- One of the most enigmatic figures in Eastern armwrestling. Alexey Voevoda (Алексей воевода) once stood at the peak of professional arm wrestling but seems to have disappeared from the scene.
How did he become the cult figure he is today and where is he now?

His training clips in pulling Jhon was just legendary
Yep, shot allways down in basement, darker surrounding, reminds a lot of documentary about bodybuilding pumping iron, where Lou Ferrigno was allways shot in a dark cold rooms, while Arnold, as John in pulling John was a california, sunshine and shit.
In pmping iron it was done very on purpouse, to make a dark and light, a glory champion schwarzenegger and darker underdog trying to take his spot.
What are you really serious talking about.. John and Arnold was the biggest icons in separate sports@@igorsvacic217
Damm Alexy story is like a legendary story of a warrior 🔥
I think even his name is/means something like a historical warrior class.
@@strongaesthetics voivode...warrior
Of a looser at best
Great vid once again man! I wish that Alexey never stopped. Just imagine how good he could have become. He was so young when he retired. Barely scratching the surface of his potential. Definitely parallels between him and the young Lou Ferrigno in this regard. Unfinished potential indeed. But at least we got to witness a portion of his greatness.
He had money problems and was not getting enough from AW.
It is really cool how well structured these vids are. Your care is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Gert! I appreciate the continued support.
This dude is a legit legend! Such a gifted athlete and also an Olympian! In a sport where athletes can compete at an elite level into their 50's...Can only imagine how dominant Alexey would be if he were still competing today!
Again flawless production.
I thought Devon Larratt was an entertaining charakter, but DAMN - Voevoda is a fckng multitalent and omnipresent in Russia!!! Hats off to this guy!
U mean John bezenk is entertaining
Man, your vids are always so good. I hope your channel starts to pop soon.
Hey thanks a lot! You commenting and watching is for sure helping the channel pop.
Yet another great video! I loved Veovoda and somehow I always wanted him to come back, specially now when armwrestling is becoming a bigger sport. His power really inspired me when I was younger and even nowadays. Watching his old training video just gives me a lot of hype for my next workout xD
Thanks a lot! The man certainly had drive and he was extremely gifted as an athlete.
My favorite armwrestler and athlete. Sporting rolemodel for me.
One of the best original content, ever made. 10/10
Thanks for the continued support, Igor!
@@armhistorian 💪👑
A near cult like figure in our armwrestling community, this guy had quite a life! Really interesting to research.
What are your thoughts on Alexey Voevoda?
For me he is the Russian Travis Begant. Very extroverted, very talented armwrestler, but sometimes showbooting too much.
One example is his weight lifting numbers he put out there, they were just exagorated...
Missing some infos.....Voevoda was vegan in 2015 comeback against Bresnan and just 104 kg ...- 20kg from prime .....and his endurance was only 15 seconds comparing Bresnan 40 seconds...when Mazurenko tested before the match.....so if he stay lean and vegan drugs free than zero chance to conquer again
@@krisztianmezei888 Hey! Thanks for joining in on the conversation. I saw that piece by Igor on him.. And I mentioned parts of it in the video in not so many words. I said he was less bulky.
The parts I omitted, I don't think were very prudent or relevant.
The fact that he was already vegan by then didn't matter imo. I know strong and weak vegan people. (I also mention later in the video that he was vegetarian for some time and turned vegan after.)
@@armhistorian no vegan in top6 in any sport in olympics or world champoinships so vegan mean weaker by facts.....less endurance...less strenght...less speed.....if you watch Voevoda 2014-15 comeback trainings on youtube and you know what he did 2002-2008 than you know he was about 60% of his best......when he basically conquered the armwrestling superheavyweight in years
@@krisztianmezei888 he was also older and conditioned for other sports.. I still don't think vegan is equal to weaker. It's far from a fact.
Great Video, great channel.
The photo used at 17:00 is absolutely hilarious. Surely that must be Alexey's Christmas Card to John Brzenk every year.
I agree. I love John's face there too.
Great content as always Arm Historian, you set the bar very high!
What's even better is that we have been left with some hope that Voevoda may actually make a come back, what a time for the sport! See you in the next one buddy.
Hope this legend comes back! Great content brother keep em coming!!
Confirmed now October 2023, Alexey Vs John Brzenk
Yo, am kinda late, but i just wanted to say that your videos are inspiring and very entertaining. I watched all of your recent videos and think that this style of documentary about a topic that i am very interested (arm wrestling) in is very rare. Love your content brother
I appreciate it a lot!
I was kind of missing this kind of content in the Armwrestling world, so thought I might as well try.
high quality channel. thank you Arm Historian!
Great puller to watch he never quit 🔥 Good video mate 👏
Another great video!
