UPDATE! - At 19:15 I made an error with my numbers. Thanks @_JustMonika for spotting the issue! As they mentioned: Overclocking at 150% gives you 33.75 **not** 37.5. So I've opted to overclock 6 machines at 150%, 6 at 200% and the final machine at 66.6667% (15). This does mean this uses 54 power shards in total. If you don't mind being creative, you can always add extra machines to cut down on the need for overclocking. Ultimately you'll still only need 487.5 ingots and water, so its just a matter of getting the same materials up to any extra refineries if you decide to add more. No belt splitting, pumps or extra water extractors needed. The save file, production docs and additional blueprints are uploaded now.
Sorry for the math... You are correct. Power consumption is not exponential. There's an exponent of 1.6, but applied to the overclock value multiplying the consumption. So with an overclock set at 200% (meaning x2), the power consumption for a 30 MW refinery is : 30 * 2^1.6 = 90.943, so over 3x as much power. About your other question regarding a common target overclock for all machines, it's simpler as there are no exponents. Start with your target overclocked production rate for a machine (which is 37.5 in your case), and divide that by the normal production rate of the machine, which is 22.5. So just type "37.5/22.5" as the overclock value which = 1.666667 or 166.6667%, yielding 37.5 sheets per machine. You also inquired about the impact on overclocking a single machine more than the others in a group. It's not super significant, but can add-up. Your setup of 1*66.6667% + 6*150% + 6*200% across 3 rows will consume 2717.1 MW, while a setup with 13*166.6667% will consume 2649.39 MW, so almost 70 MW or the equivalent of running a little over two more refineries. As if this reply was not awkward enough, If you wanted to avoid overclocking, the same production would require 65 refineries instead of 39, but the power consumption would only be 1950 MW.
hey darren. quick question - i'm (slowly but surely) following along and don't know if i'm dumb or missed something, but the math in my CCF factory isn't mathing. the way i have the factory built, the copper ingot refineries are producing 487.5 ingots per row with one whole row going to one block of 34 assemblers making wire. the problem I've noticed is the wire assemblers only use 390 ingots per minute which leaves 97.5 excess with no overflow, so eventually the copper ingot refineries will eventually back up and start stuttering messing up my perfectly flat power usage. do you address this in a future episode? edit: forgot to say i love the videos and appreciate the effort and quality you put into it. thanks!
I would enjoy a world tour because the cosmetics often change off the series but not at the cost of another progressive episode those are so therapeutic
I would love a world tour! I really like that you take the time to walk from factory to factory from time to time. It really helps make your world feel more lived in without hindering the runtime too much.
I'd love a short before/after style video after every glow up, actually! Wouldn't have to be so long or have such high production value as the regular episodes, so they wouldn't necessarily be as much work and it would help with the algorithm!
Just chiming in that I'd love a factory tour episode. I've watched each episode and your streams, but you've done SO much it would be great to "take inventory of what you've done" (to borrow from CPP).
Hi Darren, I’ve been building along side you, using your blue prints. I must say the work you put in is unreal. Thank you so much for sharing your work. Please keep it up 👍
Love these satisfactory vids. I don't have this kind of time to put into the game myself, because of uni and other obligations, so it's great to just be able to watch someone else take on mega projects like this
Great video as always! Given this factory has a variable production rate and you now have surplus AI Limiters, have you considered upgrading your input manifolds into Smart manifolds? Not sure if you're familiar with them as not heard you mention them. There are a few benefits over a conventional manifold, especially for variable rate production lines: 1, Machines fill in sequence along the manifold. 1a, Prevent partial filling (below cycle requirement) of machines further along the manifold. 1b, Prevent intermittent output. 1c, Reduce power fluctuations - power will step up and down with input requirements. No spikes. 2, Choose which end of manifold gets resources first. This is useful if a production line is not fed all items from the same end, including overhead fluid manifolds. 2a, To fill from feed end of manifold: Set outputs for machines to Any. Set outputs for manifold to Overflow. 2b, To fill from furthest end from feed: Set outputs for machines to Overflow. Set outputs for manifold to Any. You can replace your normal splitters with smart splitters by holding control, as you would when replacing walls, barriers, etc.
I think you miscalculated something at 19:15. Overclocking at 150% gives you 33,75, not 37,5. Now you're only consuming 446,25 ingots. You could do 6 machines at 150% (202,5) + 6 machines at 200% (270) + 1 machine at 66,666% (15) = 487,5.
Your builds are efficient and gorgeous. You have at least one dedicated episode for each of them. Let your views grow on your old videos which are well deserved with the amount of work you've put into them. A tour of the world can always be done as a conclusion of the serie when you feel it's time. Please keep on truckin'!
I would love a cosmetics tour showing off the finished product for most of the factories! All though if you did an episode at the end I would totally understand! Love your videos Darren, thanks for the great content!
