One of my all time favorites when I first heard it on Spectral Mornings and then an extra special favorite when it appeared on Steve Hackett Live. The guitar work is unbelievable.
It really shines over this session.I am a great fan of Steve Hackett since a long time. The solo parts intensy and all the others members playing..I will listen to it many tim es.
finding treasures like this makes me thank God for RUclips. all for free.....awesome. I like how Steve switches to playing left handed at about the 4:45 mark....then switches right back. what a showman! :)
I'm kind of glad that Hackett gets overlooked by the people who supposedly know music. His greatness ass a musician can't be denied and he hasn't been ruined by too much main stream success either!
when randomly picked up nursery cryme one day i came home with no prior hearing of a genesis song except for that silly directionless number from 91 - i cant dance, and when the guitar starts sizzling like 4:15 in i thought to myself holy cow who is THIS?
Well this comment may not get much agreement but as far as genesis were concerned I missed the sound of Steve more than the sound of Peter when they left, superb version of Everyday too !!
I am American, but I'm not stupid. I was commenting on readers polls from past years in many music magazines. Also, I'm trying to school my fellow Yanks on the magic and music of Mr. Hackett, so chill, sir. Not all of us Americans are ignorant or narrow-minded.
the 80s ? this concert, the only one about hackett solist of that period is about is 3rd album. 1979 same period at same place steve hillage band played a similar very good concert
They said Gabriel was the "brain" of Genesis and Hackett was the "Heart". The fact is - do we realize that both brain and heart were come from the same place... our head
To paraphrase Phil Collins: "The only people that came to Genesis concerts in the 70's were young male students wearing funny hats. We wanted to make our music more accessible and appeal to the girls as well." So it was dumbed down. Q.E.D.
hey i live just in 30 km's from Montreux "so gallant" riviera... this precious kind of things are not my kind... but well there's inspired artitsts goin' there every year.... This year is a quite sad turnin' point for the festival... The man behind the selection of alternative pop/rock music has just left the direction...without substitute... so they Montreux Jazz became a little less rock n roll from this year.... it's over for the Music or the Bees and others of the same kind...
@golkaynaf I agree completely. If you listen to Genesis before and after Steve Hackett, you can easily tell the difference. The real "Genesis sound" came with and left with Hackett.
Yeah and u know .. its hard when theres a bunch of guys in a band like Genesis were ..all geniuses .. too many cooks in the kitchen kind of thing-was the syndrome they faced was all..And with Peter too .. I think when theres less guys in the band -trios- in particular theres more room for everyones ideas.. Of course Police were an exception cause Sting was so egotistical!( as talented as he always has been) nevertheless .. Steve Hackett is an unsung hero of guitar :-)
Not sure how to reply to a person directly on this new comment setup, but, ***** (oh there you go, walked into it!), the dominant voice isn't Steve's, his is a lower harmony which seems fine to me, the other high-up guy is comparitively too loud in the mix though!
It's so sad that most people consider Steve Miller a bigger influence in guitar playing than Steve Hackett. You could actually hear a gutiar in Hackett's compositions; Miller was all flashy effects, no real guitar playing.
I never really cared for the first half of the song. The vocals are lame (like almost all Steve Hackett vocals) and the melody is child-like in it's simplicity. In contrast, the second half of the song is everything I love about Steve Hackett: melodic, sustaining guitar parts played over an atmospheric keyboard background. I have the same praise and criticism of the the band Camel. They sound much better when they stop singing and just jam.
I just fell down the Steve Hackett rabbit hole. Thanks!
uno de los mejores solos de guitarra de Hackett, y uno de los más bonitos lps Spectral Monrnings
Stevie was and is one of the most underrated axemen ever...a musical genius and the unmistakable sound of Genesis just when it mattered !!
Such a great work of him.
This is one of those songs that whenever I play it someone always asks "Thats good, who is that?"
One of the best solos ever.
One of my all time favorites when I first heard it on Spectral Mornings and then an extra special favorite when it appeared on Steve Hackett Live. The guitar work is unbelievable.
Actually Steve Hackett Live was called "Time Lapse". Either way, brilliant.
Ahh, classic Steve. Nothing better.
great tune,my most favorite steve hackett song, spectral mornings is a great album,i still have it on vinyl.
This outro to Everyday is just awesome!
I bought the album when it came out and wore the dang vinyl out. Everyday is still one of my favorites, cranked to the max, of course.
I grew up with everyday and all of spectral morning... thank you Steve!

