    Video Description:
Today was an adventure day as we drove 90 minutes from Belize City to Barton Creek, then onwards to Spanish Lookout searching for Amish and Mennonite communities.
I’ll be honest, it was tough to find residents who would talk with me on camera. But I did enjoy the challenge, and the whole day was impactful and I gained a very good look into the lives of the Mennonites and Amish community here in Belize.

The Mennonites' work ethic is on another level. I once saw a 15-year old boy take a combine harvester apart, clean all the parts and put the whole thing back together again in 13 hours without taking a break. They take the line 'idleness is the enemy of the soul' quite literally.

The Omish and Mennonite community choose to live in a very unique way in this day and age. I live close to an Omish community East of Toronto. It amazes me how they can build a house or barn in no time and its very refreshing to see how they all pull together to sustain their way of living. I was so surprised to see this in Belize. Pretty cool. Great video.

I learned a lot, thanks. It did make sense to me that a Mennonite and Amish married couple could go to the same church because of how they practice a more decentralized form of worship. Also I'm planning to move to SE Asia next year and would prefer to dress more like Mennonite and Amish do and so it was interesting to see them in a hot climate.

I agree with your comment's argument about this, we have to diversify our knowledge and work for life. But agriculture is one of the important branches of life because human beings definitely want to eat. So it is not wrong for us to tell the community to try to build an agricultural empire.

If only modern society had the "community" benefits of this culture, without the religion and the greed.
There are some people who say nothing is for free in this world...
There is plenty, and in saying so the generosity from those of us who would rather contribute to society is most of the time exploited to make a lazy person wealthy.
    Help your neighbour.
Help them build a shed, help them build a garden. Interact.
As someone who has been a computer nerd for over 30 years, and from a time when only intelligent folk could access the internet, it's plain obvious that social image online is destroying the very fabric of humanity.
Please, when's the last time you helped someone without expectations. When is the last time you helped a fellow human being?
We have a lot to learn from these people... Only we do not need the nonsense religion that installs fear. We just need genuine human beings who are kind of their free will and not out of fear of excommunication or damnation.
Be kind to your neighbour, without wanting something in return.

The misunderstanding about Mennonites is theyre not oldfasion as amish. They use modern equipment. As soon as u reach their place u see beautiful farms well mentained. Im from holland and our farmers are almost the same as the Mennonites in belize. I can understand them also if they talk slow. Just met a couple of them in mexico. They went to merida to go to the hospital for their father. I dont think amish would use modern hospital. Ive seen Mennonite kids with dirtbikes also.

I am curious as to how these groups were afforded their land which is rich and fertile, while blacks and native live in horrendous conditions. Why haven’t the government provide land to the people who are descendants of slavery and colonialism? No offense to the Mennonites, everyone deserve a fair chance and am happy they can thrive in a new community. However, indigenous peoples and the black communities have been neglected and are underrepresented. It is a sad affair in the world where the ones that thrive get respect. Maybe there could be a collaboration between mennonites and other groups regarding farming and living off the land. We can only truly serve when we learn that we are all the same and some of us just need an opportunity in order to thrive.

    • @ChrisMustList

@Cece John When Mennonite community travel or moved to other countries they buy land nothing is given to them for free. They are very hard working people. Thanks to the Mennonite community we have chicken, meat , vegetables including rice and beans cheese , milk etc etc.
To most belizeans the government provides land some are least land and gives them opportunity to buy over the years they have to pay the taxes also. Sadly I know a few also that they just don't care and sell the land either they go to the USA or just spend the money foolish. Very rare they would harvest the land . I lived in Corozal and the government gives a lot of land to families that need. Also in Belize watch the news few families received houses. Remember Belize is a lot more than what Chris videos shows. Chris mentions it at the beginning of his videos.

Well i've seen Black and Hispanic Mennonites in Belize so not sure how much reliability i give to your comment. Fyi lots of cultures and groups maintain cohesion, the Chinese also keep to themselves. The main difference is the Mennonites have a legal contract with the government that allows them an extent of self governance, they had the same thing in both Canada and Mexico. The reason many left Canada for Mexico is because Canada reneged on the legal contract similarly to how they reneged on the contracts with the native Canadians.

@@exodusfamilybelize My comment doesn't require your reliability stamp of approval. In the video I saw, which is still on RUclips, one of the Mennonite men said they do not intermingle with the people of Belize.
And as for government contracts, why should any country give the Mennonites any while many of the native residents are living in poverty? Canada, Mexico, Belize are not obligated to Mennonites who chose to leave their own country and settle in other people's countries.

@@ahwakewellnessBecause before the Mennonites there was no industry and no farming in Belize. And none of the locals wanted to work on a farm. George Price, the then Prime Minister actually begged us to move here to help boost the economy out of poverty.
As for intermingling, cultures have a hard time merging together and can cause lots of divorces or other problems due to not understanding each others needs and emotions. Therefore it's best to keep a distance.

Do Amish and Mennonites read the Bible? What is a typical diet? What are the sources of power used for cooking and running a household since you actually are living "off-grid"?

Everyone here is so quick to say good things yet not a word about how these Amish & Mennonites are absolutely destroying the rain forests in these countries by clear cutting. What they are doing is absolutely devastating to that environment and downright disrespectful to the locals and these countries as a whole.
