Video Description:
Today was an adventure day as we drove 90 minutes from Belize City to Barton Creek, then onwards to Spanish Lookout searching for Amish and Mennonite communities.
I’ll be honest, it was tough to find residents who would talk with me on camera. But I did enjoy the challenge, and the whole day was impactful and I gained a very good look into the lives of the Mennonites and Amish community here in Belize.

Very beautiful interesting videos 👏👏👏👏🇧🇿🇧🇿🇧🇿💯🔥
The Mennonites' work ethic is on another level. I once saw a 15-year old boy take a combine harvester apart, clean all the parts and put the whole thing back together again in 13 hours without taking a break. They take the line 'idleness is the enemy of the soul' quite literally.
The gangs of Belize can probably learn a lot from these groups as they stated chruch every Sunday and meetings in the week that ppl want to actually attend
I agree!
All the way from hargeisa somaliland
Their views of community...if we would all be so willing to help each other..what a wonderful world.
Yup 1 agree.. nice person.. nice people and work hard...
That only works when you actually have common values.
Great respect for the Mennonites. Love this video. Thanks Crist
The Omish and Mennonite community choose to live in a very unique way in this day and age. I live close to an Omish community East of Toronto. It amazes me how they can build a house or barn in no time and its very refreshing to see how they all pull together to sustain their way of living. I was so surprised to see this in Belize. Pretty cool. Great video.
Heck let's do part #2 Secretive Mennonite Community. Thumb's up!!
I learned a lot, thanks. It did make sense to me that a Mennonite and Amish married couple could go to the same church because of how they practice a more decentralized form of worship. Also I'm planning to move to SE Asia next year and would prefer to dress more like Mennonite and Amish do and so it was interesting to see them in a hot climate.
One of the key aspects is no electricity, so no outside bad influences.
Just love your visit with that elder guy in the community, such wisdom, so articulate.... I was apart of that community that he spoke about in Belize, all change gradually after independence in 1981... very sad... 💕💕🙏🏼
It is a relief to see something different. Belizean could learn a lot from the Mennonites.
hahahahha
I agree with your comment's argument about this, we have to diversify our knowledge and work for life. But agriculture is one of the important branches of life because human beings definitely want to eat. So it is not wrong for us to tell the community to try to build an agricultural empire.
There so talented mi husband gat his car engine rebuild back there last year for $1400 ❤
Haha the Mennonite’s are well known for smuggling. Seems odd the narco jets always land on Mennonite farms. If you didn’t know now you now lol
Like what? How to launder money? How to land drug plane?
Some Amish will also allow you to record as long as no camera..had no idea Belize has such a large amount of communities/population...interesting..
Thank you for taking us alongside
Chris i personally love your videos, but these people are very racist if u were a black man u would see the different the people of spanish lookout are that way i wish i had vide of a black man that went to their comunity u would see the different.
Best video chris 🇯🇲 very interesting.....
Awesome video Chris. Very informative. Looking forward to your next video. You make the world a better place. Thank you so much...keep them coming
It looks like you are in Barton Creek ( or lower Barton Creek). We are New Yorkers that lived on that road for five years. We stayed until my husband developed 4 th stage cancer. Spanish Lookout is north of Barton Creek. We had many friends there!
Chris you are doing good job to show us the world, may God bless you
Wooow this is awesome the bible say my people perish for lack of Knowledge. Knowledge help us gain important information to continue to Love each other God is awesome Mr. Chris I am a Belizean you I learn what not even in school we were thought that .
Chris make sure you see the Blue Hole beside Belmopan it’s beautiful.
Keep up the good work and your way too
You're so versatile and you meet people whee they are and not where they come from or going through....As a black woman I've always been interested in them and to see how they unite and join in on good food and fun is so refreshing....We the people in the world needs love like this 🙏💞 Chris please continue to show us behind the scenes where too many content creators won't go and the Amish people are genuinely nice so watch out Chris it's contagious but you're already filled with sugar and spice I'm rooting for you 🙏💞💞
Interesting. No mixing of the races.
I love to see thing like this it makes your culture so rich
I love living in Spanish Lookout
I remember going to corazol town in Belize where my mom is from and I seen them walking through and I was like wth.
Chris loved all your Belize video's. But his is the one i've been waiting for. Check out Caye Caulker next. Belize people are so happy .We will be back in Belize this June
I will be in Caye Caulker and San Pedro in a couple days to film. Thanks for watching!
@@ChrisMustList I know a few people there that get you to see some real stories happy & background of the island life.
