    Westones sound good, but they don't last. Not sure if it's their design, or materials, or quality control, but you'll get about two years out of them and something will break. Either the housing cracks, they short out, or the cable goes. Based on my experience with several Westone models, it's best to avoid these.

    • @geeva99
      @geeva99 Год назад

      The cable is normal, I have had weston w60 and kinda feel their forever lasting

    A Brainwavz B400 IEM unboxing/review would be wonderful. You should try and get your hands on them, Mike. They cost $200 and they are said to be magnificent for the price.

    @hi-fi insiderI have found the Pelican 1010 case to be the best for my IEMs. At $10, on Amazon, it is better than what most manufacturers offer too.

    • @HiFiInsider
      @HiFiInsider  5 лет назад

      The one included with W80 is too small and hard to work with. W80 is one of my favorite IEMs of all time. It scales very well so as your gear gets better, it sounds better.

    I love these. I like the smoothness of the ALÔ cable actually. Especially the balanced version which has more energy fro my Onkyo Dp X1. Why do you prefer the thin Westone cable?

    • @andrewayers1141
      @andrewayers1141 7 лет назад

      Erik Witkowski The Ultra-thin cables are actually made by Linum, not Westone.

    • @HiFiInsider
      @HiFiInsider  7 лет назад +1

      correct. Westone used their Music series. I bought the BaX over the weekend. Look forward to checking that out. :)

    • @HiFiInsider
      @HiFiInsider  7 лет назад +2

      The ALO cable sounds great, but it is too microphonic and the cable is not as comfy around the ears. The Ultra-thin cable is awesome, but it takes care to use it as they tangle easily.

    Mike, quick question - what do you think of these cables in terms of sound quality:
    Sony Kimber 4.4
    ALO ref 8
    Westone ultra thin 2.5 balanced

    • @HiFiInsider
      @HiFiInsider  6 лет назад

      sound alone would be the Sony/Kimber 4.4. It fits W80. I use it.

    Hi Mike I have a question for you...I am very familiar with vintage analog equipment and turntables...however with my vintage amp I like to sometimes play music off my iPad using you tube or Spotify ect...would a dac between my iPad and amp improve the sound quality from the iPad? If so I'm using audioquest 3.5 mini to rca cable to connect iPad to me amp, is there a dac that will use this cable or will I need special cables? Thank you!! 🎧🎙

    • @HiFiInsider
      @HiFiInsider  7 лет назад +1

      the new Dragonfly RED is compatible with iOS devices via the Lightning output. You'll need the Apple Lightning to USB camera adapter $29. This should improve the audio slightly. Spotify and RUclips audio are rather low quality so there are limitations on what a high-end DAC could do with these types of sources.

    Everytime a new product come out it is always marvelous and previous model is a bit lacking. Yet when anyone bought it and question the sound quality the answer is you need to let the device sink in for a time period for best performance. Audiophile sector is so full of sh*t I can't believe.

    • @HiFiInsider
      @HiFiInsider  7 лет назад +6

      your ears have to "break-in" to the new sound. Like new shoes, the more you use it the better it fits.

    how's it compare to shure se846?

    • @dirty_dan75158
      @dirty_dan75158 3 года назад

      Unfair comparison given the se846 is a $900 4 BA IEM and the W80 is $1500 with 8 BA drivers. The Shure is way out of the Westone's league in detail and overall performance. The SE846 is so old actually that there are newer IEMs that outperform it for less money.

    For the high end price, looks like it's made out of plastic. Think have seen a lot nicer built iems in that price. Have seen kz iems look nicer. Big fan of anything with that price and sound. Sure would love them still.

    • @blakegaiser1253
      @blakegaiser1253 7 лет назад +1

      It is made of plastic and that was a very specific decision that was made. You can make tighter bends and more organic shapes in plastic. Also it is lighter and doesn't transmit heat or cold like metal would. All in all it might not look as pretty as metal but it feels better and I can't see them when they are in my ears but I can feel them!

      strongyang HD800 will cost you more money to run, i.e. proper amp. IEMs are less finicky. get a decent DAP and they're good to go

      Gilang Wicaksono Which sound better?

    • @darthmandude
      @darthmandude 7 лет назад +1

      strongyang HD 800 is what you call a treble beast: precise, wide, resolving, but holy God can it be sharp at times. W80 won't have its soundstage and sense of space, but it will have smoother trebles and harder hitting low ends if the W60 is anything to go by. I'd get the w80 of you prefer portable audio

    • @strongyang
      @strongyang 7 лет назад

      Gilang Wicaksono Okay, I have Grado SR225. It sounds amazing. I guess the difference between the HD 800 and Grado is the soundstage? All of my audios are in FLAC
