I want this so much, been dreaming of AR/VR since my teens, now MR's just gonna come in one whole package... C'mon September, time to upgrade my Rift....
Those pancake lenses looking hella good rn

im pretty much forced to upgrade from my rift s because meta has completely stopped caring for it already, and I can no longer get a new rift s controller even though its got crazy stick drift on it. At least what im forced to get seems pretty cool.

Such a well thought out video and well scripted, man. I was already excited for the AR in Meta Quest 3 for productivity purposes, but you've really sold the gaming and leisure side of it too. VR is my main enjoyment to escape from reality...but I want AR too for variety of experiences. Great job on your video, and thanks, it was really compelling.
Thank you 👍
Top notch video chap, with the title I thought you’d covered the exact same thing I was just finishing an edit on!
Luckily you’re covering the mixed reality abilities :) great edit. Thorough examples. I can’t wait to see that 2.5x resolution bump of the passthrough the quest 3 has over the pro!

I already have quest 2. I aint getting this one, but hope ppl enjoy their experiance with the quest 3. It looks very cool!
it should be pointed out - The QuestPro Passthrough is only 4x the pixel count compared to the Quest2. Quest3 is 10x the pixel count of the Quest2. So it'll look a lot better than the QuestPro.
I never had a VR headset, i am fighting everyday to not buy the Meta quest 2. But this Bad boy will break my small wallet around october for sure.
Pre order it when pre orders come, otherwise t might be out of stock for a while
Can't wait! Need a native Skyrim, Minecraft, Alien Isolation, even GTA SA though that's seeming like a pipe dream.... Nice video mate!
The object detection in your play space is cool, until it starts detecting ghosts.

I never got the Quest 2, only the Quest 1, so the more I see of this headset, the more excited I am. Haven't touched it in a bit, but I remember one of my favorite things on Quest 1 was sideloading apps that used the Guardian system of your home, for unique experiences. With AR, I'm excited to see those experiences expanded upon. (I just hope the battery life is good.)
Same battery life as Q2. About 2 and a halfish hours of gaming.
If only Meta heard us and implemented all those great ideas for the custom home environments
Hopefully they add future updates like this
@@Semiskimmed_ imagine being able to customize your irl room with 3D models/pictures of your favorite videogames. Or have a night day cycle in virtual home environments
I came here specifically after buying the pro and almost immediately returning it hoping my long wait for this specific release update
I have the pro and I think you made a good decision
The Quest 3 looks like an amazing upgrade, I'm really excited for the full color passthrough, higher resolution, and ringless controllers.
Also the thinner form factor is great since it'll be a lot more comfortable.
With the full color passthrough, working in VR sounds a lot more compelling.
I could just bring my laptop and the Quest 3 with me on a trip and instantly pull up 3 virtual monitors, which would be amazing for productivity.
Lol punched a few walls. I smacked my lip on my desk because I forgot I moved my desk forward a little.
Nice video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I have pre ordered a Quest 3 and really looking forward to receiving it this Fall. It will be my first VR headset. The full color pass through was the deciding factor for me as well as the smaller lighter footprint. Liked your video, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
It's actually slightly heavier than the Quest 2
That would be a game changer for VR! Interesting. Have you ever considered spotlighting the adventures and travel options from 360 Videos? We are making growth in this area.
Wish it had an OLED display like the Quest one. That would be the icing on the cake.
4:50 turn on developer mode and turn off guardian
AR Sheeeesh 1:23 that painting got me half chubbed
I've been dreaming of a cod zombies in AR ever since I was a kid, I used to imagine it with nerf guns, and the windows and doors were the boarded up barriers
I don't think I'll be turning my house into a horror game. I still gotta live there after!
I think Augmented Reality will be the bridge that really gets more people to adopt VR as a whole. VR's problem is that it makes you sick, every time I show someone VR for the first time they get the most excited just drawing the Guardian Boundary via passthrough - from there they get a headache. MR fixes that and will give that 90% of people who are majorly excited during the passthrough phase of a Quest 2 demo something they actually want to buy.
May I suggest to use a de-esser audio filter. Just little bit. Thx for your attention
Another great video bud!
Thank you
I hope that with the newfound power of the quest 3, we finally get a BONEWORKS port
Watching this though my oled laptop looks great, I bet you will be disapointed on the cheap lcd
Meta dropped the pro line, that makes more sense to me now, knowing that the quest 3 supports AR as well
Still no word on it's LCD displays black levels, colour, motion persistence(Although, I'm pretty sure it will be motion blur free at 1ms like Quest 2) and brightness/nits. Hoping this time around they can push past the Q2's 100 nits, even if it's just 120.
Really disappointed that Meta decided to use a regular LCD without Local Dimming which would of given us inky blacks and richer colours. This will be the headsets achilles' heel. Because really, if you pair it with a PC(using a 4090) it will trounce the PSVR2 in terms of horse power, even if the Q3 doesn't come equipped with eye tracking & FR.
Honestly, local dimming is offset by fresnel lenses, anything bright will just illuminate the whole thing. Same with video compression, it kills a lot of the black contrast. Modern Samsung and Sony TVs LCD TVs have incredible black levels and HDR contrast without local dimming. I wouldn't worry about it, I'd rather have that than screen door effect.
@@Hamachingo
Modern OLED, QD-OLED and especailly LED(Of any kind) TV's overall motion handling is nothing short of terrible, unless you're running games at 120-144fps. With movies & tv you're screwed with low motion clarity and high motion persistence. Thankfully, that doesn't translate to VR. Quest 2 offered a 1ms motion persistence(Zero motion blur like a CRT) @100nits, and the Quest 3 will no doubt offer the same persistence, and hopefully higher brightness this time around, even if it's just 120nits. If Q3 can at least offer deeper blacks and richer, more vibrant colours than Q2 than at least that's something.
Here's a Lens & Screen comparison between PSVR2 & Quest 3
(PSVR2) > Fresnel - 2000x2040 - 110d FOV - 2ms motion persistence @60nits - OLED Mura
(Q3) > Pancake - 2064x2208 - 100d FOV - 1ms motion persistence @100nits+ - No OLED Mura
Again, no word on Brightness/nits just yet. But it's safe to say it will be at least 100 nits. And of course, you can get far more brightness out of PSVR2's OLED display, but at the cost of motion. If you stick the slider at the 4th point, you get 110nits, but the motion persistence jumps up higher than 2ms(which is '0' on the slider). 0 may offer the best motion, but the picture becomes dreary, dim and lifeless.
PSVR2 has been both incredible, yet frustrating. I can't stand it being tethered, which breaks stand up VR for me, the sweet spot is finicky and small, the rings on the controllers are cumbersome, bulky and annoying, and the trading of motion clarity for brightness with it's display is a double edged sword. But good lord is Resident Evil: Village stunning in VR, it's THE reason to own it. Plus Resident Evil 4: VR Mode is on the way either late this year or early 2024.
Part of me wants to get rid of it, along with my PS5, but those few VR2 exclusives have got a hold on me. I can live without it's head haptics, adaptive triggers and OLED-like blacks for now, because if you pair a Q3 with a PC(4090) you'll have far more power at your disposal. Ultimately, it's the exclusives, like with RE8 & RE4, plus an AstroBot: Rescue mission port and sequel that are possibly in the works, that have me clinging to the thing.
@@NintenPizza Damn, now I get anxiety, 120 nits sounds like I may wanna dim it down and get sick from the PWM dimming. Had to return my Samsung Frame because even in its 960 Hz mode, it made me sicks (the static picture displaying mode was even worse).
Then again, I can just use sunglasses underneath, that'll get those black levels down.
Can't wait for the Quest 3, hope the old CV1 won't quit on me till then.
just sold my oculus quest 2 thats over 2 years old with almost no loss and waiting for the new release 😍