@@vincelouden1339 Yes, i'd love to meet-up with locals that have stories. If you have IG add me @chrismustlist and any info would be great! Thanks
@@ChrisMustList i don't have IG. I have FB & WhatsApp though
the amish don’t like to take their pictures. they are kind people, they are private people.
Yes I am very aware.
Thank you Chris Must List for this educational video.
you need to go to orange walk town witch we call Rambo town belize where the original tacos is born
I am no longer in Belize.
Amen! He is a wise man to respond that God is the answer. GOD IS THE ANSWER!!!!
Hey Chris you should visit the Stann Creek district. It's the home of the beautiful Garifuna culture of Belize. They have interesting dances like Wanaragua/Jankunu, delicious food, and music like punta & paranda. The best places to experience the Garifuna culture would be Dangriga, Hopkins Village, & Placencia.
Enjoyable watch
Everyday I look forward to a new "Chris Must List"
Didnt know about the Mennonite alrho i knew about the Amish
Hey Chris I was born and raised in Spanish Lookout Belize. I currently live in London Ontario and if you want more information about Belize or the people and the differences in the religious people I'd be happy to chat about that
Very interesting!!!!
If only modern society had the "community" benefits of this culture, without the religion and the greed.
There are some people who say nothing is for free in this world...
There is plenty, and in saying so the generosity from those of us who would rather contribute to society is most of the time exploited to make a lazy person wealthy.
Help your neighbour.
Help them build a shed, help them build a garden. Interact.
As someone who has been a computer nerd for over 30 years, and from a time when only intelligent folk could access the internet, it's plain obvious that social image online is destroying the very fabric of humanity.
Please, when's the last time you helped someone without expectations. When is the last time you helped a fellow human being?
We have a lot to learn from these people... Only we do not need the nonsense religion that installs fear. We just need genuine human beings who are kind of their free will and not out of fear of excommunication or damnation.
Be kind to your neighbour, without wanting something in return.
They are such beautiful people with such a beautiful work ethic. They truly enrich every country they are in. They make everything better.
Amish.
Man grow a beard when they get married , at one time the Amish Would not wear buttons where the minimized wood and the minimized would take a vehicle or even have vehicles. Where Amish would always have horse-and-buggy. They don't drive vehicles, but I think that may be changing. I'm not sure haven't been around there for some time.
I grew up in Barton Creek thanks for making this video
Peaceful and productive people. It was a very interesting and educational video. Appreciate your time and wisdom but most of all your approach and clean and pure but honesty that made them comfortable and to open up, which in turn is very beneficial for us Belizeans a better pattern of how to live with one another and to appreciate life, birds etc but with the foundation and guidance from God. My ten year old daughter was the one who introduced me to your channel Chris. I'm now locked in as your style and approach makes people welcome you. Enjoy our lovely country 🇧🇿 Belize 🙌
The misunderstanding about Mennonites is theyre not oldfasion as amish. They use modern equipment. As soon as u reach their place u see beautiful farms well mentained. Im from holland and our farmers are almost the same as the Mennonites in belize. I can understand them also if they talk slow. Just met a couple of them in mexico. They went to merida to go to the hospital for their father. I dont think amish would use modern hospital. Ive seen Mennonite kids with dirtbikes also.
They are easily the hardest working tribe in Belize, a lot can be learned from their work ethic. (But won't)
You have the progressive Mennonite which are located in Spanish look out and blue creek, the conservative Mennonite which are in ship yard little Belize and you have the Amish Mennonite like the ones from Barton creek and agua vida heading down on the southern high way of Belize
The Amish speak old dutch the ones in Spanish look out speak English and German and are from canada.its mostly because of the migration.ship yard Mennonite speak German and Spanish since they had migrated from Chihuahua Mexico
We missed each other by one day! I hope you enjoyed Spanish Lookout! :)
It was great, and completely different way of life than Belize City.
Yup totaly difrend...
I am leaning more through you... its wonderful world love it
A lot of them grow up extremely poor. I know a few that left Belize
Awesome video. Will keep watching.
Go Chris, GO !🤙🏻😎
This Video is absolutely amazing !!!
I am curious as to how these groups were afforded their land which is rich and fertile, while blacks and native live in horrendous conditions. Why haven’t the government provide land to the people who are descendants of slavery and colonialism? No offense to the Mennonites, everyone deserve a fair chance and am happy they can thrive in a new community. However, indigenous peoples and the black communities have been neglected and are underrepresented. It is a sad affair in the world where the ones that thrive get respect. Maybe there could be a collaboration between mennonites and other groups regarding farming and living off the land. We can only truly serve when we learn that we are all the same and some of us just need an opportunity in order to thrive.
