Very illuminating Marcus. I've had my Audi A2 TDi in UK for 19 years from almost new. My equivalent cost over 130k km is 0.36 euros/km cf your 0.26 euros - you win!.
I'm thinking it's time for an electric. I was thinking of an ID.3 (I liked the test drive) but used prices are still crazy. So I might go for a BMW i3. Less range but I can get low mileage (6k km) 2 year old one for about 29k euros.

      Hello Alan,
I think you will be happy with an ID.3 or BMW i3. Providing you don´t do long trips often, the BMW i3 will be great.
      Many thanks,
      Marcus

Not only did you enjoy a fine EV at a good price, it also enabled you to launch an informative RUclips channel!

Good review! You are going to need TeslaFi when you get your Tesla and throw away your red book as you won't need it anymore... My first Tesla M3 SR+ cost £41,500 and I sold it 1 year later for £38,000 after doing 14,000 miles. Charging cost were £230 and the money saved £2,300 petrol) got me a new Tesla M3 SR+ LFT car at £41,000. Yes, EV can be very cheap to run...

Thank you, Kelvin. My red book is old school technology 🤣 You seem to be saving a fortune on petrol 👍 Do you like your LFP Tesla M3?

Hi Marcus, well done and I think you've got a good price for your ID.3. I have an ID.3 Pro 58kWh and one reason of shying away from M3 is the lack of hatch back and the one screen interface

      Hello Theo,
Not having a hatch back and only having a one screen interface are both things I do not like on the Model 3, also :-)
However, I am looking forward to the extra range, 100% daily charging and higher charge speed.
I would love an ID.3 77kWh, but they are just not available in Portugal :-(
      Many thanks,
      Marcus

Hi Marcus, I am just stunned and impressed. It was the red book that did it. I kneel and bow. An EV owner with that record is just impressive. 😊
I agree. The EV ownership is a good business compared with traditional fossile car. What impressed on me was the fact you do the major charging at fast charger.
In my case it's the opposit, I do almost all charging at home and can enjoy even lower cost with night tarrifs.

Thank you, Jorgen. I was surprised I did so much public charging, but I do travel to the Algarve a lot, and there is only public charging there for me. The public charging was DC and AC, probably more AC I need to check in the red book 🤣 I think I need to do a red book video, month by month 🤔 I even know the highest and lowest petrol price month. 😂

According to a major web portal in Sweden, the price (median price) of all used cars in Sweden fell from January 2023.
      Diesel fell by 3.61%
      Petrol car fell 2.56%
      The electric car fell 1.27%
The hybrid car fell just 0.31%
The median price for a used electric car in Sweden was SEK 390,000. About €35,000. Looking on the web right now the price for the ID.3 (2021) 58kWh is around €32,300, and that's from a car dealer. I think your price was quite reasonable.

@Jörgen Norén You are the best. That was also my thinking. I was worried that if I did not accept the 30k€, I would get less. Plus, I thought the Tesla Model 3 was a week away 🤣🤣🤣 I think paying 302 € a month for a VW ID.3 was a bargain, especially considering how good the car was 👍 I did love that car.

You are well organised! Very impressed.
I have an ID3 family pro. Average use 3.9 kwh per mile.
It’s a good starter can if anyone is changing to electric.
You have proved that distance is no orobk m with the ID3
    No range anxiety!
Thank you or an excellent post!

Money in the hand? Worth it 👍🏼
I always hated the selling process, so good on ya for getting it done.
I watched a gentleman in Colorado, current Audi owner, order and pickup his first ev - Model 3.
He was in and out in literally minutes at Tesla. He said his Audi purchase pickup was a four hour event
With all the typical dealership BS. Tesla has the sales process looking much more appealing.
    Will you record your pickup?
    BTW, nice haircut, bro 👌🏼

Thank you, Mario. Money for the win 🤣
      Selling a car is horrible.
Whne I picked up my ID.3 it did not take four hours. It was less than one hour. You are correct. If you cut out the dealerships, there are huge savings.
I am not sure I will film the actual pickup, as I don't think it is correct to film people who are working. However, as soon as I get out of Tesla, I will film the ride home with my impressions.

Great analysis Marcus. It’s really helpful to get real world data, so much more useful than car magazine reviews. I have a different mix of driving in my ID3 with more city and national road driving and less motorway driving than you. Over 20,000km, I have got 15..2kwh per 100km, so I think that is as good as you can get in an ID3. Looking forward to hearing all about your experience with the Tesla Model 3

Thanks for sharing your costs of ownership.
You must include the 40k purchase price and ROI on the car investment, to make a comparison with the leasing offer of 500 €/month. If you burrowed the 40k to buy the car at 4 % interest, it would be an additional expense of 4k in your period..
If instead you put your 40k into S&P 500 index stocks, they would have increased to 47k in value over that period of time.
Subtracting the €250 gains per month from the €500 lease per month, makes the lease deal comparable or cheaper than purchasing outright.
Here in Denmark you can leave your 36 month lease after 12 months. Your initial downpayment is then lost and if it is substantial, it makes the only 12 months period much more expensive per month.

I think in some countries leasing is a better option, and usually it is a fixed cost. In Portugal usually the leasing deals are very bad. 👍

Thanks very much for doing that and the analysis. I'm about to get my first EV, so the information is reassuring. I'm impressed by your 'red' book (I think I would of used a Google Docs spreadsheet) , such useful information. I hope the Tesla works out for you.

According to your values, you car cost you €39.980 and you sold it for €30.000,00 so it's a 25% devaluation in 28 months. You also claim to have spent €230,00 in maintenance and €2104,44 in both in public and domestic charging to run 40.000KM for 28 months. Round numbers, the car costed you a total of €12.314,44 during 28 months or €439,80/month.
I own a Volvo V40, which is comparable to the ID3 (it's a hatchback). It cost me €26.000. It has a consumption of 6L/100KM ; I pay annually €350,00 maintenance. If we follow the same exercise in my ICE, a 25% devaluation would cost me €6500; assuming an average cost of fule of €1,50/L for the same period (the cost of fuel is currently abnormally high due to the war), it'd cost me €3600,00 to run the same 40.000KM. With an anual maintenance of €350,00 (€700,00), my car would cost me a total of €10.800,00 for the same period or €385,00/month.

      Hello Max.
As stated in the video, I received a free wall box which I kept which is worth 1000€. The total cost of my car was therefore €38,980. In the video I also mentioned that VW gave me 600 € in free charging, so my charging costs were 2104€ - 600€ which is 1504€.
Charging for me was even cheaper because I charged via solar for most of the home charging. I did not include this in the calculation.
The cost of petrol over that period was only under 1.50€/l for 1 month. All the other months the average price of petrol was more expensive, the highest price being 2.21€. As I calculated the actual petrol price over those 28 months, for your Volvo V40 it would have been €4286 at 6l/100kms. The total cost for your Volvo V40 over the same period would have been €11,486 which is €410/month. The total cost for my ID.3 using was €382.64/month.
      Many thanks,
      Marcus
