I'm a software engineer and was too lazy to really get into directly finding an answer as I was sure someone else should have it scouted and explained, and possibly solved. The problem, as the Intel paper references it, basically suggests that if you have any USB 3.0 devices at all, there's an interference risk - hard drive or not.For me, that's a problem because I probably have 10+ USB devices connected in some way to my PC with 2 hubs (one 7 port), and none of them are external hard drives so...? Honestly knowing this information is great because I can judge what shifting I want to do, or just give up on any wireless device. Or maybe Use some sort of crazy extension to pull those dongles as far away from anything USB 3.0 as possible (which is pretty impossible to do these days). I really appreciate it and hope you continue to keep up the great work
I got some razer devices on sale last year: Razer Nari Ultimate & Razer Viper Ultimate. Both operate on the 2.4ghz spectrum. I was confused as to why they worked flawlessly when I first bought the computer but randomly stopped working when I moved my computer to a different room. Turns out MY KEYBOARD has 2 modes. One is usb 2.0 and the other usb 3.0 (Ducky Shine 7) I changed this by pressing Left Alt + Spacebar while plugging in the keyboard and it fixed all my issues! Just for safe measure I also moved all my usb 3.0 devices to the bottom usb ports on my desktop and the wireless dongles to the top ports! Thanks for this video.
You may also get random disconnects, when your USB 3.0 HDD is drawing more current during spin-up, and no current is left to drive the BT dongle correctly on the same USB hub on your motherboard. This can happen during the spin-up process of your HDD after sitting in powersave-mode for a while. The disk motor usually draws high current from USB during this process. You can avoid this by using an external power source for your HDD or using an actively powered USB 3.0 hub for it.
@@zulu2kk I said actively powered USB hub. Not an active power hub. It's quite a difference 😉 An actively powered USB hub gets it's power from an external power source, not the PC or laptop.
Thought it might be an annoying video at first but after analyzing my setup I figured which USB port my headphones should be in and just like that problem fix , Thanks!
That is absolutely what I needed to hear. I don’t use an external hard drive on my laptop but I have my cooling pad hooked into a usb next to my wireless transmitter. Sounds like I just need to do some tweaking of what gets plugged into where. Thank you!!
If you're using a laptop and on wifi it's also possible your laptops wifi could be interfering with your headsets wireless signal. It's possible the USB port your headsets wireless dongle is connected to is too close to the wireless adapter in the computer which would also cause interference on the 2.4GHz band.
Thank you for that advice too. I’ve got three USB’s on the left side of the laptop. It seems that the one closest to me is the safe bet. The other wires are the charge cable for the headset (when needed) and the power cable for the cooling pad. The extra usb on the cooling pad goes to my Bluetooth mouse charging cable (when needed). When I set it up this specific way it seems the headset works best. Once in a great while I hear the audio crackle in the “attempt” to disconnect but it doesn’t all the way. It’s frustrating since ALL of my equipment is less than 3 weeks old lol.
You have a bluetooth mouse you say? Bluetooth operates at 2.45GHz so it's possible that could be causing some interference. I'm not sure if connecting to a 5GHz wifi network would be a problem or not. I'm thinking it would not cause interference since it's on a different frequency but I'm not 100% sure about that. I'd have to do some research and learn more about that.
wish i found this video before buying a new headset that still had the same problem moved my headset dongle to the keyboard usb and bingo its working but watched anyway to confirm i wasnt going crazy. thank you for taking the time to educate and putting this video
I appreciate the video. I was having this issue with the wireless headsets on both my XBOX One and PS4. Both have external hard drives. Is there a specific cable that can be used to help limit the RFI noise?

Watching your video made me curious and I found out Bluetooth is 2.45Ghz. Problem SOLVED! Awesome research and explanation tyvm.

I later noticed it came with a 3ft extension, I connected it, Cable manged it with my other cables. it's now about 3ft away from the other connections. It runs flawlessly! THANK YOU SO MUCH I ALMOST WENT TO A CABLE HEADSET!
8 minutes of talking in 1 minute of information
Holy shit!!! I have my wireless headset receiver and a controller charging station plugged in next to each other on my PS4. My headset would disconnect at random times. I saw your video and unplugged my charging station. My headset stayed connected throughout my gaming session!!! Thank you for your in depth video!
who is watching this with no sound
This video is amazing. Do you have any experience with two bluetooth headsets in the same room? We keep disconnecting each other's headset when using youtube.
It’s called a dongel ya dingle
Ha ha. I have a friend that would say something like that to me. Thanks man. :D