I would love a world tour! I don't have the time to watch the livestreams, either live or the vod after because they're so long. Due to this I miss a lot of the cosmetics which I find very satisfying to watch, so I'd love to see the final versions of all the factories so far in one video!
I think so yeah, will have to test as its close, but I think so. Because people struggled with placing pumps too low or too high in my coal generator video, I place the first pump at the same height as the foundation level to the extractor just for ease of building. But With the 10m height, plus 50 it might just work with 1 Mk2 pump placed correctly.
Regardless of the cosmetics, I personally enjoy watching things operate like clockwork, so a world/factory tour would be nice. Edit; sorry just had to comment, but if my math is correct, at 166.6666666666...%, each refinery would produce 37.5 units per minute, and a block of 13 of them would produce 487.5 copper sheets. Would be less shard-efficient, though (requiring 26 shard per block, 2 per machine, as opposed to the 15 used in the video), so you could also overclock 6 refineries to 200%, and another one to 183.33333333...%, requiring only 14 shards per block. Again, is my math is correct. But then you're getting into "why not just build more machines, if you wanna be efficient" territory.
Great vid - thanks WDP. Yes please. I would love to see a factory tour, especially the enhancements done during the streams, of which I am just unable to devote time to watch.
"sharding" as a verb made me doubletake cause i thought you said you were gonna shart on your refineries and i got so concerned also a separate world tour may be nice! i haven't been able to catch any streams so seeing what you've done between episodes in a dedicated video would be really cool!!
Looks out over a perfectly orderly factory measured to the millimetre, filled with incredibly neat rows of production, all tidied away neatly: "so this was pretty chaotic"
I went with a different strategy for my CS. I turned the 3 lines into 4 equal lines. Then sent that to the refineries. Leaving 4 rows of refineries, but running each at 125%, so only one power shard per and not quite so much extra power needed.
I still like the idea of the power room with individual switches for each group for troubleshooting, not like you need to turn water off from across the map with the new switches. just need the belt bypass and a MAIN power switch for the factory. so you can turn it off, and then enable all the belt bypasses. the rest of the switches can stay normal
I'd rather you move on, simply because I've been watching all of the creation videos so it would just be a revisit of things I've already seen. Love your stuff!
I would enjoy a world tour, but I think it should be a bit further along, as you only have a couple factories so far that have had massive cosmetic changes. Also, trains might be a really good way to go from place to place, cinematographically (and your train network isn't up yet).
FWIW, I don't need a world tour. But I would like some insight into your plan to unlock the rest of the milestones, where you're going in the future, etc.
And you numbering is hilarious :D You clock 11 Machines to 37.5 then 1 to 45 and 1 to 30. That is just a complicated way of clocking every machine to 37.5 .... (45 - 30 = 15 , 15/2 = 7.5 30+7.5 = 37.5)
Id rather see you do the world tour after you're done with the area and moving on to the next biome, so after you've built the transport hub for the area and finished the cosmetics for all the factories and everything is in a mostly finished state, knda like a season 1 send off and moving on to s2 in away. But yes world tour.
Some of the cuts here made this build a bit confusing, it would be helpful to have a start-to-finish reminder of the process and the actual layout at the end
I don't mind the quick 2 to 5 minutes that you reshow the world or building that you're working on in a video, but in my opinion I don't need a whole video just dedicated to a tour.
A world tour would be nice, just to see the cosmetic updates you put in place on the live streams. However, it would be great to keep that video down to something short, like 20 minutes. Also, speaking of length, I love watching your videos, but they are getting LONG. This one alone I had to break up and watch in like 3 segments. I know different people have their opinions on long vs short videos, but something closer to 45 minutes would be way better for me than these well over an hour length ones. But, keep up the awesome content! Side note, someone else said it as well... but you could set ALL the refineries to 166.6667% to get your blocks of 13 producing 37.5 per minute, for a total of 487.5 ---- (487.5 / 13) / 22.5 = 1.66666666667 == 166.66667%
ERROR: 487.5 > 480 7.5 sheets/min wasted! Call the national guard! (I know, building for Mk V. Still hurt my head when I realized it way too late in the video)
Have you ever tried opening the console and turning the fog off? "r.fog 0" It's soooo much easier to see and looks WAY better. I can't even play this game with the fog on, it's gross.
Would just prefer a shorter cosmetic tour of just one factory when you have made a new one instead of a world tour. So in short just 3-5 minutes each time you have made a cosmetic stream just showing off what you have made😊

So yes. A tour would be nice. But if not, also nice.
Excellent factory. Don't know how you do it. Can't wait for more vids. Great work Darren
I want a World Tour!! I want to see the cosmetics and stuff of all your factories ofcourse 😅
A full tour would be awesome! Especially given that I've missed some episodes here and there.

50:15 With base head lift of water extractor could you make the single Mk.2 work?
