- One of Canada's largest furniture companies has announced plans to build thousands of new homes in Toronto's north end. Melissa Duggan speaks with Leons Canada CEO, Mike Walsh.
I really appreciate how relatable this guy is. He seems very nervous to be on TV.
I assume these homes will come with a furniture and appliance package. Don't pay 'til May!
Man you could tell with how nervous he was with the quiver in his breath. He handled that really well. I would of been um a train like um wreck and and um Sweating um profusely.
And stumbling over your words.....you would still be more understood and tolerated than Trudeau. Um,ah,er,uh. Funny how a cheap furniture retailer can step up to solve a housing problem that government refuses to acknowledge.
@@Siriuschaos1 not sure how much they will actually be able to do and what affordable means to them is still unknown but it's a start. Sears did it before with their catolog homes which didn't workout to well. Housing is just to up and down and many factors the can effect building, time, and price. You can take to much away for red tape because things still need to be build at the highest quality and not like China where the houses and buildings collapse it's all a balancing act.
I actually like this idea putting back into the community that built you.
Let's all praise Leon's for Maximizing shareholder value.
Are they selling these, or just building and renting..?
How is a private company able to do this but not the government?
They are partnering with the government genius.😂😂
Have you not realized the government is useless and incompetent yet?
What a dumb comment. A private company with a long track record of generating profits versus career-politicians with a history of operating ineffective programs and losing massive amounts of money while doing so. Gee, what a mystery.
My guess is that unlike a politician that takes bribes from their millionaire/billionaire friends, leons will just do the job.
99.9% of all homes are already built by private companies. What are you talking about?
Very good plans for us. Thank you
when will that be finished? in 10 years? or 15 years? 4000 is a big number
A few years with developers. Probably have the hi rises up quickly to generate the most revenue. they they will build the houses. they're not going to mess around private company.
About time.
who edits your videos? the audi is always jaced up and one sided only
Is he ok?
I'm sure many Canadians will return the favour by making Leon's their furniture/appliance go to. I actually like this is CEO, there is no lying in him (at the moment).
Great move by Leon's! There is a huge property and a lot of it is just a big unproductive field.
Those homes will be spoken for by foreigners before they are even built.
blaming immigrants for the housing crisis is naive and racist. Our country was built on immigrants. Blame the politicians (from all parties and all levels) that created this mess. Blaming immigrants is what our politicians want you to do to deflect away from their own incompetent failures.
@@pacman3556 No, our country was built by settlers. You cannot be an immigrant in a country that does not exist. Increase the number of people looking for housing will increase the cost. Supply and demand economics 101. In your opinion it's racist. You're just saying that because I'm white. Anti-racist is just code for anti-white.
"LEONS WEEKEND SALE! EVERYTHING MUST GO! HOUSES FOR 85% OFF!"
"Oh that was for the one old model thats cut up, dinged up, and doesnt work"
They smell a recession in the furniture biz no one wants to pay $8500 for a microfibre love seat so they are buying real estate as it’s a safe investment during the rough times
Furniture? You would need to earn 850 000 dollars a year to be able to buy furniture in this economy. In fact they should be building pup tents. Not houses. Money's about to stop working.
Well most Canadian homes are just Prefab from the USA anyways... so?
Build and RENT.. NOT sell.. see how it works in Canada now..
Home buyers won’t have to pay for 30 months! And no money down.
Amazing how some people seem to believe that spending all ones money on rent or housing leaving next to nothing for disposable income will somehow grow the economy. Oh well, if you want to be house poor and see a stagnant economy or worse for middle class and below, thats your choice
so if you don't pay rent or a mortgage where are you going to live? Not everyone can live for free in their mommy's basement for their entire life like you.
I've seen this story before... Owned by the corporations eh ?
Brand new furnished homes for rent... nice! 😂
Canada just woke up after 2 centuries needs population .
4000 homes for immigrants

If their furniture quality speaks to anything… could you imagine their home quality? No thanks
Free homes😂😂😂😂
Will all go to Trudeau's record immigrants and refugees that caused this mess

According to experts, Toronto is short 170'000 affordable homes. I have a theory that the reason housing is in such shortfall, and are rents so high is that the elected members of both city and provincial governments are too cozy with property rental REITS and other private investors who profit from the situation. There is no incentive to build what people need, when you can keep the demand high and gouge renters. They protect their bottom dollar and their cushy positions in local governance. Leon's saw an opportunity. This is not only clever, it's needed. I hope Leon's partners with quality contractors and it successful. Canadians need good affordable homes, but there is so much corruption and special interests making it difficult for builders to build. These new homes will create jobs, make new communities, generate taxes and help to reduce the cutthroat rental market, and yes it's already 10 years overdue. Lazy and corrupt politicians have seen to this.
It's not about making a home genius it's about paying for it it's about affording it you can make as much as homes as you want but if people have no money those home will be empty!!!!!!!
