the follow cam is a reallllly nice addition here Steve! It makes the trail difficulty become alive, and its shows your riding skills all the better. Nice work!
Dude That was some solid climbing ! Great review. This bike reminds me of my honzo esd, Loves blacks and double blacks and still has fun every where else. If I only have one bike to bring with me on trip it’s always the esd because I know I’ll have fun no matter what and will feel confident to try the crazy stuff if the need arise. To me a really well designed steal agressive hardtail is the closest thing to the elusive ‘quiver killer’
Awesome review as always, follow cam was a great addition. I had to laugh about your "wet" trails. I'd kill for my local trails to be like that. I'm hoping I can finally get a shakedown ride on my Maniak this weekend.
When you are this excited it's contagious. Too much snow here to ride trail but seeing you gets me stoked. Only so many weeks til it's melted enough to mtb. Thanks Steve!
Awesome Steve! That takes technical climbing skills to the next level! We have a few short trail sections like that in my So Cal mountains but definitely not for long sections.
I been looking forward to this! I recentas got a new frame and it (unfortunatly) wasnt this one.. but it was what i would have wanted if the cost was not an issue… Im 6’5 and i ride a bike with the same chanstay leanght and really like that… This slighlty lower BB i think made so much sense looking at geos.. and you kinda went there quick on your analysis.. glad ive been able to ride over winter but it looks like im back to saving!
Any plan to review the new Marin San Quentin? Now it has shorter seat tube and higher stack. I just got a RSD middle child but curious to see how the new San Quentin
Looks so good! I love a shreddy bike that can play. Great video and riding as well Steve, as always. I'm curious - have you ever given the Stif Squatch a go? It's got a ridiculously low BB, but otherwise seems quite compelling. Would be a cool one to hear your thoughts on if you ever get your hands on it!

Hey man, great Vid, I’ve got a question, most aluminum frames have the tapered steerer tube, but steel frames don’t have the taper, are the forks interchangeable or do you need straight steerer for steel and tapered for aluminum? Many thanks
Hey Steve is it true that perhaps a more begginnerish rider could benefit from a more slacked out bike even on easier trails (what an experienced rider might considered too slack for said trails) in order to gain confidence, maybe so they spend less time being scared and more time having fun..?
I don't think so. Slack bikes are best on steep terrain. They don't usually ride great on mellower trails. So, slacker isn't always better, it really depends on which trails you're intending to ride.
@@hardtailparty Ah okay, makes sense. This was advice from a shop trying to get my gal on a 140/150mm and decently slack bike when we're really just looking to do fun mellow singletrack and fireroads...I just kept thinking "man I wouldn't want to peddle that much bike just for the extra margin of ease on the occasional tricky part of the trail," but that was the basic concept they were espousing. I'll hit ya up on patreon for some follow ups. Thanks for the channel here, so rad!!
Shoutout to Dave for the follow shots.
Dave is the best
That climbing at around the 2-3 minute mark was top notch!

The follow cam!! So refreshing to see it from outside the personal ggggggo pro.
Great to have the view of the follow cam.
It was clear this was going to be special! This is the closest ride review to what we both expected. Kudos to them! Nice work on those climbs wow!
This thing is a great climber!

@@cycling_plurality different. I do my detailed comparisons over on Patreon. :)
Nice to see you riding with the high schooler. This really looks like quite the bike.
The follow-cam shots on the climb were amazing. Steve, you're a beast! I can't believe you made that switchback on Templeton in one.

Yes Steve! The requested pedal cam, my guy!
Great bike. Reminds me of another bike I would love to see you review. The pipedream moxie 3
I'd like to see this review as well.
So close on the early climb! That was a good haul. Love the new angle. Thanks mystery camera person!
My buddy Dave is the man. He helps me film when he's visiting sedona
Love your channel Steve! Keep it up! Looks like a great bike
thanks Wes, I appreciate it.
Great review and love those moving follow cam shots on the climb. Pov doesn't capture the difficulty of those Sedona climbs.

Hi Steve, good review and nice riding, really enjoy these videos! I ride fs now but hardtails are so much fun and different, should I…
That follow cam is so smooth👌
Props to my buddy Dave for running behind me on those climbs.
You were flying up and down!
The third person views were a great mix in. It let's you see the bike in action.
Yeah, it's always a treat when I can talk friends into riding with me and holding the camera. I appreciate my friend Dave helping out.
Nice. Can you please review the new Scott Scale 930 2023 bike - the geometry has changed etc.

Yes
Nice job! I’m headed to Sedona this spring and Hi-line is on the list. Worried about my fitness though…
I'm not a world class athlete, but fitness definitely helps on this one.
Have you thought about doing a review on the Helm MK2? Love to hear your thoughts.
I talk about it quite a bit in few videos including my 2022 favorite gear vid.

I've tried to get a squatch for years but no luck.

great video FUN!!
That’s a good looking bike
nice bikeeeee
Do you think most all mountain or aggressive trail bikes are going to stay around that 64 - 65 spot for head angles moving forward?
The one thing I'm sure about is that the market is going to tell us we need something new in a year or two. :)
Great video and review! How’s this compare to the Honzo ESD. 🎉
They're fairly different riding. I do my bike comparisons over on Patreon. I'd be happy to help you over there. Patreon.com/hardtailparty

Tapered forks only now. I haven't seen a bike meant for straight steerers for ages. See my Maniak build for more info on the topic.
@@hardtailparty yeah so steel frames take the same forks but the steerer tube is 1.5” straight rather then tapered like on aly frames?
Every time is see those Roost bars mounted I tell myself I need to bite the bullet and order them.

I've reached out, but no word on when they're able to send one.
Hi Steve! Could you tell me what's the length of the steerer tube on your Helm fork?
I can't remember the length of this one. I typically leave them long
What did you run the fork at? Travel.

In Scotland if you wait until the trails dry out to review a bike, you won't be reviewing many of 'em. Evviva Sedona dry!
More hardtails ridden than anyone on the planet? That's a bold claim. I doubt anyone will challenge you for the title though, lol.
I think so. I've ridden over 70 different modern hardtails in the past 4 years.
