Both phones are great. The iPhone has a big minus, all applications are paid. The Samsung has a huge minus service life of about 4 years. Then they start to break down, do not keep charging, do not charge, it is necessary to reboot, so that they start charging. Soon, after these symptoms cease to turn on. AKB nothing to do with. The most interesting is that certain models of Samsung start to break down roughly water time. There is an impression that the company Samsung specifically sets the timer or launches some virus applications to get people to buy new models. the iPhone has no such problems.
This camera (as usual on every samsung) makes skin orange and red. Yes, maybe it's faster, better in low-light and so on - but why on earth they don't even try to fix colours ? Ok, they want bright photos - but why not apply special colour filter for a portrait mode ? There's no surprise in having a face on photo - when you shoot in portrait mode...
Not surprising that there's no "decision" on which is best when clearly the Note 8 was superior. In addition the shots were poorly chosen in many cases... with the subject very close to the background.... Anyway the unbiased observer knows which phone won this test, the Note 8.
No Name Yeah the note 8 won. When the note 8 did a better job it was much better than the iPhone. Also note 8's images had better colors overall while iPhone's images were flat and plagued with an annannatural yellow tint. iPhones images also lacked clarity. And he also did not take in account low light scenarios at all.
No Name people don't understand lighting. I was also wondering why she's was orange. People love Samsungs over saturated colors. Bad for us who really use cameras can ha e to color correct this crap.
Yea lol iPhone goes for the natural look if you compare a photo to real life on the iPhone's display it looks almost the same as what you're seeing in person except in low light, only DSLRs can take care of that. The Samsungs have horrible color production and just makes photos look like a cartoon which you could fix by using manual mode, but with iPhone you can tweak the colors as well if you like the unnatural look of Samsungs.
I never intended to make a 'decision', rather point out the differences in approach and design. But if I personally had a choice? I'd go with the Note 8 for sure. I've never liked Samsung's over saturation, but I couldn't use an iPhone as a daily phone. -Adam
I like how the iphone really brings out the flaws in the girls face. I know the girl looks better on the note 8, more colorful, less flaws. But I like flaws. Or maybe it's just my screen not coping with the dynamic range of the picture. I will soon know, because I ordered a note 8 ;-).
I liked this review. The tones on the iPhone seemed more pleasing but overall I preferred the Note 8 pictures. Apple most likely will improve their software but it is quite possible that Samsung will make using the portrait mode (or what ever they call their depth of field effect) as easy as the iPhone.
Found a major problem with the Note 8, when hitting the 2x button in the camera, it is not switching cameras it is only digitally zooming in with the wide angle lens. the only time the telephoto lens is in use is during live mode and the only way to take a telephoto picture is with dual shot. I am too small of an influencer (not at all one) for this to get fixed in a timely manner please do a video on this and post it as soon as possible to expedite an update from samsung. (Block each camera individually in normal mode in both 1x and 2x and you will see this.)
Holy crap, these things are CELL phones, not 3-thousand dollar DSLR cameras! If you want to take great photos, use an expensive camera and put your PHONE in your freaking pocket!
I have a 200 camera and a 150 dollar lens that takes better portrait photos and night photos than these newbies. and it kinda fits in my jacket pocket. Panasonic GF7 and 25mm f1.7 or 45mm f1.8
Really? So you are telling me that Apple's conference where they bragged how Iphone's photos are now in many cases impossible to distinguish from DSLR never happened? These phones failing at doing something they were falsely ADVERTISED for is a valid criticism.
Macworld exactly what the article said. Aperture is the diameter and shutter is the speed. You can call it Fast Lens but calling it fast aperture is like calculating the diameter of a circle in km/h
It's a nomenclature thing. Photographers call lenses with wider apertures 'fast lenses'. Kind of like calling a driveway a place where you park, or a parkway a place where you drive ;) -Adam
Dan true but this was only particularly apparent in one of the shots because it has a warmer white balance .. Something easy to fix in a quick editor afterwards compared to the iPhone which blurs everything around the face which is just plain weird and cannot be fixed afterwards easily. Not that I'd buy either if these devices at that price point I've had enough expensive phones to realize it is just marketing.
Dan yes and I said the iPhone does more than blur the background, it destroys the top which is the same focal length as her face. Now you decide if fixing white balance or somehow restoring details that have been blurred that shouldn't be is an easier task. Watch the video he goes through this very clearly
Pretty much exactly my experience using this effect with the HTC One M8. At least with the HTC you had the option to tap the area of the image you wanted in focus (not sure if these phones do too). But sometimes the depth information is insufficient to the point you just have to take another shot and try again. I'd like to see lightfield cameras miniaturized into phones one day.
Samsung had the "telephoto lens feature 1st. In 2014, the galaxy s5 had a feature called "Selective Focus" which allows you to choose which subject that you want into the focus/blur but as usual, when CrApple does it, everyone gets amnesia
