I was a kid during the street skating surge and was the only freestyle skater out of all my friends. So glad to see freestyle alive and gaining more popularity
Dude this was awesome. As a new rider I'm trying to figure out what to do and how to practice more stability. Cant wait to go tomorrow to some courts and try these out. Keep these coming they will get views I can sense it :)
Monster walks are the hardest now I know cause I'm on the court today tik taks where not too hard but, tiring as fuck though:) But for real monster walks feel like I'm going to dive and smash my face. Finding that balance point is hella hard right now. But practice makes perfect thanks again mike!!
"Slow is smooth is fast." Love it. You distilled something that I've found so important for coaching mountain bikers. Thanks for the superb tutorial. You sneak all 6 of the fundamental skills into tricks that are fun and safe for beginners. This is a great study in skills-based coaching. I look forward to playing with these until I feel like I'm ready for more!
Ah thank you! The slow is smooth is fast stuff is advice from a former SEAL that I used to make coffee for 😁 I’ll take no credit for any of that. I hope the trick tips help. There are more specific trick tips on the @waltzskateboarding channel
I basically sponsored my little brother for years when he was younger. I've always been intrigued by the entire skateboard culture, especially when I was a kid. That was back in the 70s. I'm 53 now and for some odd reason, I'm wanting to learn to skate. However, not sure it's such a great idea.
@@mike_osterman1 Thanks! I grew up on guys like Alva so I carried that over to getting my lil brother involved in the 90s. When I see Alva still skating, it’s inspiring.
Mike, you're way too legendary to only have 32k subs, we need to bump those numbers up. 1st saw you on braille, absolutely amazing. haven't skated in at least a decade but watching some of the stuff you do really makes me want to get a board again. keep doing you, king. let me know if there's anything you need.
I’ve pushed mongo on a longboard for years and wanted to start learning to skateboard recently, so I’ve been practicing regular pushing and tic-tacs in my garage a bit. I figured out how to do the monster walk in my first week, and made the mistake of trying to do it by spinning my shoulders backwards instead of forwards. Fell flat on my left hip but it wasn’t that bad, some of this freestyle stuff like the space walk honestly feels more daunting to me than grinding a rail that passes the sack-test or doing simple flip tricks lol. I’ll learn it all eventually though B), 23 really doesn’t feel like a bad time to start for me
Finally got into 3/4 of a setup! Lets see whats all the Hype is about , I do have a handful of freestyle tricks , using a Popsicle set up shaved and flush with the Axle bolts .I was advised that its easier with these set ups. Just waiting on the special trucks .
How tight of trucks do you use when doing freestyle? I got back on my skate for the first time in almost 20 years this week and want to learn a little freestyle. When I'm learning street atm I have fairly loose trucks,is that bad for freestyle?
Ive got a decomposed primo desiderio orange 75 in the cart….. I know that you have a business to run, and would prefer me buy one of your boards with the hand and eye on it…. But real talk I’m on a budget and very impatient…. Finding completes for these types of boards is VERY difficult. I know nothing about them, but want to know EVERYTHING. I refuse to go to my grave before learning how to pogo, dance in rail stance, and primo slide. Is decomposed a legit company ? Or is there a lot of quality difference that makes it better for me wait for you guys to get completes in? 🤞 if so I really hope to see one without that goofy looking hand/eye thing. No offense, but I hate it…. Reminds me of that creepy fucker from pans labyrinth who eats fairy’s and moves like a forgotten nursing home ward.
You can learn freestyle on a street skate no problem. You might want to get freestyle wheels once you start learning primo stand, but the board itself will be fine :)
Can you do these on a traditional popsicle deck shape what's the actual benefits of using your shape vs my traditional popsicle deck shape seriously asking I'm china get into freestyle skateboarding
awhaha dude the monster walk on a 8' street board is tough :'DD esp cus im like 4'11 basically doing a split when putting feet on both tail and nose ahaha
Hey, I just ordered some stuff from waltz and I was wondering if there’s going to be any delays with the shipping? I haven’t gotten anymore notifications since the confirmation email
Do it! I'm mostly a park skater, but I still try and incorporate freestyle tricks and footwork into my lines. It adds variety and helps make your style unique among those around you.
Thanks Mike! For those who prefer things a bit more British and think feet shouldn't touch the ground at any point, try www.freestyletricktips.com Tony Gale and Mike Osterman are the premium addresses for freestyle skateboarding technique, check out their individual strengths and train hard and maybe you too can lose to a Japanese kid at a contest someday :D
This guy is so underrated and overshadowed by bigger skate channels, but I haven't seen anyone focus on freestyle tips like he does, respect
Agreed. Osterman does essentially the best freestyle trick tips anywhere out there.

You’ll definitely have the weigh the risks but I love it. Freestyle involves a lot less risk and has a wonderful community

Awesome Mike, love that you are bringing back the trick tips and getting more info than your first series which is still dope. Keep dancing 🤙
I'm just beginning freestyle. Thx man

This guy is so underated
So cool the end clip😮😮
Omg i loved how you explained the tic-tacs leading into space walks... like "YeEeEee this is eaaasy" while extremely overdoing the tic-tacs xD
Thank you! I'm hoping to try this when the weather clears up here in Ireland.

I really like your videos!
I started skateboarding like a month ago and i want to be able to do this tricks and some other freestyle sruff!
Good work

What's the version of walk Called where you don't change the direction you pivot. Like the monster walk but you always turn frontside or backside?
End-overs! I will be talking about those in a future episode
Came a little late but still loved the video man!
I visited Waltz Skateboarding today to shop for a complete and was very sad to only see the parts to the boards. Do you not sell completes?
We are getting completes in very soon!

Hey Mike just a quick question..I have a street skateboard can I learn freestyle in a street skateboard?

Nice & Thanks :)
What éS shoes are those?
And will Waltz skateboards be available to buy in UK?
Accel slims! And we are working on it! Ask your local or your favorite online retailer to carry Waltz
@@mike_osterman1 Aha, knew it! I also have Accel Slims!
Hey man when will the whale tail completes be back in stock?
Soon! Will be building more ASAP so that they are available for everyone on our site
Mike Osterman Awesome! Can’t wait to order mine thanks!
awhaha dude the monster walk on a 8' street board is tough :'DD esp cus im like 4'11 basically doing a split when putting feet on both tail and nose ahaha
That has more to do with your board’s wheel base than your board’s width. You might find it easier on a freestyle board
@@mike_osterman1 yeah ... want to get one next year but so far... have to work with what i have heh
Where did you get that shirt?!?!?!
Chinatown Market! I had to have it 😂
Hey, I just ordered some stuff from waltz and I was wondering if there’s going to be any delays with the shipping? I haven’t gotten anymore notifications since the confirmation email
Hey, do me a favor and shoot me an email with your order # when you have a chance. I’ll get it all straightened out for you
@@mike_osterman1 i just like the fact you answered :)
I just started skating - is it normal for me to be very afraid to lift my front foot? I’m scared of slipping backwards..
Yes it is normal. Just ride for fun and to learn how to balance
I want to start free style skateboarding even though I am a streetskater
Do it! I'm mostly a park skater, but I still try and incorporate freestyle tricks and footwork into my lines. It adds variety and helps make your style unique among those around you.

*stealing your tips for longboarding
I probably would die if I go on the shorter board because I am used to the heavy longboard😂
Hah! Steal away! Have fun
Not one dislike... sure not crazy views but regardless RUclips rules say u should have 6 or 7
