I started using Chemical Guys' Hydro Spin when I got my new RPF1s a few weeks ago. The wheels still pick up a bit of brake dust, but it wipes right off. Using the Hydro Spin like a detailer, it cleans the wheels and then leaves another thin ceramic coating each time. Everyone should definitely use some kind of ceramic coating on new wheels; when applying to old wheels, they need to be absolutely showroom clean. You hit the nail on the head: prep is the most important part.
