Have you heard Forestella yet? More kpopera than kpop, but awesome still. "Champions" is here 'watch?v=6mPz30ZKg7Q = lots of parallel octaves and five key changes, and one hell of full out performance. "Hijo de la luna" is my personal favorite 'watch?v=LJc7wXa9JG8
Would you mind reacting to "s n o w" by sokodomo (ruclips.net/video/WPNCVtSQRc0/видео.html&ab_channel=WHOISsokodomo)? I just find the background instrumentals really interesting, wanted to see someone else's take on it.
Jackpot really is so under appreciated. It takes a massive swing at the entire k-pop industry with not just the lyrics but also the MV. They openly criticize how it's an extremely predatory industry and aspiring idols will be pulled in to stuff they weren't even remotely prepared for at a very vulnerable age, and it's also reflective of what they themselves when through with their first company. The actress being so young and vulnerable, approaching something she both wants and fears with more courage than what's good for her, going through a dub con transformation, ending up strong and confident enough to say her piece and then getting attacked for it is no coincidence.
Can I transcribe what you said in the MV section, please? Or you can do it yourself; because I didn't noticed the actual meaning of the video and now feel a shame, since it's my favorite Block B song! This way more people can discover the actual meaning!
2014 was when 3rd gen groups really started to bring new sounds into kpop. Block B was always doing their own thing and that's always made them stand out. Nothing is off limits because they can pull it all off.
Yeah I think them showing off their super wide range all in three minutes was sort of their way saying screw conformity, we're more than that. I love them for it.
Agreed, though I would more likely categorize Block B as gen 2.5 since they debuted in 2011, which was on the edge of the end of gen 2. 2013 being the last year of gen 2.5. Same with groups like B.A.P, Nuest, EXO, E.X.I.D, and AOA, who debuted in 2012. Though it's really a blurry line when it comes to defining the generations. I'd say that 2014 was the start of Gen 3 since it had such notable debuts like Red Velvet, Got7, Mamamoo, Lovelyz, and AKMU.
@@breakforthechorus6230 2012 was the start of gen 3. Although technically a generation is every 10 years. So it can be more easily categorized as the following: Gen 1 is the 90s, gen 2 2000s, Gen 3 2010s, and now gen 4.
Another thing worth mentioning is that the ferry tragedy hit them really hard. Not only did they cancel their promotions of the song that was supposed to have lifted their career onto another level, but they lost a fan and genuinely grieved them. Zico has the yellow ribbon for the support organization for the survivors and families tattooed on his arm and printed on all his solo merch, donating regularly to the foundation.
Ferry tragedy hit really HARD. I remember we were all depressed for few weeks. And that atmosphere back in 2014 was worse than current covid 19. I still get traumatized for that.
@F.B.I - Federal Bureau of Investigation Actually come to think of it we or maybe I was sorta into the accident just too much. And using such word is just unappropriate. But somehow watching 300ish people stucked in that damn ship and dying slowly got me into panic for several weeks. I dont have any words to explain how I felt but the closest one was trauma. Still cant figure out why I was so relating to those kids died in that accident.
@F.B.I - Federal Bureau of Investigation Go take your over traumatised, desensitised, needy for attention, wounded by toxic masculinity soul out of my comment and go have a nap. PR and communication advisor who worked at a national tv station during multiple nationally and internationally traumatic events’ orders. It’s not up to you to police or judge other people’s trauma.
"i think clowns kind of soothe me" is NOT the take i expected to hear today lmaoo Aside from that, I'm always very glad to have Stephen here to break down the cool rhythmic things that happen!
@@broidk8910 they aren't exactly active as a group right now and it's unknown if/when they'll do it again. And kpop kind of moves fast, if you don't stay relevant enough you could be pushed away. I love Block B but they have never been lucky with the management.
In an interview when Zico was asked what songs are he's favourite/he is the most proud of, he mentioned Jackpot (and few others.) And then said he wouldn't be able to make Jackpot anymore cause it has so many elements and he does not know how he made all of them work together so well.
Nobody does it like Block B, they didn't follow trends, they just made their own thing. They will forever be one of my favourite groups ever. Jackpot is amazing, so underrated and it is genuine, this song is very Block B. Zico is a genius.
block B has one of my favourite career progressions in their generation, so versatile but always slightly and majorly whimsical. The only group who has successfully been this chaotic is red velvet I love
playlist for you :-) includes all their music, even their individual stuff in the past 2 years since theyre enlisting open.spotify.com/user/daaneesee/playlist/57c7Eb14afVDrql4xK5MNA?si=UIt1ocy3Ry-n6PhPFU-dgg
block b’s entire discography is full of bangers, Jackpot is deffo one of my favourite title tracks along with HER, Toy, NalinA and Yesterday. Every title track slaps basically haha. I do hope that after everyone finishes enlistment, they’re are able to have a comeback.
Man this is still a criminally underrated song and one of my favorite Block B title tracks as well. It's really unfortunate timing for their comeback at the time, which definitely hurt their career. I love how Block B always brought something unique to kpop that you couldn't really find in any other groups, so much that now they are kind of inspirations to younger groups. Being an ATINY, I'm really glad Ateez has kept some of that energy and fun that Block B always brought to their performance element. Makes me both a proud BBC and Atiny at the same time.
Oh this absolutely! I was a huge fan of Block B back in the day, but it really felt like they really had odds stacked against them. Controversies, turbulence with companies, etc. Being unique was hard in an industry wanting marketable sounds for globalization! BASTARZ was a lovely sub-group, and filled some niche spaces, and happy to know Zico's still out producing bangers and has KOZ. But super felt on the ATEEZ thing! They actually brought me back from a Kpop hiatus, because their energy just screamed BLOCK B to me. (I saw their Kingdom performance The Awakening of Summer, and thought it had Very Good vibes. To know they like their seniors so much, It made sense! I am so happy I came back to the Kpop scene to see ATEEZ, Stray Kids, and Xdinary Heroes shaking up the Kpop scene!)
I really like the editing of this one! Love it when you add the the snippet of the song that the musicians are commenting on cos it makes everything clearer and more interesting to watch :D
I freaking miss Block b, watching this video made me realize how much. They always stood out and had this crazy videos and music concepts that made me gravitate towards them.
Block B 4th Mini Album H.E.R is still one of my favourite albums in kpop. All the tracks are good and they everyone were a new sound for 2014 kpop. They were so ahead of their time! Block B is one of the best 3rd generation boyband and it's a pity that they are so underrated between new kpop stans.
I'm still not over Jason saying that x'D Ju Young used to be into K-Pop in the early 2010s so we bond over a lot of music/artists together during film sessions and poor Jason is just sitting there not knowing what to do......
i literally search for this yd and were like “hm no i guess they never did jackpot” but here we are today! 😂👀 i used to like block b so much some years ago and fell into a nostalgia trip while procrastinating yesterday

honestly, this is the first time i'm watching the mv n same... clowns=creepy. anyway, i hope you guys or just anyone reading this comment would give a try to The Unit cover of Jackpot. The Unit really was one of the survival show with most solid talents since they're mostly debuted (underrated)idols looking for 2nd/final chance to revive their career n Jackpot was i dare say, one of the standout stage from the show. n that stage had some of the best vocals from the female contestants n they really made the song their own. sadly the show was still just as underrated.
