Great tutorial but I do have a safety suggestion for you. When using a rotary cutter, always cut away from yourself and never towards yourself. It’s very easy to have an accident & those blades are deadly. I’ve knocked a finger twice myself.🥰🤗
OMG Girl you scared me with your rotary cutter .Never cut towards yourself and close the blade after each cut ! We love you and everything you do , so please be safe♡♡♡♡♡ Thanks for the video !
Just found this video. Excellent tutorial. So glad someone mentioned cutting away from yourself with that rotary cutter…you were making me so nervous. Love the bow and button.
You did very well in your video. I am impressed at how well you explained it all as a novice seamstress! Some terms you will learn along the way is “right sides together” rather than fabric side. Also you could save a little time sewing your back seam by just back stitching, clipping your thread, moving down a bit and going again….no need to stop and take out pins and turn it around to sew. You did a great job and your pillows are so cute!
25:08 for bow and covered button tutorial…. LOVE that covered button technique, I think I need one of those for everything LOL… really nice pillow tutorial, I’m an experienced quilter but really found your pillow back technique smart to offset the center seam. Thanks!
Love the tutorial. That tip on how to do the back is brilliant. I'm sure someone has already mentioned this but rotary cut away from yourself. It is safer and easier to control.
Loved your video, you did a great job. I also love the method of cutting the back pieced and then stitch with opening. I am going to do that with all my pillows now. But as others have commented, please change the way you use your rotary cutter. I have been sewing for over 50 years and quilting for 30 and you should never cut toward yourself! Very Very dangerous. Place cutter closest to you then push away from yourself to cut. Your pillows are awesome
That was a great tutorial! I laughed out loud when you hit the covered button with the tape measure. I wondered how to get mine to stay! Thanks for sharing! You are a natural teacher!
I just found your flosstube and watched the last one, which mentioned this video. What a great tutorial!! I know that folks mentioned about the cutting direction for the rotary cutter, but did anyone mention to close the cutter when you sit it down? Heard recently that one lady had to get stitches in her foot because she left the blade open to turn fabric and when she turned the fabric, the cutter got knocked off the table and cut her foot. May God continue to bless you and yours!
I like the way you did the opening in the back. You did a great job on the instructions and video! Since it’s already been said about the rotary cutter I won’t mention it😉💕
I’m so glad you did this video - I love the little cross-stitch pillows, but honestly wasn’t sure if I could manage making one. Your video is very clear and now I totally think I can do this! Thank you for being courageous - I’ll try it too! Oh! And thank you for the covered button part as well - love it! 🍁🍁🍁
Great video. You were clear and concise with your instructions. I have done pillows before but learned some new tips from you. Will definitely look for the invisible ink pen. Thank you!
Great tutorial. You did great. So glad in your comments they told you the right way to use your rotary cutter. Be safe and thanks again for a great tutorial.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. It is very helpful to those of us who are not comfortable finishing pillows. I've admired your pillows in your flosstubes. Your are so creative in your finishing.
Hi Christi - - great video - you shouldn't be nervous, you do a fantastic job. Please be careful with the direction of your rotary cutter - they can be nasty ! ! ! Thanks for the video !
Great video!!! I have two pillows to finish. I love how you cut the back piece in two. I have never seen anyone do that. I love how it looks and will use that method to finish mine. Thanks!
I know that I am way late on watching this video, but just started making pillows! I am a retired teacher ~ you did an excellent job of teaching how to do this! Your pillows are beautiful, thank you so much for sharing with us.
Loved the video....best tip for me was if your bow is not perfect to slide the button one direction or another. It was like a DUH moment for me.....why didn't I think of that. Thanks for taking the time and for stepping outside your comfort zone to help the rest of us learn your finishing techniques.
Awesome tutorial Christi!! Thanks for showing how to make a covered button. I think I will get the kit now. I sew, but wouldn't have thought to do the small hole in back...so much neater. Thanks again. Happy August!! Hugs
From start to finish wonderful information. When cutting with a rotary cutter you are always to cut away from your body, other wise a job well done. Thank you for sharing your information.
