Lovely episode!! I really enjoyed listening to the conversation while repotting my plants. As much as I love the household, I’m glad it was just you two with Joan on the couch cause it made it so much more intimate
I really enjoyed this interview and the way you two approached the questions. It was great to learn more about Joan and picture her as a young mom. I love the Sunday dinner tradition and wish my family did something like that. Excellent episode! ❤
I lost my grandfather last December. I remember someone telling my family that they often go when they’re alone because they don’t want to put their family through seeing them go. I remember this so clearly… we knew he was near the end and was with him in the hospital every single day. It was a Friday and we had taken a break to get some stuff done and was planning on coming back to be with him at night. Plans changed as we were all so drained and not feeling well we took that night off. Of course the one night we took off from being with him he had passed. And earlier that day I remember telling my grandpa he could go if he was ready. Knowing all this with how it played out gave me a lot of peace instead of guilt. ❤
Yes I believe this too! My mom was in hospice for two weeks before she died, and my 3 siblings and I (along with a bunch of other family members) were there with her basically around the clock. When she died, all 4 of us kids were there at the facility but just not in the room with her. We think she waited until we were out of the room to pass 💗
Same with my grandma! We were with her for a few consecutive days and then one morning around 7am, she pulled out her own breathing tube and went maybe an hour or so later. I believe she knew we weren't there, so that's why she chose then.
I think Joan leaving Gary's season resonated because reality tv as a whole doesn't do a good job showing this. Or casting people who would do the right thing. Love to see that changing!
I heard a podcast years ago from a hospice nurse… people often die alone as soon as they have the chance, as if they are WAITING to be alone at that moment and want privacy. It happens ALL the time. Don’t feel guilty Joan. He chose that moment for himself.
I was thinking the same thing. Even if she was in the room sleeping, she probably would still be carrying guilt thinking “why wasn’t I awake.” If John could speak to her now, he’d likely say he knows she feels badly but hopes she won’t - that it was his time and he needed to go when he did.
I just lost my dad a year ago to cancer. On his last day, we knew he would pass away very soon and do tons of family was there to say goodbye. By the end of the night it was just my grandparents and my two sisters and I. We were preparing for a long night in the living room by his bed and as everyone was away grabbing their blankets, he started the showing the signs that hospice said would be there leading up to his last breath. After he passed we explained this story to a friend, and they said that most parents or protective partners will pass (or try) when no one is around so they don't traumatize their loved ones. It's their way of protecting you from the pain of watching them pass away.
Nick thanks for this great interview with Joan….but i wanna say also…that you have been the best male Bachelor IMO…very sweet guy…i get sad when you say anything negative about yourself. IMO you have been number one, just sayin.❤️

Great conversation, wish it was longer.)

And Joan is amazing🌷

Unless you’re watching it- it’s hard to ‘listen’ with a full crew-
Love Joan! She’s a few years younger than me and it’s really fun hearing her similar points of view. She’s one smart, classy lady!
Joan if you read this, we loved you before you left the season. You were a gem from day 1

Had no idea who she was but was immediately in love with her! Amaaazing woman! Please bring her back on!
As a Dutchie I loved to hear all of this. I am not watching the bachelorette but she seems like an amazing person♥️
Timing is everything. Some people reunite and it works.

I think he knew he was not alone. He was in his house and bed with family in the house.

Love Joan :)
Omfg I live in Georgetown!!!!!❤😍
love Georgetown!!! i live in DC too!
Let's see you wearing some of these clothes that you advertise that you say you love. How are the Stitch Fix clothes holding up?
It seems like you two are making Joan be your marriage counselor, questioning her so much about her past marriage.