Not sure if the content author knows this but most if not all of the new Sammies have a "Pro-Mode" on their cameras where you can run the camera in a DSLR'esqe manual mode. You have control over ISO speeds, F-Stops, Shutter speed, White balance, multiple focus point arrays just like on my Canon DSLRs. I was actually kinda blown away when I discovered this mode. I actually shoot portraits solely in this mode seeing as it gives me the ultimate control to force the type of photos I'm shooting versus relying on any automatic modes. I'm not sure if iPhones can even do this. No one has made a video over the power of Sammie phones in this mode and I think you should look into it. =)
I like the Note 8 camera a bit better. Of course, it's more polished and the iPhone 7 Plus is like the first phone I've seen with portrait mode. Maybe it'll improve by miles with the iPhone 8
Why does Samsung Legit copy everything? Duel lenses, portrait mode, 3D Touch, the fingerprint sensor, selfi camera flash... the list goes on and on, remember when everything on the google play store was free, that was a valuable argument, now it is not and there is nothing the Samsung has that the iPhone does not, vice versa
one thing I love about the note8 is that lets say your in china of japan and you dont know what the signs mean. you can just take a pic and if you tap the section of the pic that contains the sign it will tell you what it means in your native language
Uhm... the Note 8 clearly showed what was wrong when you covered the lens... and it told you to move 4 ft away... I found it odd that you seem so disappointed that the note 8 "not so much" showed you any information.
Don't know why we are so obsessed with pictures these days not like we are all photographers any camera in this year no matter how crappy the phone it's gonna be a good picture .
I didn’t get anything of what you said I Think most people will look and say that’s a good picture and not look at the minuscule differences they both take great pictures
Great video! I would have liked to see a couple more actual photos and a bit less of the tech talk in the beginning, but still loved the video. And the model was gorgeous!
to be fair Samsung will continue to improve their live focus feature as well as Apple, no need to just mention that Apple will be updating it in their next phone when the phones being reviewed are the first attempt by both companies.
The Iphone is outdated shit.. overpriced, overrated. Everybody knows this, but nobody wants to admit it. There are mid range androids that take far better pictures for half the price. Here in South Africa, the Iphone 7 is still more expensive than the Galaxy S8... hahahaha what a joke. Don't know about overseas though.
Truer words has never been spoken, the midrange android takes very good videos and pictures too. THEY ARE PERFECT!! I had this Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and i took alot of nice videos of the vacation. Maybe i am stupid...but...how do i send to my friend via messaging? They received my videos and picture in a compressed state. i want them to see it in HD and maintaining the frame rates. Please teach me! Android Masters!
ben owen can't afford a worse phone that costs more? Really I don't care if I can afford it or not, it's garbage. The s8 or really any other high end android is far better
Not ignoring it here, this was only a comparison of the depth effects quality itself. You can see me rag on the color of Samsung phones here: ruclips.net/video/VcMY-sAc5PU/видео.html -Adam
Tanmai Niranjan How is it not a fair comparison? There's some differences hardware-wise sure, but the software and post-processing is where it's at. And time of release doesn't really affect that.
Hope the Note releases updates to further improve this feature - the iPhone camera App is awful having to go into settings complete leaving the camera app to change simple tasks. Things might change with iOS 11 hopefully.
First I have to say I really enjoyed your Review but I don't know why Samsung would include such a feature into the settings that you can blur coming from Loving taking pictures with many different Camera's through the Years and loving Photography to me is ridiculous. But I guess I have to wait since I only have the Note 8 for few short days this is going to be a work around for me.And to be honest I have had the chance to dig into yet.Absolutely agree I did not think that the IPhone was that bad either but to me no matter what equipment you are working with it's up to the person to try and work with what you have and the way you want it.I see you know what you are talking about and I also am not a IPhone user either my family is.But I have seen them take some gorgeous pictures with their devices as well.So I can not comment on the IPhone because it would not be my first choice. Thanks so much for the Review and you really did a pretty good job with what you were working with. Thanks for sharing appreciate it Deb.✌👍P.S. People this a young girl you are commenting on smdh.someone's Child,Daughter Chill
great review and wow great photos, I think the iOS implementation is fine, because the face is the most important subject and particularly the eyes, if the eyes are in sharp focus our brain tricks us into thinking we nailed focus. just look at a Leica 50f.95 photos right. Samsung could also use a newer file format to reduce the space usage of the multiple files they are saving. iOS 11 does separate depth info from the photo layer allowing other apps to interact with the depth info so there is your hope coming soon. One could wish the next iPhone to do a wider primary, like a 22mm and stay with the 56mm or go 70mm on the second lens, 5 axis OIS it and bigger aperture it, f2 would be nice. or just do f1.2 in the future. One curious question, can you refine the background blur on the note 8 with the stylus, that would be killer.
Does the model come with the phone? Samsung rocks man .. first we get VR and now we get a girl?!
Yeah.... It only published in 2017
pervert
I came for the girl.
I came
she has the body of a 8 year old boy