These groups don't enter a country empty handed. They come with money, and buy the land. But I agree with what your statement is. Everyone deserves a fighting chance.
@Cece John When Mennonite community travel or moved to other countries they buy land nothing is given to them for free. They are very hard working people. Thanks to the Mennonite community we have chicken, meat , vegetables including rice and beans cheese , milk etc etc.
To most belizeans the government provides land some are least land and gives them opportunity to buy over the years they have to pay the taxes also. Sadly I know a few also that they just don't care and sell the land either they go to the USA or just spend the money foolish. Very rare they would harvest the land . I lived in Corozal and the government gives a lot of land to families that need. Also in Belize watch the news few families received houses. Remember Belize is a lot more than what Chris videos shows. Chris mentions it at the beginning of his videos.
We have all these Spanish speaking villages surrounding Spanish Lookout that are better off than most of the rest of the country because they learn how to do some highly specialized and technical jobs while working in the community and later they start their own companies and services for the Belizean people.
@@WhereRUMaria good to know. It sounds like a lot of people are stuck in a form of mental slavery. That is a hard cycle to break. We must send them love and light and hope they will figure things out before they leave this world 🌎
Beautiful video
This is pretty cool. My mom’s side of the family are Mennonite from Chechnya
My wife’s family is from Moravia, Chechnya and they fled to Germany with the Mennonites and also came to America through PA with the Moravians and settled my area of Winston-Salem NC.
The Mennonites community in Belize central america migrated from Russia through Germany then to Mexico and ended up in Belize long ago!!✌🏽🙏🌎🇧🇿
If forget to include Canada also before their stop in Mexico also
U still missed the best places inorange walk blue creek and shipyard...not to talk but the blue creek community has d better roads and streets in Belize...and its not government that do their roads it's them. That's y most of the times goverment has no voice in their community unless they are breaking the law...
Shipyard was over 4 hours away so I didn't exactly just miss it. I was limited for time, but thank you for your feedback.
And not to forget these menonites in. The north here do their own machinery, mechanism and engineering....really felt bad....nothing like the north...your missing the best place of the whole Belize..orange walk and corozal
@@inessantos733 I agree with you. Those Mennonite are more modern. We made videos in Little Belize we were hosted by a beautiful family Jacobo and his family invited us to stay with them for a week. We will go back and do it.
Shipyard is a desert. They cut down every single tree. And Blue Creek is a tiny backwater hamlet.
Sorry just had to shred on Mennonites in the North because I'm from Spanish Lookout in the most beautiful district of Cayo.
I lived in Belize for 10 years 2 -3 years in bartin Creek. The rest of the time behind Spanishlook
Strong soul 💪🔥 period 🧠❤
Coolest video yet, more if possible
After going grocery shopping in Spanish Lookout back in 2018. I had the same question.
God bless the Amish and Mennonites globally
🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
Isn"t the difference between Amish and Mennonites thaa Amish allow for private property and Mennonites do have a common purse, right???
Pretty schnazzy glasses
Beautiful video
What I would love to know is,in Canada we own our houses but we don't own the land because we have to pay land taxes...does Mennonites pay land tax in Belize?
I'm living in Spanish Lookout Community . Yes, we pay taxes to the government, plus taxes for our community.
@@ikythiessen2140 Oh,WOW thanks,God Bless 🙏
The community pays the land tax to the government so we just need to pay the community for that plus a little extra for the community. Which enables us to have these awesome paved roads that most of Belize doesn't have.
@@charlieplett I only wish all Government take a page out of your Community procedures...the world would be a lot better...🙏
Here's the difference between the mennonites here in bze....one group cannot wear jeans and the other group only wears jeans :D _that's how I see it anyways
It’s so refreshing to see how humble these people are, appreciate the great content please don’t ever stop uploading, your channel has become one of my top 3 channels to tune into, very knowledgeable and overall jus love the raw content!!! 🙏🏾❤️🫡
I wish you had gone to see how the Mennonites in Spanish look out contributes to our economy here in Belize.especially the affordable houses they build .
Cool
I would be interested in the book you purchased..can you direct me as to where I can obtain on?
I saw a Mennonite at the bus station in Belize.
Yay, good for you. Now there's even one replying to your comment, lol.
