I had never heard an interview with Billy before. What an awesome guy. The mentality he displayed during the AI / comics discussion I think gives great insight into his success. Wish I had payed more attention to talk like that during my formative years instead of being focused on "everything sucks."
I've recently reflected on how different it is now. As a punk kid in 99-00 we definitely had that everything sucks mentality.... Which was rough because i was such a fan of pop punk. Its like night and day now. Great comment
Good Charlotte's music really helped me in my teens. I had an absent father and a somewhat abusive step dad and Inreally related to Benji & Joel's story. Billy started my interest in art and inspired me to start doing art myself :) Life Can't Get Much Better was my first dance at my wedding too. Genuinely love the band!
As a witness I can confirm WAYNE WE WERE YOUNG was one of the craziest crowd reactions/surprises ever! Nobody expected it and everybody loved it! Great interview. I love finding out more about the people behind the music I love.
Honestly I think this is your best interview yet, super impressed with how articulate, respectful and down to earth Billy is! Having only really known Joel and Benji from GC, I had no idea what to expect here, but Billy has got himself a new fan.
Silverchair!💜 I remember Billy made figurines of the band that were sold in Hot Topic and I had the Benji one and my friend had Billy or Joel. She has both hers and mine now though.
Say what you want about Good Charlotte their live show is 10/10 Saw them in 2008 at Brixton Academy, incredible show, sound just like the record, and a hidden gem cover of So Lonely by The Police. Amazing live band 🍻
I saw them few times from what like 2016 or 2017 to 2019? I went all out. Even did few shows in the europe one after another, cuz well till 2017 i couldnt see them life and they were the band ive been in love with since i was a teen, since 2002. Each show was amazing, had a lot of heart and soul plus it was quite good, performance wise. But the energy gc and their fans make is something.. ive been to a lot of concerts by other bands.. but no one can create what gc still can. Maybe im bias. I do highly value them.
Billy is such a great guy, i met hin at a comic con here in Vegas he even hooked me up with a few freebies with my purchases. So happy he doing what he loves, I saw GC 20 years ago in Fresno and last Saturday and Sunday, so amazing.
19:30 Silverchair was indeed awesome! Their first 3 albums are their best for sure, but their later material is also quite good, although very different
I'm from Annapolis, MD so it's weird to hear him talk about the band not being famous before The Young and the Hopeless because the self-titled album was everything to me.
love this video. it's nice getting to know Billy from his side of things. often we hear a lot about the Madden twins (no hate) but I'd like to see other members too. and yes Finn, if you're up to it, do an episode about Silverchair. Silverchair is no more but I guess it doesn't hurt to message Ben & ask if he's available to talk with you. he's active on social media.
I'll say like this Good Charlotte marked my youth, there were a lot of bands I used to listen when I was a Kid in Ecuador, later on when I kind of improve my knowledge in music I stoped listening to most of the bands I used to as a Kid, but then one day I went back to listen to my old music and Good Charlotte went right in to my head again like I never stoped listening to it.
as much as I always dogged on them when I was in 8th grade, they have so many bangers. I can not deny that, and I have a much bigger appreciation for them now that im mid 30s. also this is the most Ive ever seen him talk lol
Love GC! Such a fun band and so many classic songs which still hold up today! I know they have been around for like 25 years now but when he was speaking at 14:20ish and said about being in his 40s I was like holy fuck! Dude looks no older than mid-20s at most! Brilliant interview as always Finn :)
What an interesting guy. He speaks really fast, seems like a lively enough character, but at the same time not suuuper bubbly and over the top. Even a bit flat and to the point, but not in a bad way. This was a good listen!
GREAT interview, Finn. It's cool to see an hour long interview with Billy. Good Charlotte are one of my favorite bands of all time, and I was 18 when their first album dropped. I remember getting a sampler from Sam Goody/Musicland "Little Things" was the first track on it and it blew my mind. It was probably the first time I heard rapping in a pop punk song. And those are my two favorite genres, Hip Hop and Punk Rock. "The Young and the Hopeless" is in my top 10 favorite albums of all time.
I saw them few times from what like 2017 to 2019? I went all out. I do highly value them. but next time they show up in europe go and see them. You wont regreat it. I promise. Coming from another 34 years young person ;) and i even did veep. I even meet them. Strangly enough, since i was already in my late 20s i didnt thougjt it will mean so much to me, but its one of my favorite memories of all time. Its wild to fullfill some some of out teenage dreams
@xXxRiotGrxXx Yeah GC are at the top of my Music Bucket List then Lorna shore then I'm full up. I have Sleep Token and Falling in reverse December with my wife.
I couldnt go to lorna shore this year but next time for shure xD but im seeing falling in reverse in november xD its my 5ft time or something like that and its the first time its gonna be this big. I already know im gonna miss smaller type of shows they had years ago. Good theyre getting recognition but smaller shows are so much more personal and likable. While ronnie is known to be really good performer in past like what 8 years or so, i think his shows cant be compared to gc shows for example. Ronnie is just somewhat more profesional and a bit "cold" on stage if you ask me. Either way, cant wait to see fir again.
I was never a fan of Good Charlotte as I was more a skate punk fan. I heard Motivation Proclamation and liked it but then fell off after. Billy was a great interview and seems like a genuine and humble guy. Great interview Finn!
I am 34 now but when I was a teenager Billy was my biggest love 😅❤ I've never had any other idol. Ohh he was so sexy on the stage 😅 But seriously, GC was so important in my youth that it became a part of me.
Finn I didn't know you had that neat past with work. Sounds cool. But your so right. Think what you want is what you want till it's not then the other ends up being it. Glad to see that guy has his health and not doped up. Never listened much to em tho. Too many chick's did lol
Too bad they did not talk about Level 27 Clothing, but it was a great talk… Ps: i’m 8 minutes short from the end of the video, if they talk about it i’ll be back here.
My friends got into a fight with the new found glory guys at some local show before they got big. They weren`t playing, were in a mosh pit. one friend calls them talented assholes.
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA Perhaps some further reviews of the rest of the songs and the fact that they played at Denny's after being influenced by the What's up Denny's meme.
Yeah, i think my audience likes it when i mention things they already knew about. I don’t really get it, but as long as they’re happy with the content thats what matters!
@@FinnMckentyPRMBAIt would be pretty cool if you did a reaction to the new Blink album like you did with the last Limp Bizkit album 👌I think a lot of the deep cuts are pretty solid.

