This is music that rises above the gate of your heart and ends in the ballroom of your soul. It connects you with everyone and that makes it a masterpiece of art.
Of all the songs on this album..., this was the hardest for Floor to sing. I believe it took a number of takes because she kept breaking down and crying. Floor is an empath and to convey the feeling of loss, grief, hopefulness with a tinge of bittersweet played with her emotions. Especially after having to deal 6 weeks post pregnancy.
Tuomas Holopainen wrote it as a reflection upon his father’s passing in 2021. He reflects on how we have been blessed to have had lantern lights who have guided our lives and how we in turn should serve the same role for others. It is about our love for each other. The Welsh and Northern English word "wynde" means a narrow lane or alley between homes. Basically we walk that narrow alley between our ancestors and our descendants lighting the way between generations until we become the ancestors when we walk into the yesterwynde. Gone is the hurt, the wait, gone is the warmth of day. A stray boat saved, happy memories engraved, on into a velvety night, beneath a lanternlight. Last night brought the heaviest of snows melting the songs of old, tying the boat, write a new one soon, sending me to the drowning moon, far above a lanternlight. I'm in the light and flood, I'm in the four winds, I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems, I am the snow on your palm. I am the secret stream, moss beneath your feet, I am you who climbed off of my back not long ago, a sheltered song in a world now gone, petrichor, the timeless. Turn loose the swaying boat, meltwater, sound of spring. I hear our song now, sung by the free, for a thousand more tomorrows of an incomplete weave. To the meadows I go, I’ll be waiting for you once upon a lanternlight. I walk now toward the trees, I am the secret stream, the night falling at my feet into the forest of Yesterwynde.
I think this end part specially express Tuomas own feelings when he lost his father before he wrote this song. You are so much in to this beautiful music, and in the end it kind of stops when you still wish it would be going on, and giving a peaceful closure, which never comes. It is same with the people we might lose even suddenly. We rarely get a full closure and accepting this loss of somebody, to able to move on immediately. There is always this sorrow feeling what was left said or done with this one who is now passed away. However, instead of regret this song urge you to be grateful of those who has been guiding lights in your life.
This song is deep and touches deep. It‘s about the ones we lost but who are not fully gone. I`m in the light and flood I`m in the four winds I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems I am the snow on your palm When even Floor has teary eyes while recording the video …
Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor.
Lantern light is the passing of a human being. Underneath the light are the living, above it are the deceased. Beautiful and hopeful, very personal to all of us, but Tuomas wrote it after his father passed away.
such an absolutey gorgeous song the composition what a masterpiece sonically lyrically album cover is pretty cool looking Tuomas playing the piano and Floor's voice wow holy smokes
One of Tuomas Holopainen's most beautiful songs he has ever written and composed! Floor Jansen is totally amazing in this song!
This is officially my song of the year. Period.
I concur