Great Piece Chris…U got lucky with those whom you were able to interview today…keep it Coming. Poncho C Saint
someone should mix the auctioneer at 20.00 mins into a song. that guy had a groovy flow
lsure did. This srgment was so so interesting. Thanks I must visit next time I visit my country of origin
The main difference between the Mennonites a the Amish is that the Mennonites can eat out of styrofoam and the Amish cannot.
Easy to tell the difference between the two Mennonites will be driving 😂😂😂😂😂
These are such wonderful people to meet. I really am considering living in Belize.
A lot of people are fooled of the way by which they live byt i am not impressed u need to go behind the schene to see the real them.
Every new day is like school..Today,I learnt something else.Thank you Chris for this achievement. Gob bless them all in this community 🙏.
I saw another video on the Mennonites in Belize from six years ago. There are different Mennonite communities there. Some do use computers and ride motor bikes etc... My issues with them are the cyclical incest practices, separatism in other people's countries, and racism. These things, they claim, are sanctioned by the bible.
Well i've seen Black and Hispanic Mennonites in Belize so not sure how much reliability i give to your comment. Fyi lots of cultures and groups maintain cohesion, the Chinese also keep to themselves. The main difference is the Mennonites have a legal contract with the government that allows them an extent of self governance, they had the same thing in both Canada and Mexico. The reason many left Canada for Mexico is because Canada reneged on the legal contract similarly to how they reneged on the contracts with the native Canadians.
@@exodusfamilybelize My comment doesn't require your reliability stamp of approval. In the video I saw, which is still on RUclips, one of the Mennonite men said they do not intermingle with the people of Belize.
And as for government contracts, why should any country give the Mennonites any while many of the native residents are living in poverty? Canada, Mexico, Belize are not obligated to Mennonites who chose to leave their own country and settle in other people's countries.
@@exodusfamilybelize Also, Chinese are notorious for their parasitic behavior. Taking money out of communities and no contribution.
@@ahwakewellnessBecause before the Mennonites there was no industry and no farming in Belize. And none of the locals wanted to work on a farm. George Price, the then Prime Minister actually begged us to move here to help boost the economy out of poverty.
As for intermingling, cultures have a hard time merging together and can cause lots of divorces or other problems due to not understanding each others needs and emotions. Therefore it's best to keep a distance.
@@ahwakewellness Complaining about racism then calling Chinese " parasitic". The irony is nauseating.
1 community that always takes care of customs and all social activities. Successfully educating generations of children in life and religion.
Thank you for everything you do for the people of Belize chris much love and respects I know you can't help all but you did your best for some of them again much respects and blessings
Thank you Chris! This was such wonderful and informative video with what you were able share. I really enjoyed this video!
Cool chris
How does one know when they have an auction? Did you mention where this is?
Hey Chris. Great content. Belize has a lot to offer, different cultures to learn about. Should definitely check out the Mayan culture.
I missed the premiere! Thank you for doing this video, I can probably speak for a bunch of us in chat when I say we appreciate this rabbit hole being explored
I grew up in Belize in the minonittes 3 years ago I left
Knowledge is wealth, thank you Chris for this video keep learning and posting, one love from Toronto 🇨🇦
It's amazing what you do Chris.I see things I've never seen before.Thank you for that
Hi Chris, nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing
Nice that I found your channell. I am belizean. Currently living in London Ontario. And my wife is one of them. She was from pine Hill Mennonite community. I stole her 😏😏 and known we are happily married with 3 biutiful kids
Amazing! Thanks for watching.
Only country where English is first then spanish
Do Amish and Mennonites read the Bible? What is a typical diet? What are the sources of power used for cooking and running a household since you actually are living "off-grid"?
Yes the read the bible, everything else I don't have answers to. This video was filmed a week ago.
Richard a good friend of mine and very dang good welder
Everyone here is so quick to say good things yet not a word about how these Amish & Mennonites are absolutely destroying the rain forests in these countries by clear cutting. What they are doing is absolutely devastating to that environment and downright disrespectful to the locals and these countries as a whole.
My videos are dairies of my day rather than a documentary about a whole moment like Amish and Mennonites.
Love your videos bro. You did Belize Good 🇱🇦✅💯⭐️💚
I was just wondering, do they ever hold animal or livestock auctions in Belize. It will be fun to see one of those on your channel. Do Mennonites or Amish breed goats??
Yes they do. Ull have to go to belmopan at the "showground" they have farmers market. Mabybother places to but im not into farming as yet. I'm from the city.
I loved this day; I learned so much as well..Thank you Chris!