Thanks Cory! I appreciate it.
Great video. Voevoda is one of the reasons I got into Arm-wrestling. Thanks for the content.
You're very welcome! Thanks for the comment.
Terrific video , really informative with great detail & as always , well presented .
Thank you kindly! So nice of you.
Great job
👨🏫👍Another great history lesson, this channel should grow nicely because you do something different to a lot of other channels.
Thanks for that! I'll try to keep the quality up.
Really great video. Good job man!
Thanks DollarTree!
Killing it with these videos. I wish you many subscribers!
Thank you for saying that. It keeps me motivated!
Your research is next level, great video!
Thanks! I appreciate that. Usually the research takes the most time.
We need to get your channel more attention, it deserves it heavily
Thanks :) I am open to ideas.
Will be super cool to see him return I remember watching him arm wrestling he was a sight to see!
Yea! I'd love for there to be more footage of him pulling out there. Coming back to the sport would be one way to do that.
Another great video ! Alexey has to come back ! 💪
A gigachad amongst other men
Fantastic research and video! I learned a lot about Alexey. What an amazing life he's led!
Hey Eric! Thanks so much.
He did indeed have quite the ride so far.
Great documentary
Slavic Thor Alexey Vevoda!!💪🏼🇷🇺
This content is great. 👍👌
Hard man to figure out
More videos please. Awesome content.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Comments like this help me stay motivated.
@@armhistorian Also your Russian names pronunciation are spot on. Your very through, I think that the sport of arm wrestling will limit you. You may be able to integrate maybe Olympic or Powerlifting athletes also. But, thanks again for the content.
How is his English? As a relatively new fan he is probably the personality that intrigues me the most.
I understand that sentiment fully. As far as I could tell he speaks little English. I only know for sure he knows the words "elbow" and "foul".
Superb documentation
Glad you liked it
Nice work bro, the hand in suit had me 😂
Alexey Voevoda with long hair can be “ The Crow “ if they painted his face white and black eye shadow
Greeting from Russia. Great video! For sure deserves much more than just a like and subscription!
Thanks for your support and comment, friend!
Wow! Just Wow... I came across your content by accident and boy is it excellent. I guess all my searching with arm wrestling caught up with your videos. I remember all these people and I always wondered what happened to them as well.
Your content is downright awesome. The amount of information is just over the top, I am just floored by how much attention to detail you put into these videos and the quality of editing/flow of the story makes it extremely satisfying to keep watching. In fact, I was disappointed it was over.
Definitely earned my sub and cant wait to keep watching your videos!
Thanks for the sub, comment and general support. I'm glad you found my channel. :)
I'll strive to keep the quality up and not disappoint in the future.
@@armhistorian Thanks for the reply and you deserve the credit for how great the videos have been. I'm really impressed and being on RUclips since it started (and way before because I'm old) is saying a lot.
I really appreciate your efforts and hope it pays off for you, high quality informed videos like this aren't around often. Keep up the great work!
Great video brother! Alexy was definitely a force to be reckoned with. I hope he comes back as strong or even stronger than ever. It will make some excitig matches. Ol Tim Bresnan what's he upto is he retired or what?
Thanks for watching and joining in on the conversation!
I believe the last time I saw Tim pull was versus Matt Mask? And before that I think he pulled Derek Smith.
Tim Bresnan pulled Austin Jaggers at the Kentucky Battleground event this weekend. It seems Tim won but I don't know the score.
For their recent match, I was one of the people who said John was the underdog. Glad to be proven wrong. Congrats John! So happy he got the win in this historic match. Forever the goat 🐐💪🏻
Alexey shouldn’t feel too bad, there’s no shame losing to the goat. He gave it his all, he’s still a legend. As fans we all would love to see Alexey continue arm wrestling.
Awesome documentary!
Thanks for that!
That MMT match always gives me a good laugh.
The guy who was at one point and coulda been the best ever
This guy never really hit his full potential, probably could have been the best of all time, next to John that is.
I would have loved to see him progress further in AW. He was a very talented athlete.
Best armwrestler of all time in my opinion the only one that was able to beat Levan!
My favorite puller of all time , simple
One of the most interesting men in sports
Definitely had a very interesting life so far!
Nice video! One day I’ll be in one of these. 🤝💪
Thanks!
You're looking strong already, my man. Keep pushing it!
Alexey VS Travis July 23!!!
Good documentary. You put tremendous effort to made this video. Respect.
He's completed a lot in his life, I'd love to see him pull, again.
I’m glad John got a rematch and won.
Larger than life person!
His life was for sure interesting to research.
Some news says that He is making a comeback to arm wrestling in June or July .
Yes! I mention this in the video at around 16:05.