Personally I disagree about Rap in the 2010s that for me was the worst thing musically in a long time can’t stand any artists that came out of that era kinda set rap in a direction I to this day can’t stand.

Billy's a super underrated musican imo

I love Billy Martin❤
Loved his honesty about not being into pop punk and more into nu metal.
Thank you for this interview. I love Good Charlotte. Billy is awesome.
You've been crushing it with these interviews man! This one and the one with Caleb have me feeling super inspired. Thanks for all the amazing content!

Great interview! Been a huge fan of Billy's since the beginning! Nice to see an interview from his POV for a change!
Saw them back in 2002 or 3 with NFG and MxPx. Such a rad show!

Yes, this dude has some street in him, i can hear it in his voice, when he talks.
Never seen Good Charlotte but always wanted to since I was 12. I'm sadly 34 now. But I hope to go see them if they do a UK run.

Even though Finn’s content is primarily music focused, some of the best conversations are the ones he has geeking out with guests about art.
I have much more professional experience with design than music tbh. It’s been my career for 25 years.
I love Good Charlotte!! ❤️❤
42. This man is 42. Man is aging in reverse dog years.
Cool to hear Billy shout out Silverchair. “Young Modern” and “Diorama” are not to be slept on.
Billyyyyyy❤
Yes please I second that I think it'd be really cool to see you do a deep dive on the band silverchair
@FinnMckenty …would be cool to get more of GC on vinyl. I’d like to see Cardiology for example.
Keep up the good work Finn
Billy rocking up with a jaw of the Gods.

I know i have been crushing on this guy since i was thirteen and still crushing on him. Ps i am 35 now

hi finn i’m a upcoming music review and i was wondering if i could get some tips and tricks because im not sure where to start
GC was my gateway drug into this world...

The Tony Hawk games had the best soundtracks of all time.
Good for him for keeping music and art as a 9-5. Marshall Mathers the same way.
First comment! Love The Anthem! :)
Rap pop did get popular in 2010s future, fetty wap all that stuff was n it torture for me lol
Oh my god. The jealousy I have right now. Lol, I love GC and the fact that they don't get the respect they deserve is sad.
