"Leading up the chain of command" and "leading through difficult times" are two of the concepts that really spoke to me in this talk. Great job, Leif!

It seems easy to lead when things are going well. The test of a true leader is how they handle the tough times. A great example from Leif of hanging on and detaching from your emotions even when he thought the end was near. We never lose hope!

What an ending... "Even in the most challenging times, leadership wins." Such a great reminder that Leadership is always the Solution.

Just the message we all needed to hear this week. No matter what challenges I face, Leadership wins. Outstanding. Oh and good relationships get you into BUDs, keep you from dying off a ship, and help you win. Got it!

Excellent points Leif ! If people at every level do a good honest assessment of themselves they can make the necessary adjustments to improve.

I love this point: "viewing yourself as a leader will change your perspective" (at 2:33)

My favorite part is Leif discussing how he earned his commanding officers trust. Such a powerful truth and reminder that relationships are paramount.

Great analysis how leadership solves all problems, even in moments where you are on the brink of death. Both physical death and moral death.

Exactly what I needed to hear today. Own the situation, control the outcome, and lead.

Great to hear it, Rob. It's humbling to take ownership, but then you get to own the solution.

Leif’s comment about hanging on just a little longer is what stands out to me personally most. 32 years of industry grind , up and down economies, success, loss, and the question eventually comes…can I keep this drive alive? Not all will persevere, but I heard that voice time and time again yet now I rationalize it away. Not at all dissimilar from Chief Joseph, my thoughts fall prey to a desire to fight no more. It is far easier to run to the idea of rest, than to hang on a little longer even if the water you are taking on are your own tears.

Right on, Lance. Hang in there. The situation is never hopeless. Take ownership and look for ways to attack the problem from a different angle.