IMO the most athletic arm wrestler of all time. He's one of those guys who would have excelled at anything he put his mind to. And he's handsome and intelligent, too. Some guys get all the luck! LOL
Bros a gigachad
That's the second time someone has called him a gigachad in the comments.
Not exactly fall but he just chose a different sport even though he was at the pinnacle of armwrestling at that time
That's fair.
Title should've been the rise , and fall, and ride again ,and fall again lol
Haha yea. He had quite the rollercoaster of a career.
2004-2007 Alexey would crush anyone today.
There's no chance Levan loses to any Voyevoda
You are probably one of those delusional guys that also believes prime John Brzenk is the strongest armwrestler ever😂
@@marcusrasborg6874 I’ve never believe he was the strongest just most technical and smartest. He had strength but he excelled by getting people out of there stings spots and most of them weren’t as well rounded as John being able to pull from any position
@@StrongerThanBigfoot You are too delusional my friend🥸

In Veneto in Italy we have a saying "When i was young i used to jump ditches by the lenght" that is when your grandfather want to say that you are too lazy. This man really jumped ditches by the lenght 🤣
He has achieved sum rhing for his country . "Proud moments"
Would love to see Alexey Voevoda Armwrestle again..at East vs West or wherever..after Russia retreats from Ukraine...🇺🇦
Yes. Same here!
Russia will not retreat from Ukraine.
🔥🔥
I've never seen anyone hit as fast and hard
Rich mens wars destroying this comeback
Yo Arm Historian, can you do a Dragonball (aura/eyes) edit of Levan vs Ermes and win millions of views already. Arm wrestling is so underrated they dont have ANY good edits of the EPICEST OF BATTLES. But even without it you can be THE youtube guy for Arm Wrestling. You ROCK!
Thanks man! That's actually a good idea! Would require a lot of time in after effects though 😅
Alexey is coming back in arm wrestling, he is coming back.
One can hope..
@@armhistorian no no I am not lying, he is coming back.
@@kushalchatterjee9416 Yea, I've heard the rumours too. I even included them in the video.
I love when athletes just decide they want to become something else and they end up in the olympics a couple years later 😂
I like your videos bro
Thanks for taking the time to say that. It means a lot.
Anyone know how igor is doing ? Is he still alive and around. Hope all is well and he comes back.
I actually made a Rise and Fall episode on Igor too
1:10 thats actually his name meaning, voivode : a military commander or governor of a town or province in various Slavic countries. he aint lying.
the name voevoda means something like Lord, Earl or Count
4:25 holy shit no way that is Igor, what happened to him lol.
Pretty crazy right? He's all over the place as far as physiques go. From one year to the next he looks radically different.
@@armhistorian Just an idea came to my mind, how about a history of PAL video, they seem to be pretty much dead these days, but were around a long time and hosted some of the most iconic matches. I guess a history of any league would also be an interesting video.
@@Konjo316 yea! I've actually started on a history of WaL video, as it would slot in nicely after my game of arms video chronologically.
I'd love to do PAL. Good call!
@@armhistorian Keep up the good work man. Armwrestling needs a youtube channel like yours to document it's history. Thank you!
well clearly he worked for the medals for it to be taken away and to put up resistance to that, is understandable.
Sure. Outright denying any wrongdoing of him or his state might be considered more questionable though.
Nice! I wondered what came about him after that legendary documentary. Man is a walking legend.
I heard he might be competing in east vs west 8
I heard the rumblings too. I hope he will.
Wait a minute....he's a physical freak but couldn't pass the physical portion of the police academy?
Alexey, love from USA
Respect for Alexey! I root for his comeback at the highest levels! Vegan and kicking ass!
I'd want to see his return too. The fact that he's vegan and an animal rights activist is nice.

Vevoda in his prime would have been some match for Levan raw power.
I'd certainly love to see that.

We'll know more soon after his John match.
Did you see video, in which, Tim say, when talking to the beerman, that someone wanted to pay him to lose to Alexey?
Ah really? I did not see that.
@@armhistorian Yeah, the problem is that i dont remember which one xd, probably one of the first with Tim. It will be probably a pain to find it. Maybe Beerman will remember, or Uncle Jon.
Tim bresnan said they wanted him to loose that match. Also why they wouldn't let him pull anymore
Interesting. Do you remember where he said that? I'd like to learn more.
Well, if your surname means "respected guerilla military leader", you have to do something physically extraordinary in life 😁😁
Yea, I actually read about that! It sas somekind of military rank, right? Really interesting.
@@armhistorian exactly, the word "voyvoda" comes from "voyna" meaning war and "vodach" meaning leader, so literally war leader. If you are curious, there is a short wiki article about one of Bulgaria's most famous voyvodas - Petko Voyvoda. You will encounter another very interesting and important word concerning voyvodas and that is hajduk.
