I think Joan likes Pascal bc she knows he'd be a less serious relationship. based on her saying she may never be over losing her first true love, the thought of a second REAL love may be way more scary and possibly guilt inducing, whereas a lighter fun relationship with Pascal wouldn't feel as serious or scary