I love note 8
Hieu Tran Minh Me too!
Hieu Tran Minh is it worth it?
Best and most hi-tech techsmartphone that's ever been released. Now solidified by the Epic joke Apple is trying to play with the iPhone X
I have a note 8 and s9 + , which one I choose
What did I learn from all this? Sindel look beautiful regardless!
The galaxy note 8 has a far better camera and is still in pre-release software

Олег Казаков most people are going to edit their photos later so I don't see it as an issue
Bullshit
Олег Казаков youre delusional. Colors are far more accurate on note 8. 7 plus still uses lcd for fucks sake.
mr evergreen and the iPhone 7 is two years old 😂😂

You must review the model as well :))

How to review her xD

I like how the iphone really brings out the flaws in the girls face. I know the girl looks better on the note 8, more colorful, less flaws. But I like flaws. Or maybe it's just my screen not coping with the dynamic range of the picture. I will soon know, because I ordered a note 8 ;-).
u like unnatural blurry facial aspects? you have weird fetish tbh
I feel like this review would have been a lot more effective if there was more distance between the model and her background...
She's really pretty
We learnt you don’t know how to use portrait mode
Finally,an overview of both cameras, without any hints of being bias. Thanks for this video.
Lets not forget the fact that we are comparing a year old phone to a brand new one, a fair comparison would be between the new iphone vs Note8
iPhone8 turned out to be identical to the iPhone7, except with your emoji thing.........(sigh)....
Such an unbiased review from someone that has a channel named Macworld. Great job !!!
She's sooo cute 😩

I liked this review. The tones on the iPhone seemed more pleasing but overall I preferred the Note 8 pictures. Apple most likely will improve their software but it is quite possible that Samsung will make using the portrait mode (or what ever they call their depth of field effect) as easy as the iPhone.
Does the Samsung put a color filter on the picture? The strange glow affect was throwing me off.
You didn't notice in the first note 8 shot of the model or actual had a section to the models right that wasn't blurred by her arm
why the dislikes? this is the only unbiased apple channel.
thank you for ur video :) i pre ordered note8
i appreciate an actual professional review
What I learned from this mostly is that she probably used a spatula to put on all the makeup... and to take it off again.
Compare the note 8 camera vs iPhone x camera pls can’t decide what to get
Nice review, simple and easy to understand. Keep up the good work😁
which is good to take a high quality vedio from smartphone ? 4k@30fps or 4k@60fps?
Very nicely covered man.

I think u should review that also

Excellent review....imidielty suscribed 👍🏻
U forgot to mention portrait ip 7 plus also can do portrait with hdr and flash on ios 11 , im enjoy it so far
Faster aperture ?!!! it's wider aperture, faster shutter !

I don't know who's correct, but I'm assuming Adam cuz he used sources..
If that makes you happy.
Yes the iphone is easy to use if you want crap looking shots.
conorsulli but the note 8 is newer and makes her look orange
Dan true but this was only particularly apparent in one of the shots because it has a warmer white balance .. Glad to know the hardware is much better on the SGN8.

thanks for the upload big thumbs up from me. Can you please do Note 8 vs LG V30 please? Many Thanks

I like the Note 8 camera a bit better. Of course, it's more polished and the iPhone 7 Plus is like the first phone I've seen with portrait mode. Maybe it'll improve by miles with the iPhone 8
How is this a fair comparison from a phone that just came out this month to a phone that been out for over a year
All is fair in love and war!