The thing is for people like me with smaller play spaces AR isn’t going to be that useful when you can only move about a few feet in each direction
Dang you In prison?
@@johnjoejoe7988 my bedroom?
@@User-d6l6ti agree with you, im also limited for space
_Most_ people have smaller playspaces, and this will be a major hurdle for AR. When VR first came out (2016), there was a big emphasis on room scale gaming. Many games expected and required the user to have a large room dedicated to VR to play in. This hampered the adoption of VR in general, and room scale largely died out. Why? Because few people could or would dedicate a large space in their home to the purpose. It's an enormous barrier when VR demands alteration/expansion of that person's actual living situation to accommodate it.
AR runs into this same hurdle. Did anyone notice how in Apple's big video for their Vision Pro every example of its use took place in enormous, completely clean, and uncluttered luxurious homes with wide open spaces? Most people don't have a butler (though if you're spending $3500+ on a headset, maybe you do). A lot of people are going to have difficulty finding somewhere to put a virtual game board or to be able to run around their apartment fleeing the undead without pissing off their roommate or tripping over the pizza box from last night whatever.
It kind of sucks for the limits of your living situation to also significantly limit your gaming situation.
That's the problem, most people aren't going to want to walk around their entire house because they live with other people, gaming is usually just kept to me in my room and I have no intention of going beyond that. Not saying AR is a waste of time obviously, but I don't think it's gonna be the "next big thing" at all
Does the mixed reality mean i can play game and actually seeing it inside my house? i mean that would be cool so i wouldnt break my hand punching my wall
When is it coming out? 😮
VR/AR is in the baby stage just now, in the future I want to be able to put on a small headset when I am outside, like when I visit Stockholm and then see the new royal castle be replaced with a model of the old castle, or that there cam be a robot-tag or what they are called on historical sites like Birka in Sweden that allow me to walk through a viking city, or to walk in Pompeii and get the houses reconstructed. That future will come, but think that you go into a museum like Vasa museum in Stockholm where they have a old war ship/wreck and then go around it and see like ghosts on it of sailor that work on the ship back before it sank. I want to be able to be unlimited by a room. full freedom to VR in the world :)
please tell me about the drift of the controllers
Turn my house into a haunted one? Jokes on you it already is lmao
This could potentially take away all the clutter of kids' toys from the house and allow my son to have VR games only, which he can easily swap out and replace without impacting the environment of all the plastic toys.
My ideal scenario would be to have a headset for each member of the family to wear for games and then a few spare for when guests come over., but I will stick to just one when quest 3 is released!
Over time, I can see us all walking around in the world with headsets., a scary thought but it is change we need in our lives.

