4K - Summer Trains on the Grimsby Subdivision: Busy CN Freight and Passenger Train Action!

- Located in the scenic Niagara Region of Ontario is the CN Grimsby Subdivision. Running a total of 43 miles between Hamilton and Niagara Falls, Ontario, this section of rail line usually doesn't get too much action compared to other rail subdivisions near by. However, the Summer of 2018 proved to be a rather busy and unique time on the Grimsby Subdivision.
On a normal day, the Grimsby Subdivision sees 2 freight trains, CN A421 and A422, Mac Yard to Port Rob, as well as the twice Daily Amtrak/Via Maple Leaf Service. Earlier this year in a surprising move, CN reinstated the M330 and M331 Port Rob to Sarnia manifest trains, providing a total of 4 scheduled freight trains a day on the Grimsby Subdivision. Add in the handful of thrice weekly GO Trains heading for Niagara, and you've got a rather busier rail line! Bonus points as well for GO sending the awesome F59's down too!!
CN has also been power short lately, which leads to some awesome power and extra long manifest trains. I focused mainly in the Grimsby Area, at the VIA station as well as around Nelles Road.
All locations listed in video.
Thanks for watching!

8:24 those tracks look like there going to break. Scary seeing that train bounce like that.
Great catches, & shots!
Hi Michael, you watched those trains in Grimsby where I live, Amazing trains you got on video, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you!
Who else thought these trains would derail
How did you know these trains were coming? I really enjoy watching your train videos! Awesome video!
Love the new profile picture!
These tracks can use some upgrading. Did you see at 8:24 the train cars get bumped up at that part of the track
Not in the best shape indeed! Kinda was scary standing so close with the poor track conditions!
Nice video!
How fast are these going? The train at 1:50 looks like it has some serious speed on it.
Any idea if CN is going to press for the replacement of the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge? I’m sure they don’t want to constantly loop around to Buffalo all the time.
A single F59 on a Niagara service? Sounds like a recipe for falling behind schedule. Niagara trains normally reach 93 mph between Toronto and Burlington, but the F59s are limited to 83 mph. And to make matters worse, they have 1000 less horsepower than the usual MP40s, making acceleration slower too. They should keep the F59s on the slower lines like Barrie or Stouffville and make sure they can get an MP40 on the Niagara trains.
Most of the trains that I caught were near running on time, or delayed due to the Welland Canal. Was honestly surprised to see them being used solo on the line, but no complaints here!
I'll go with CN management managing their railroad rather than armchair critic commentary.
Btw, reinstating 330 and 331 was not unexpected. Everyone knew CN was costing themselves more money than they were saving with that move.
Need this in train sim.
That SD70 #1009 occured @ 7:32. :-)
I'm guessing you come to Canada on business and catch trains while up here? Nice shots!
Thanks!
