited 4 tracks aren’t even making anything worth listening to even inside the box. 4 tracks is plenty for starting up solid ideas or drum patterns which you can then transfer to your DAW
@@0x2049 And all those can be resampled loops of the other tracks. People just complain about limitations because they are spoiled and they need an excuse why they don't make music. Oh, and some people are broke and need to "hate" something they can't even afford.
This should have 8 tracks, page A and Page B. I like how it is smaller than the push, but 4 tracks is too less. It looks like an interesting device to use for live playing. This should have cable based Ableton link to sync two or more of these devices so multiple people can jam together. Ableton is really trying to push and move the bar for live electronic music making.
It's not clear, can you monitor an audio source with fx, i mean it has some fx... But umm Could i have the other half of the split push you made :D? I mean literally it doesn't need to have any pads, just the upper part with full FX support :D?!?!?!?!? Im dying here, the size of this is perfect. But yea arm, prolly hard to do everything at once but... If this is the midi half of the push; i sure do hope there will be the audio half aswell. As the push is a bit too large. But the pad could be supplemented with a launchpad mini, or just use the jogwheel when pressed the upright button that opens the clip browser, or just use such thing as the whole pedalboard of a guitar... And umm, do these support battery banks? The price ain't half bad, all things considered but yea if this'd be x86, it'd prolly have a more grand suite of stuff but maybe this is to some a great notepad. Maybe i'll find one second hand, i mean obviously this here thing aint useless, could work great with an e-drum kit, or as the synth brain for a cheap piano like tht tstore dp-26, then using link having it integrate with the whole ecosystem..... Now i actually want one lol. You can record samples that are up to 240 seconds (four minutes) long. If you reach the time limit, recording will stop automatically. If an audio device is plugged into Move’s audio input or output, an option to turn monitoring on or off, represented by a headphones icon, becomes available in the Sampling menu. Press the wheel to choose between Monitoring Off and Monitoring On. Two of the following effects are also included in Track Presets: Audio Effect Icons on Move. Channel EQ - a basic equalizer. Chorus-Ensemble - a chorus effect with Chorus, Ensemble, and Vibrato modes. Delay - a delay effect with time and filter modulation. Dynamics - a combined compressor and EQ effect. Phaser-Flanger - a phaser effect with Doubler, Flanger, and Phaser modes. Redux - a bit crusher with jitter and filter modulation. Reverb - an algorithmic reverb that simulates how sounds echo in an acoustic space. Saturator - a waveshaping effect with several shaper curves and color modulation. So atleast it could work as a preamp, idk does it allow

Finally... recording directly to pads.
please make this happen with display of ableton push..just with 32 pads, speaker and nice battery.
Please please please add probability to step parameters on drum pads ❤
With resampling and the fact you can have a kit on a single track 4 tracks is not much of a limitation. You can think of them as groups on a sampler.
When can we get something like this for Logic 😢
4 tracks/£399 😳 Groundbreaking 🙄🥴
64 tracks. You can have 4 drum racks with 16 pads. If you know anything about Live you understand that you have 64 tracks.
@@0x2049 shut up, are you a bot? you are giving false information
@@0x2049we both know that’s not the same thing. Creative workarounds do not equal more tracks.
@@0x2049 did you know how much you can play simultaneously?
@@0x2049 a note lane is not a ‘track’
The 4 tracks already put this miles above the sp404mk2. The sp has no tracks and wack sequencer but nobody cared. Move is also cheaper lol
and you can actually think about move as 4 drum rack tracks so it's technically 64 tracks.
Ok, das beste ist das man damit Ableton steuern kann und die Sets dann weiter in Ableton bearbeiten kann 👏👍🏻🔥
This isn't something I need; but it's interesting. If it had the mpe pads of the Push 3, I would buy it as an expressive midi controller (must also work with hardware synths), with the groovebox element as an extra.
Can you update the I/O though ?
Thanks
Hi!
It isn't clear what you mean. Please could you elaborate on this a bit so we can better assist you?
I see there's a sample time of 4 minutes.
I can import WAV files up to 100 MB.
I just watched a video on how to chop long imported samples, where mute groups were mentioned.
Drum pad volumes can be adjusted while holding down the relevant pad, using the master volume
I see ADSR in the manual.
The Ableton Move Tutorial videos guide you through Move’s basic creative workflows - for a full overview of what Move can do, check out the User Manual: www.ableton.com/move/manual
@Ableton Thanks.
99% of you complaining about the limited 4 tracks aren’t even making anything worth listening to even inside the box. 4 tracks is plenty for starting up solid ideas or drum patterns which you can then transfer to your DAW
If you really think about it's 4 tracks that can be drum racks so in theory it's 64 tracks 😆 but people like to complain without watching any videos.
@@0x2049 And all those can be resampled loops of the other tracks. People just complain about limitations because they are spoiled and they need an excuse why they don't make music. Oh, and some people are broke and need to "hate" something they can't even afford.
i love my akai mpc 2 retro edition :D
got plans to include operator?
I like the concept but 4 tracks? It’s an interesting limitation.
Tbh I think it’s adequate for sketching new tracks out on the fly and then bringing them into the studio environment
In Ableton Note (iOS app) you have 8 track limit and thats a software… i wonder why?????
Back in my day thats all we had (end boomer talk)
@@PoboyMusic no you had more than 16 steps with acoustic instruments and a 4 track😂
Drums, Bass, Mid instrument, High instrument and thats it.
Beautiful device! The amount of design & knowledge in this product is astounding!
Are you a real person? If so, what other languages do you speak?
This should have 8 tracks, page A and Page B.
I like how it is smaller than the push, but 4 tracks is too less.
It looks like an interesting device to use for live playing.
This should have cable based Ableton link to sync two or more of these devices so multiple people can jam together.
Ableton is really trying to push and move the bar for live electronic music making.
I generally like the device, but can I use more than 16 steps?
yes, up to 256 if I am not mistaken.
@@0x2049 That's more than enough, thank you!
Two of the following effects are also included in Track Presets:
Audio Effect Icons on Move.