Ain’t no way I’m turning my house to a haunted house….I can’t live there anymore if I do that. 😂😂😂
I pre ordered yesterday
I use my passthrough often. Not for gaming, but to walk from one place to the other. I have both Quest2 and the Pico4. The passthrough on the Pico4 is a lot better, color and sharper. I can actually see the time on my watch. But it is 2D. I use it when I watch a movie and search for my coffee. Or when the cat is running around my feet when I'm playing Skyrim VR. There are always cases where I just need to see the environment around me, but not want to take off the headset. The Quest2 is very limited. But workable. I play holofit with the Quest2 and walk on my elliptical. Since I do this early mornings the sun is shining into my room and I need to put the Quest on my head before I step up the elliptical. With passthrough I put the Quest on my head in the shade, double tick and walk to my machine. So practical.
But yes, watching movies or play some boardgames in passthrough mode would be great. Having my own virtual pinball machine in my room or watching my movie on a big screen and still see what's around me... I'm all in for good passthrough.
The Pico does have really good clarity, better than the pro in terms of passthrough for sure, it's the lack of depth with is a shame
Will there be a 256gb version?
How do you do that? 1:12
I cant believe this still wont have display port.
This is "almost" your own personal holodeck ??
It most certainly is
This is literally what I am trying to do.
Thats really cool. Once they have VR in a pair of standard size glasses Ill bite but at my age 40+ this just isn't very appealing. I bet the kids are going to love this though.
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it😊
Not convinced on pass-through becoming such an integral part of VR games.
- Headsets are not something we will ever wear all the time
- most VR games are about creating alternate worlds, not augmented worlds; they have little to no use for pass-through.
- the highlighted games that do hardness pass-through are either gimmicks, tech demos, or target markets that do not have mass appeal.
Pass-through will certainly become valuable in the commercial space, but I don't see it being a useful tool for most games.
What excites me, and seems like a truly revolutionary development for both VR & AR interface design, is eye tracking.
With both Apple & Sony demonstrating its utility, I think Meta are making a grave misstep in not including it as a feature of their next generation headset(s).
What is the app name you said at 1:13

I hope it doesn't. I will animate my whole apartment.

interesting video
Me when i see the video:
“Huh?”
Brings cat into game...... kicks cat..... ohhh shi💀
i think ima wait for the Quest 4. I dont think the Quest 3 is big enough of an upgrade for 500 dollars.
I bought the Quest Pro and returned it 5 days after the purchase. The passthrough is not good, you need a well-lit room to eliminate the grain in the camera, and there are also warping effects on the sides, really lousy. I will probably buy the Quest 3 because it won't be too expensive, and I expect a better passthrough, but I don't expect perfection.
Meta vs Apple, what I like about Apple is that when they create something, it's well done. It's not just a product designed to be quickly sold to customers. Meta engages in misleading advertising, much like the advertisement for the Quest 3. It looks amazing, but I'm convinced it won't be like that when it's released. It was the same with the Quest Pro, we saw its avatar with legs, but that wasn't the case upon release.
Yeah as soon as we can map our house we will have a new bunch of ghost and zombie wave shooters...
When will creative people be more creative. The front door of the hous3 can be a portal once you step in your in different dimensions we need that real speacial experiences i know can be done i see glimpses of it in tech demos and short experiences

AR has a place but VR is very niche - surrendering your primary sense(s) is too damn scary, and always will be.
Meta gets into AR because they know they can't compete directly against Sony in the VR space
I feel bad that Vision Pro stole all the hype of Quest 3. Quest 3 is just Vision Pro, and can do much more (Gaming) with much cheaper price, but of course at the price of being much heavier and much uglier.
the only thing i want to know is if the extreamly overpriced battery strap can go on the quest 3
AR/MR with the Quest 3 is going to be, at best, a ton less terrible than before. That's about it. Does that make it good? With some decent experiences, absolutely! Does it make it great? Sometimes. Does that make it revolutionary, transformative, or life changing? Sadly no. The great thing about the Quest 3 is that it's a ton more powerful with better lenses and there's more and more devs coming into the space and making VR games, which is where the quality and fun will remain for another generation or two.