My galaxy s5 portrait mode is selective focus is amazing photos one photo 20 30 MB nice details
And the mate 9?
Why does Samsung Legit copy everything? We all know that Samsung has better camera quality than apple. He just doesn't want to say it
ɪ . MARS Lol nope unless you want to make people look like Trump in photos. Or have really nasty colors.
one thing I love about the note8 is that lets say your in china of japan and you dont know what the signs mean. you can just take a pic and if you tap the section of the pic that contains the sign it will tell you what it means in your native language
I also learned that the model has a beautiful name. I have never heard a name like that til now. She would be so amazing in Brandons Photos
Note 8 or iPhone 7 still confusing to buy ... Any body suggest me
Lol. As soon as I heard him say he wants the iPhone with similar updates I knew he was an iPhone fan.
Why is a brand new phone being compared to a generation old phone?
Because it was what Apple was offering as their flagship at the time.
-Adam
Uhm... the Note 8 clearly showed what was wrong when you covered the lens... and it told you to move 4 ft away... I found it odd that you seem so disappointed that the note 8 "not so much" showed you any information.
Compare between new upcomming iphone 8 + and samsung galaxy note 8 not 7 nad 8
the instagram of that model plz plz plz
wtf we learn that both companies BOTH have a long way to go ???!! where exactly did that conclusion come from
Don't know why we are so obsessed with pictures these days not like we are all photographers any camera in this year no matter how crappy the phone it's gonna be a good picture .
Fair comparison, good information... ;)
The blury background makes the main thing stand out more so i dont have a problem with that
How about sony's blur effect
dont care about the phone, come here because the cute girls, nice work Macworld
2012: too much blur
2017:not enough blur
I didn’t get anything of what you said I Think most people will look and say that’s a good picture and not look at the minuscule differences they both take great pictures
Great video! I would have liked to see a couple more actual photos and a bit less of the tech talk in the beginning, but still loved the video. And the model was gorgeous!
"The best camera is the one you have on you"

In the future: 3 cameras, wide angle, telephoto and main ;-;
what if main = wide angle :D
idiot.. samsungs main camera is already wide angle
Are you blind? The note tells you exactly what the problem is if it cant take a live photo.. 1:56 just read the instructions from the display
Yeah and try to shot 16:9 ratio photo on Iphone...... Why you didn't mention it is not possible ?
to be fair Samsung will continue to improve their live focus feature as well as Apple, no need to just mention that Apple will be updating it in their next phone when the phones being reviewed are the first attempt by both companies.
Don't know about overseas though.
can confirm, more expensive in canada as well, at least on cellphone carriers.
Same in India too. iPhones are too expensive.!!! iPhone 8 is coming, so keep your kidneys ready to be sold.
The s8 or really any other high end android is far better
ben owen of course iPhones are good quality, it's just the software that's shit. Enjoy your glorified apps drawer
An entry level DSLR can do great bokeh. It's all in the lens. A cheap 1.8 prime lens will cost less than $200 and will do a awesome DOF portrait.
Are we just going to ignore the huge color differences in this comparison? Which one is more realistic?
Azizsomething iPhone is more realistic but thats not my style😋 #Androidgang
Not ignoring it here, this was only a comparison of the depth effects quality itself.
You can see me rag on the color of Samsung phones here: ruclips.net/video/VcMY-sAc5PU/видео.html

Bro you guys gotta stop comparing phones that are a year apart
How did you bait that model into your trap mate
Note 8 better
I don't think it's fair to compare a 2016 flagship with a 2017 flagship. Its the iPhone 8 that should be compared with the Note 8.
Tanmai Niranjan
How is it not a fair comparison? There's some differences hardware-wise sure, but the software and post-processing is where it's at. And time of release doesn't really affect that.
Hope the Note releases updates to further improve this feature - the iPhone camera App is awful having to go into settings complete leaving the camera app to change simple tasks. Things might change with iOS 11 hopefully.
Sorry but you cannot compare the note 8 with the iPhone 7 urhm 8. Is comparing a Renault Megan with a good camera and a lamborghini
Haha, thats a pretty wide comparison! The results weren't THAT far off....
-Adam
if you need a camera to tell you move away or in to take a photo . you should not opne the camera at all on your phone.
What have we learned from this video?
Do. Not. Fuckin. Use. Bokeh. Filter.
Blur background manually in post processing with any free software.

woah is that a Sony a6000/6300/6500 on your belt?!
It's the Sony a7RII - Dan
Yes but what is being used to attach it? Pretty cool.
I believe it's the spiderlight camera holster. Feel free to tweet at Adam, @AdamPMurray, and ask him about it.
Note 8 is best :)
note 8 has ois on both sensors not only on the main sensor
May you review the Asus Zenphone 4 camera please
Ocean Lopes you have a beautiful name
The note 8 was literally telling him what the problem was as he was saying it does tell you what the problem is.
Great software can never compensate for lack of hardware. However, bad software can kill good hardware!
Conclusion: The LG v30 wide angle lens is more useful and close to real needs compare to telephoto lens.
great review and wow great photos, I think the iOS implementation is fine, because the face is the most important subject and particularly the eyes, if the eyes are in sharp focus our brain tricks us into thinking we nailed focus. just look at a Leica 50f.95 photos right. One curious question, can you refine the background blur on the note 8 with the stylus, that would be killer.
Great thoughts! And to your question, no, the stylus doesn't do anything you can't do with just the slider.
-Adam
Lessons Learned: Don't shoot a gorgeous model without using at least a good DSLR .. :p
just wait for iphone 8's depth sensing cameras
"Most likely be updated soon". Suuuuuure. You wait for that.....
Note 8 os focking better !!
