This mansion is now owned. Please do not visit if you know the location. There are people living inside. We visited in early 2021.

I live very near this house, we went to view as a possible joint purchase with others, you guys did it proud. Although the area to the rear was very dilapidated . It has been sold again but this time with planning consent for quite a few houses as well. The last people to live there were four families in their own flats.

I think it’s a real shame that modern buildings are not built with such beautiful architectural features in mind. What’s an even bigger shame is that many of the skills required to build in this beautiful style, will be sadly lost with time 😢

That mansion is stunningly beautiful! Between the wood ceilings, the stained glass, all the carvings in the wood and stone, it is gorgeous! Maybe the less ornate rooms were for servants. Such a shame to see it just sit and decay! Thank you for the video!

Nice to see it's been kept in fairly good condition and looks like it has been used a residence until recently. But signs that decay is starting to creep in. Loved the small scale grandness of it. These type of places used to end up as outdoor centres or recording studios. Would make a neat base for an Urbex team with rooms for post work and it's own cinema to preview films! (ok we can dream...) Great work Urbandoned team! 👍

Fascinating video as always chaps, thanks for posting. I always wonder, in these beautiful older properties, all the folk that have lived there over the decades and the history they have left within the fabric of the building, the fires that people have sat in front off swirling a brandy around etc. Would love to have the cash to buy this one and retire to the countryside!

    • @Urbandoned

A home has an infinite amount of memories over generations of residents. That's why there is often a strange feeling whilst exploring them. Luckily with this one, there is less personal remain and more architecture to focus on, which definitely helps. We wished we had the money to blow on this one, too!

  • @Chrisss2112

Nice video exploration & your voice is pleasant to listen to.🤗
Sad that amazing places like this have been partly left to rot, probably a family feud or something. Property is expensive to upkeep.
Enjoyed the tour, long looks at the stained glass & woodwork much appreciated. All that plaster work too, really fancy.
Nice to imagine what has been in that safe. Royal Jewels maybe.. There are some modern fittings, then seeing the
Wifi box on is a good clue someone is looking after it.
Hopefully it will be lived again in ~by a nice community hopefully. I'd love to know what River that is, or hint to what area of Scotland.
Thanks, take care on your adventures 💕🐱🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I think that new builds are really lacking in character. I’m sure you will agree, and I really think it’s a terrible shame that we are gradually losing these historic gems, not just in this country, but around the world, and more needs to be done to save these properties from deteriorating and disappearing.

    • @Urbandoned
      @Urbandoned  2 года назад +2

We do agree, although it's a necessary cost to reduce homelessness in the country. More should be done to prevent the older buildings that are the survivors in order to stop them from crumbling to the ground, due to the historical values they carry in relation to when they were built.

10:15 I used to install kitchens and bathrooms and the fanciest place that I was a part of had a kitchen with about as much countertop space as this.....(with the addition of a 6'x8' (183cm x 244cm) Island in the middle), all made out of granite, which I think I am seeing in this video, and the cost (minus the island) was over $50,000.
If I am right, and its harder to tell, because of how dirty the room is, then they were picking top notch material to work with, at least with the countertops. That also looks like the part of the home that was designated as a more relaxed area of the house, probably former servants areas where they were more at liberty to make personal mods to the house without ruining its historical features.
I hope that some of the restoration work still needs to move that direction, or that there are plans for it!

I have heard that in places in Europe, buying a home like that and doing work means that you have to use original materials and have the work done in the traditional way. I keep thinking that applied to France, but I am kinda ignorant and was wondering if anyone knew more about that, especially in regards to the laws in Scotland. (I was also thinking that those laws applied to buildings in England as well)