I think so yeah, will have to test as its close, but I think so. Because people struggled with placing pumps too low or too high in my coal generator video, I place the first pump at the same height as the foundation level to the extractor just for ease of building. At around 1:10:00 pretty impressive look at the logistics floor.
I would like the factory tour.
Thanks for all the videos you've done so far 🙂
Great vid - thanks WDP. Yes please. I would love to see a factory tour, especially the enhancements done during the streams, of which I am just unable to devote time to watch.
I think seeing a world tour would be amazing honestly. I'd love to see that!
I would like a world tour now and then. Thanks for all the awesome content. ❤
"sharding" as a verb made me doubletake cause i thought you said you were gonna shart on your refineries and i got so concerned

“If you have no friends…” Ouch. Less than one minute in and I feel attacked. 😂
would love to see a video on your planning process in detail
I would enjoy a tour and in the future some exploration and biome tutorial videos because not everything has to be a build video!
A full world tour would be nice every 15-20 episodes. but maybe just a quick B-Roll section quickly updating the cosmetics every few episodes
I went with a different strategy for my CS. I turned the 3 lines into 4 equal lines. Then sent that to the refineries. Leaving 4 rows of refineries, but running each at 125%, so only one power shard per and not quite so much extra power needed.
Yeah I’ll admit my sheets arent that elegant because of the power draw and clockspeed

Can’t wait for the next episode to come out ❤ 🎉
Tour would be good. Just to see everything again :)
I'd rather you move on, simply because I've been watching all of the creation videos so it would just be a revisit of things I've already seen. Love your stuff!
I cant wait for the next build video!!
this guy is sassy asf😂😂 grate content keep it up
I would enjoy a world tour, but I think it should be a bit further along, as you only have a couple factories so far that have had massive cosmetic changes. Also, trains might be a really good way to go from place to place, cinematographically (and your train network isn't up yet).
I was wondering if you could make a area with all items funneling into one area so iron coal sulfer etc all in one place?
When the videogame factory is as well organized as a real factory
The pumps bug is still happening. Heads up. You mentioned it in miute 48-49 of your stream. Just a friendly heads up to the community.
@20:45 spreading out the load is way costly in terms of shards. It's not really worth it.
Let's get this bad boy finished!! 🎉
FWIW, I don't need a world tour. But I would like some insight into your plan to unlock the rest of the milestones, where you're going in the future, etc.
Ahhhh I'm so excited, but I'll never catch up in my save I've been following along in!!!
What you wrote is just a complicated way of saying (45+30) /2=37.5
What you talking about regarding the power consumption is still linear justwith a trajectory of >1
Id rather see you do the world tour after you're done with the area and moving on to the next biome, so after you've built the transport hub for the area and finished the cosmetics for all the factories and everything is in a mostly finished state, knda like a season 1 send off and moving on to s2 in away. The monstrosity of belts at min 41😂
Yeah, gimme da tour Mack.
Some of the cuts here made this build a bit confusing, it would be helpful to have a start-to-finish reminder of the process and the actual layout at the end
YES! Make a vidéo that show EVERITHING ! please... prety please
I would really like to see some electric power up next episode
I don't mind the quick 2 to 5 minutes that you reshow the world or building that you're working on in a video, but in my opinion I don't need a whole video just dedicated to a tour.
Thanks for the video!
Progression focus please. Don't want a progression episode to be replaced with a world tour
You can have each machine set to 150% and that'll add up to 487.5. you already had 11 machines at 150% and the average of 30 + 45 is 37.5
A world tour would be nice, just to see the cosmetic updates you put in place on the live streams. However, it would be great to keep that video down to something short, like 20 minutes. Have you ever tried opening the console and turning the fog off? "r.fog 0" It's soooo much easier to see and looks WAY better. I can't even play this game with the fog on, it's gross.
I feel the opposite I’m afraid
with out power shards it is 22 refineries with the last one underclocked to 66.6667
update save file??
Would just prefer a shorter cosmetic tour of just one factory when you have made a new one instead of a world tour. So in short just 3-5 minutes each time you have made a cosmetic stream just showing off what you have made😊
Yes a World Tour 😁😁
Nice video!
Please make the tour video that would be cool
Darin excuse me for being lazy also Daron the game file and floor plans for all my builds are free
I request a Silica factory next pls
im a lazy nerd, so im not going to do the math, but i can tell you the laziest way to do it: say you have 10 machines, each set to a different overclock, you just add all the OC values, divide it by the number of machines, and voila
I'm down for a tour
How fast can you complete the game without building massive factories and just having spaghetti everywhere
I think theres a speedrun for like 2hrs or something
Playing with a focus of just completion you can finish the space elevator deliveries in less than 150 hours.
WOOOO NEW VIDEO! :D
I’d rather you move on, but it’s fine if you decide to do a tour.
Yes please
nice game
