Back in 96 or 97, I wrote to ILM asking how I could work for them. I can't find the letter, but I got a response telling me to work hard and one day it might come to fruition. I started working for them last month.

Have the energy and ego to know your the right for the job you want (calling every week for months and keeping in contact with people you have met along the way) 4. Get there and delver! 5. Understand that something's in life are more important then the job. Thank you Adam for all your constant words of encouragement and insights!
He really IS great at encouraging people. I find his videos really brighten my mood when I need it, and help me maintain good feelings when I'm feeling good.
@@everydayman2 Encouragement is not as important as self-discipline ... because "great art is 99% transpiration and 1% inspiration". You NEVER see the "frustrating and boring HOURS" where you try and fail, but those make up most of the time. There was an episode where Adam and Jamie were building a "christmas Rube-Goldberg machine" with Coke & Mentos ... and they kept a few failures in, but in a rather shortened version. Going through all of them as they were failing in sequence so it would do one full run was probably rather annoying and tedious and took wayyyyy longer than the actual 2-3 minute final run.
I love hearing that even with a flat tire and getting lost you were still early!!!!! That what it’s like when you have a real passion for what you are doing! It’s good to be obsessed for a while!! Right On Adam! 👍 A great little splotch in time you created here! 😃

Whenever I watch your videos and I hear your Westminster doorbell chime it brings a smile to my face. My grandparents had the same chime in their house when I was growing up.
I saw a video where the model makers for A New Hope thought they were working on a terrible low budget movie until they saw an early cut of the film. Always give your best effort and you'll be surprised by the results.

If it’s your life’s dream to work at ILM and after constant rejection you finally get a gig. YOU DON’T BE LATE and you do what it takes to make that happen. And you did. I got a job at an airline and crew parking is always in some weird place and the walk to the planning offices and crew room is always so convoluted, so a week before I did a dry run and timed it, then added an hour. So I feel you on that one.
As an actor I loved the Props people it was great to be given a thing and use it then give it back as a producer it was so great to have great props people that worked for just food on this crazy film that did not see the light of day. Props rock
In VFX it’s the same. I worked on three features (I mainly do TV and commercials, and yeah that’s really fast paced! Idiotic deadlines!) But those films I personally don’t really like that much either. But making a good movie is so damn hard! And takes so much time and effort. I have respect for every director. But especially for these indie directors that do 5 or 6 jobs and fund their project with their own money; or go and find investors on their own. Man!!! Incredible!
I worked at Lucas Digital from 97 to 03. Before it went corporate. The model shop was the coolest thing I have ever seen. It really was a magic factory.
Films you personally helped make don't need to be awesome, to still be awesome. Regardless of it's quality they are part of a persons life, parts of some people's childhood, and they have nostalgia for that part of their lives which that movie is a small part of. They will always remember them. Have fond memories of the Denzil Washington movie Deja Vue? No? Will I do, because of what was going on in my life at that time. I watched it a MILLION times during my working as a theater usher lunch break because it was the best movie we were showing at the time. The rest of the movies were completely uninteresting, so it was the best. Imagine having working on the film a couple who were married for 50 yrs had watched in a theater on their first date.

No.8, with a carbon steel blade. If you work near the ocean you might need the stainless steel (inox), but I've never had a carbon blade go rusty & I've camped all over Scotland.
I live near the ocean and I had a No.8 carbon steel blade - it has an amount of surface rust as much as I do my best to keep it clean. If you're near an ocean I would opt for the stainless