This song never ends, it's been living in my brain since it was recorded!!!Foxtronix Ink Washington USA
One of my fave Hackett masterpieces - thanks
I love Steve...some great footage of an early Wal bass too - what a tone!
Best live version of this I've heard. I love that ending much better than the segue into Jacuzzi.
We play Steve 24/7 !
First Class from Switzerland.
B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.
Ahhh!!! This is from "Spectral Mornings". A beautiful album. Sweet memories. Long live to Mr. Hackett!!!!
Imagine Genesis covering this song since Phil Collins sang Mike Rutherford's "All I Need is a Miracle."
I really like this outtro!!
finding treasures like this makes me thank God for RUclips.
all for free.....awesome.

Mirrors!
🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️
Friggin love this song. It's also epic when played on 1.25x speed. Especially from 3:03 onwards
I'm kind of glad that Hackett gets overlooked by the people who supposedly know music. His greatness ass a musician can't be denied and he hasn't been ruined by too much main stream success either!
De 1980 al 2010 ..........El maestro pervive, para bien de sus seguidores. Gracias por la musica
That was awesome.

FABULOUS!
I've been searching for this vid for years.
Thanks Nord3K95.
Gracias Nord3K95 por compartir esta excelente musica, tus 3 videos estan bien buenos, Steve Hackett es lo mejor.

Du grand Steve Hackett
Steve is one of the greatest guitarrists in the world, the otherone was Zappa
Not sure which video you were watching - he's bang on tempo-wise, and what he does fits in with the song - what else do you need from a drummer???
1979
And now buy their live-DVD...
the 80s ? this concert, the only one about hackett solist of that period is about is 3rd album. 1979

Is this on DVD or was it ever on Laserdisc? I'd love a copy.
This is dynamite!!

enfin un vrai guitariste*
@MrLegion2407 I think you aimed that at Barbaste.
look at what happened to genesis in the 80s. they stank
@golkaynaf I agree completely. If you listen to Genesis before and after Steve Hackett, you can easily tell the difference. The real "Genesis sound" came with and left with Hackett.
@tonythekingfisher and look like each other also
I wouldn't go that far. Hendrix set the bar very high for every guitarist.
Yeah and u know .. its hard when theres a bunch of guys in a band like Genesis were ..all geniuses .. too many cooks in the kitchen kind of thing-was the syndrome they faced was all..And with Peter too .. Other guy singing is Dik Cadbury
And Pete Hicks!!
love Steve to bits but gabriel WAS Genesis. excellent vid.
mensamoo Gabriel wasnt Genesis. He was just the singer, and i always enjoy more the instrumental size of genesis more than the singing and lyrics.
jrb, Steve and his wife busted up maybe you have a shot??
How can the camera man pull away from Hackett on his fastest lick? More Steve.
Rudefuck...
Well I must concede that it is one fine solo to toss off too... Hence your appearance here.
It's so sad that most people consider Steve Miller a bigger influence in guitar playing than Steve Hackett. You could actually hear a gutiar in Hackett's compositions; Miller was all flashy effects, no real guitar playing.
0:00 to 2:25: "How much longer do we have to keep doing this lame-o soft-rock shit before we get to the good part?"
2:27: "Phwew."
You're not one of those "Funny" uncles are you ? :-)
"You sucks" what english is this heheheheheh!!!!!
Hack never made a "great" album Rude one.
Great tune. What the heck is up with that drummer's meter and tempo. Both are pretty bad.
I never really cared for the first half of the song. The vocals are lame (like almost all Steve Hackett vocals) and the melody is child-like in it's simplicity.

Honestly I think Hendrix its extremely overrated
Steve Hackett would disagree.