Yes your video did help me and I love that you explain exactly why it wasn't workingand that you went to the length of finding out all the information and I too love to learn and pass on that knowledge. Some people don't like to learn I've noticed in my life and those people will always have an empty cup of knowledge I am now a subscriber.
Awesome. Happy to hear how much you enjoyed the video. I'm glad I was able to share some knowledge with you. Cheers bro! :)
Wow. This solve my mystery with my new wireless headset disconnect alot on ps4. Thank.
zicapoo getting ready to try it now
My god...how is this not more widespread knowledge. I had my Wireless headset dongle in USB 3 right next to the cable for my external harddrive.
Thank you Jesus!!! Something finally works! lol. I mean, I know you're not Jesus, but it's close enough hehehe. Thank you!
Why so many dislikes? Thank you for this video, I know i'm late. My arctis 1 were turning on and off constatly making a annoying beeping noise. This seemed to solve the issue, you an angel. Nice explanation too not everybody does that.
Do you think it's the same situation with a gaming console? Lucid sound headset keeps cutting in and out. Great videos btw!!
You ever find this out man? Having same issue now
I’m trying to unplug external HD but have to move some games over so I’m waiting lol
This fix still works, and I have moved all my stuff around and so far so good! No cutting out and the "static wind" sound in my corsair headset is also GONE! Thanks man!
As soon as you said 2.4Ghz I knew it was because I was playing around with my wifi last night which is 1 foot away from my Logitech USB receiver. After moving the modem away and also placing my Logitech USB in the front port 3.0, it's now crystal clear. Thank you, you have taught me a lot!!
Happy to hear the video helped you. Cheers man. :)
Thanks for the Video, it actually solved my problem, had 2 WD external Hds plugged in right next to the Wireless dongle, moved dongle to front USB ports now all is fine.
I had the same problem with my Razer Blackshark v2 pro wireless. This works very well so far ! Thank you !!
Glad it helped. :)
Dude, thank you so much, this is such a weird and unknown problem that i couldn't find a solution on the forums, on a ticket, or really anywhere. Ty
Omg I have been looking for an answer to this problem for months now with no luck what so ever. This fixed the problem instantly thank you so much bud. You are a life saver.
Awesome. It always makes me happy to hear when this video helps someone. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. Cheers! :)
I had quite literally just got a brand new pair of Astro A30's today and was having this problem and just couldn't figure out what was going on. I'm so happy that you explained it because I would have never guessed this was a problem that my Toshiba EXHD was causing. I don't get why this video has even more than 100 dislikes on it.
What’s a active power hub
@@zulu2kk I said actively powered USB hub. Not an active power hub. It's quite a difference 😉
An actively powered USB hub gets it's power from an external power source, not the PC or laptop.
If I’m connected to a 5ghz signal does it still broadcast a 2.4ghz signal?
You have a bluetooth mouse you say? Bluetooth operates at 2.45GHz so it's possible that could be causing some interference. I'm not sure if connecting to a 5GHz wifi network would be a problem or not. I'm thinking it would not cause interference since it's on a different frequency but I'm not 100% sure about that. I'd have to do some research and learn more about that.
Thank you once again for the quick reply. You’ve gave me some insight on some things to play around with.
wish i found this video before buying a new headset that still had the same problem moved my headset dongle to the keyboard usb and bingo its working but watched anyway to confirm i wasnt going crazy. thank you for taking the time to educate and putting this video
Damn... moving headset receiver helped and fixed the problem. Also a good approach on explaining why it is not function properly. Thx
my turtle beach stealth 600 headset for xbox keeps disconnecting. someone help
I appreciate the video. I was having this issue with the wireless headsets on both my XBOX One and PS4. Both have external hard drives. Is there a specific cable that can be used to help limit the RFI noise?
Keep sharing information my man that’s the way 👍👍
I was having this problem with the headsets Wi-Fi connector and Bluetooth connection. So I sent the headset back to Amazon and got a new one. Same thing. Decided todo research and found your video. Watching your video made me curious and I found out Bluetooth is 2.45Ghz. Problem SOLVED! Awesome research and explanation tyvm.
Thanks for the useful info here, does this also hold true for wireless headsets that have no dingle, just Bluetooth connection for pc?
Thank you! I had my receiver next to the USB 3.0, moved it far away to a 2.0 and that fixed the issue. You Rock!
I am surprised that the solution to that problem i had for a while is so simple, yet so obvious. Thank's a lot for helping me! Great video!
I first thought clickbait, but WOW! This solved my problems instantly. right beside the dongle there was an usb3.0 data stick. As soon as I plug it out, the range quadruples! Thanks! :-)
Happy to hear the video helped you learn something new. Enjoy. :)
Thank you man! It was really helpful. I love the way you explain everything! Keep it like that brother!
Lol, I purchased a new SkullCandy Hesh Evo headset and couldn't figure out why it kept disconnecting at weird times...honestly, when it announces "disconnected", it scares the shit out of me (not expecting it of course). Thank you for "digging deeper" and questioning this subject.
Thanks for the video. 5 years later i'm facing the same problem. your video helped me, thank you so much!
i know this video is getting pretty old, but thank you man. every time i connected my quest 2 to my pc my headphones would just start disconnecting, it really made me quit playing vr for a while because of one audio issue
Thank you so much! didnt even know that the usb 3.0 interefes with the dongles i got at my back panel, i was about to send back the wireless set that i bought 1 day ago, you saved me!
That was... Super helpful. I wish this was common knowledge.
Thanks maraksot78. This was very useful. The issue I am currently facing however is that my USB Bluetooth adapter is constantly flashing and it is very distracting. Is there a setting to turn off the flashing light or do I need to buy another one from a different brand?
I just fixed my wireless headphone issue thanks to you. Thanks!
