He literally said he doesn’t practice he only jams because it’s hard for him to remember notes and also he can’t read music. In what way does that add to a musicians greatness. He’s the kind of guy to reverse wound his low e string because it “adds more tension” and play a right handed guitar upside down even though it gives him less higher fret access and ergonomics.
I really love his playing style, performance skill, showmanship and music but I just don’t understand why he is considered a great musician/guitarist or even the best.

Jimi had a lot of pent up and subdued anger. There are tons of stories of how verbally, and sometimes physically, abusive he was when he drank. It's why he stopped drinking and turned to other drugs. It's really par for the course though. All the greatest artists are people who are internally tortured.
On acid, he was noted to be very placid, if not dismissive of others. There's a story, related by Mitch Mitchell, about an episode where the band members and a few friends were all hanging out and on acid. There was always tension between Hendrix and JHE bassist Noel Redding. According to Mitchell, Redding was trying to talk to Hendrix about band matters and having more creative influence. Hendrix was pretty much paying him no attention and just kept playing his guitar. Redding apparently became furious, started screaming, grabbed a kitchen knife and chased Hendrix around the apartment. He locked himself in the bathroom while the other party goers attempted to calm Redding down.
There's something of an esoteric reference to this event in the song Voodoo Child (Slight Return). At around the 3:50 mark, during an instrumental segment, the words "I don't take no more acid, especially with Noel" can be heard.
Just some interesting Jimi trivia. Do with it what you like.

I don't think he felt he was legend at all. Part of his mystique after all these years is simply because he died so young. If he lived a full life I guarantee he would not be held in the reverence he is today, its just human nature. Same with Cobain, he was just NOT good as everyone feels his was. Its the whole dying young thing.

Jimi Hendrix was a very sensitive guy. Very creative. Manic depressive. Up and down. He was known by his friends for having a great sense of humour. He didn't think he was very good. He was also a lovely poet. He was all about the feeling in his music and expressing what was in your soul. Every other guitarist knew him to be pretty much the best guitarist in rock. He died in 1970 and I still hear people playing his music in the street, 50 years later. He was unique. He stood alone. And he was only in his twenties. Unbelievable talent.