I'm a new subscriber and your backing method is the smartest I've seen. I see I need not warn you about your rotary cutter. I have a nasty scar on my foot from not closing my cutter. Thanks again for this method.
Christi, you videotaped an amazing tutorial for making a pillow! You explained everything so well. I can’t wait to make a pillow using fabric along with the cross stitch. What a great way to finish the back! Thanks for showing how to do the button too. I always look forward to your videos, and this one will help me so much!
So cute! I love your tape measure hammer technique. I will definitely be referring to this video again and again as I make my pillows. Thank you so much for making this video. You did a wonderful job!
Thanks so much for your great video! I don't sew, but recently a friend gave me a machine that was no longer being used. I hope I can make pillows half as good as yours!
Christi, loved this tutorial. You did great! I’ve been sewing for a long time and I could never do a video. I’d be sew nervous. You explained everything so well. The idea of cutting the back fabric and then whip stitching it closed was awesome🧵
Thank you for the wonderful video,You did a great job and that pillow with the turquoise and red so perfect! Love it! ☺️ and ,Yes alway cut away from yourself…nice to know there is such a helpful and caring community out there watching Floss Tube!🥰
You did great....ty for doing this video...you explained everything really well...I love all your finishes they are always so pretty and elegant looking..,..
I had never even considered making a pillow only because I thought it would be too hard! Your instructions are so easy to follow that I see a pillow in my future! Thank you for showing us how to do this! Great job!
Awesome tutorial!!! Love how you make your pillows. Thanks for taking the time to do a tutorial. I held my breath when you were cutting toward yourself with the rotary cutter. One little slip and you could hurt yourself. Try cutting away from you. Great job! 💕🧵
You are a good teacher. You may have less frustration with your seams if you sew around first, then trim. Less chance of fabric moving. I have a pillow to make, this was so helpful.
Thanks for the pillow finishing tutorial! I have some tiny spooky Halloween cross stitch projects that I want to finish, and this is perfect. You’ve done a great job teaching - I’d never have known you were nervous!
Great tutorial - I'm a long time sewer but still I picked up a tip from you that I loved. Cutting the back fabric in half - awesome tip, will make a much neater back than sewing a raw cut opening. You can also close that opening with a blind stitch and it will disappear totally.
Lovely finishing tutorial - I hope you continue to share your finishing ideas with everyone! I do believe that you have clearly gotten the message about always cutting away from yourself with the rotary cutter - but equally important is the need to retract/close that blade EVERY time you lay it down. It’s so easy to bump your hand on that open blade and suddenly there is blood everywhere! It only takes a second to close…and becomes an automatic thing in time. Sure beats the time you’ll lose going in for stitches - and it’s pretty hard to cross stitch with bandages on your fingers…😉
Love your tutorial. For being nervous you did a great job. I agree that you should never ever cut towards you when using a rotary cutter. Been a quilter for 40 years now and you are the first person I’ve seen use a cutter that way. But we have got to give you kudos for the video being new to sewing. It gets easier believe me. Still love your creativity.
Christi, thanks for the awesome tutorial…you are very patient with the pillow and yourself…not getting in a hurry to finish quickly…loved all your instructions and hope to show this tutorial to my grandgirl and help her to achieve pillow making…she is thirteen and we are making her first jell roll quilt…wishing you joy and happy stitching/finishing❤️

Great tutorial but I do have a safety suggestion for you. When using a rotary cutter, always cut away from yourself and never towards yourself. It’s very easy to have an accident & those blades are deadly. I’ve knocked a finger twice myself.🥰🤗
Thank you Peggy, I know I’ve already cut myself with the blade once before, thank you for the tip , so appreciate it❤️😊
Made me so nervous…I know someone who ended up in the ER from cutting towards herself. 😢😢😢
What a great tutorial! Make a pillow…tie a bow…cover a button!!! You covered it all ! TFS…
It was so nice to see you pop up on the feed today. I loved your video and you always have such good ideas. Thank you. Happy Stitching.
